Job Title: Housing Independent Gender Violence Advocate (Housing IGVA)

Location: The GAIA Centre (Lambeth, London)
Salary: £29,701.36 per annum (Inclusive of London Weighting, which may not be applicable depending on your home location and any agreed permanent homeworking arrangement)
Contract type: Full time, Permanent

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. The working pattern is 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday. Occasional late early shifts: 8am-4pm or late shifts: 1pm – 6pm on a rota basis to cover duty (approximately 2-3 days a month). Flexibility on how the hours is spread across the week within these times.

The Housing Independent Gender Violence Advocate (IGVA) will be embedded within borough housing teams to facilitate the dual working that will ensure that survivors’ safety and housing needs are met. This includes:

· Close working relationships with Housing colleagues 

· Provision of specialist knowledge relating to DA for Housing Officers and Homelessness Teams to draw on 

· Specialist support for survivors at the moment of crisis 

· Provision of advocacy; supporting survivors to access safe accommodation 

· Ongoing support from the IGVA from wider DA service, including access to group clinical supervision, casework management meetings, reflective practice sessions, one-to-one supervision from service manager 

The Housing IGVA will work closely with victims of gender-based violence from the point of crisis, to provide high quality independent advocacy and support to survivors of gender-based violence at the highest risk and their children. The role will be part of increasing the ability of partner agencies to recognise, reject and respond appropriately and safely to all forms of gender-based violence (including domestic violence, sexual, financial and emotional abuse, female genital mutilation, forced marriage and honour-based violence).

The job involves working within a multi-agency framework consisting of the MARAC and local partnership protocols and procedures that prioritise the safety of survivors. The job involves informing survivors of the full range of civil, criminal, housing and practical options that might increase their safety. The post holder will empower survivors by providing them with emotional, practical and personal welfare support especially around complex housing needs.

The job involves ensuring that women are provided with a safe, supportive and welcoming environment, enabling them to access their rights, make decisions and increase their life options.

About the Service

Major Trauma Centre (MTC) project is funded by Violence Reduction Unit and is delivered under Solace CYP portfolio of diverse service provisions.

The MTC project supports young people of all genders and aged 11-25 who present at St Marys Hospital, Kings College Hospital, Royal London, and St Georges Hospital who have experienced, or are at risk of, domestic abuse, sexual violence, sexual exploitation, honour-based violence, and any other form of gender-based violence.

This role provides intensive crisis support and advocacy to young people impacted by gender-based violence who present at emergency or any other MTC departments. The MTC project is run in close partnership with MTC safeguarding teams, where individual Youth IDVA sits, and together we deliver excellent holistic support for survivors, as well as delivering training and advice to hospital stakeholders.

About the Role

The Youth Crisis IDVA delivers high‑quality, person‑centred, strength‑based and trauma‑informed advocacy and casework to survivors of abuse. Through careful identification of risk and need, the role involves developing robust safety plans and working in close partnership with statutory and local agencies to minimise the risk of further harm.

You will actively promote the service within the co‑located hospital by building strong, collaborative relationships with hospital staff, particularly safeguarding teams, nurses and clinicians, to ensure a consistent flow of appropriate referrals. You will regularly design and deliver training to hospital staff to raise awareness of domestic abuse and other forms of gender‑based violence. You will also respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and represent cases at MARAC where required.

About You

You’ll back your teams to deliver strong, personalised support while keeping a firm grip on housing management, safeguarding and service standards - making sure good practice isn’t occasional, but embedded everywhere.

This is about more than oversight. You’ll build confident, reflective teams who understand young people’s experiences and respond with clarity, consistency and belief in what’s possible. Psychologically informed, trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches won’t sit in policy - you’ll make sure they show up in how teams think, act and support every day.

You’ll also be the connector across the system. Working closely with commissioners, local authorities and partners, you’ll ensure referrals are right, pathways are clear and move-on is intentional from day one. You’ll use data, insight and feedback to challenge drift, drive improvement and keep the service evolving - because standing still isn’t an option when young people are relying on you to get this right.

About you:

• You’re an experienced manager who can lead and develop teams across multi-site, accommodation-based services, holding clear accountability for performance and standards.
• You have a strong grasp of housing management, safeguarding and health & safety, and are confident managing risk and complexity in a young people’s service.
• You bring experience of working with young people facing multiple disadvantage, and can embed trauma-informed, psychologically informed and strengths-based approaches in practice.
• You build credible, effective relationships with local authorities, commissioners and partner agencies, and represent your service with confidence and clarity.
• You use data, insight and professional judgement to challenge, improve and strengthen outcomes, leading with integrity, curiosity and resilience.

We are seeking a Crisis Café Team Coordinator to join our dynamic Journey Recovery Hub, a vital out-of-hours service supporting individuals experiencing mental health crises in Richmond and Kingston.

The Role

As the Crisis Café Team Coordinator, you will work in partnership with a second Crisis Cafe Team Coordinator to:

 •  Lead and coordinate the daily operations of two Crisis Café sites.

 •  Support a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, fostering a welcoming and collaborative environment.

 •  Deliver high-quality, person-centred care that empowers individuals to manage their mental health and avoid crises.

 •  Build strong partnerships with local services, promoting the Café and its impact.

 •  Drive service excellence, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring compliance with best practices.

This role combines casework with operational management, offering an exciting opportunity to develop your leadership skills while making a meaningful impact in the community.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who excels in leadership, organisation and communication, with the ability to manage high-intensity environments and complex situations.

Essential Skills and Experience:

 •  Proven ability to support individuals in crisis, helping them develop self-management strategies.

 •  Experience managing small teams and volunteers.

 •  Strong understanding of mental health services and the recovery approach.

 •  Excellent communication and administrative skills. 

Desirable Skills:

 •  Mental Health First Aid or Suicide Prevention training.

 •  Knowledge of national suicide prevention strategies.
