Job description

Are you passionate about making a difference for people living with a cancer diagnosis? Do you have experience of recruiting, training and managing volunteers? If so, then this could be the role for you.

Self Help UK is proud to be working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support to deliver our innovative Beyond Diagnosis Service that provides fully trained volunteers to offer one-to-one practical and emotional support to people affected by cancer and encourage the uptake of cancer self help groups and self-care support. Following the success of the project in Nottinghamshire, Macmillan Cancer Support have funded the extension of the project for approximately 18 months to April 2022 (continuation funding will be a goal of the project team).

Working closely with the Macmillan Gateway Co-ordinators and the Beyond Diagnosis Support Workers you will establish and maintain a volunteer pool able to support the services offering brief practical interventions and longer term emotional support to people living with cancer. You will also support the set-up of self-help groups where service users express an interest.

You will ensure volunteers are offered a wide ranging option of volunteer roles, contributing to the service development and improvement as well as directly supporting service users. You will be knowledgeable about how to recruit volunteers to reflect the diversity of the local populations and a broad skill base to enable a wide service offer.

The service covers Nottingham City, Broxtowe, Gedling, Rushcliffe, Mansfield, Ashfield and Newark and Sherwood. You will need to be prepared to work/travel throughout this area.

If you are interested in being part of this amazing service we want to hear from you.
