Main Role & Responsibilities 

The post holder will be an active member of our programmes team and will work across our portfolio of programmes. 

They will be responsible for regional stakeholder engagement, developing relationships and promoting Ygam training across the UK. They will recruit suitable delegates to workshops, working closely with a range of organisations and families. 

They will provide training both face to face and online and will be responsible for the delivery of our assured workshops and promoting the work of Ygam at conferences and events.

They will be able to demonstrate the impact of this work by working with organisations to collate case studies and evidence to support the programmes achievements.

Internews seeks an experienced Project Director for a four-year European Commission (EC)-funded project to advance the global response to increasing the resilience of at-risk independent media. The Project Director will lead and manage a consortium of four international NGO and academic implementing partners, overseeing and coordinating the design and implementation of a diverse portfolio of activities in multiple countries worldwide, as well as project monitoring and evaluation and a robust learning agenda. Strong skills in project financial management and communications are required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· Lead the Inception Phase of the project, working closely with consortium members, the EC, and other awardees to finalize target country selection, select research initiatives, draft the project workplan and monitoring and evaluation plan, and determine country-based activities.

· Serve as Internews’ primary point of contact with the European Commission, establishing and managing strong partnerships and dialogue with EC representatives in Brussels as well as country-level delegations.

· Effectively manage the project consortium, ensuring transparent communication processes and protocols.

· Pro-actively coordinate activity design and management with Internews Regional and Thematic Directors who manage Internews programming in key geographic regions and technical areas.

· Provide strategic, operational and representational assistance to ensure that activities are meeting their goals and targets, recommending program adjustments when necessary to keep the project on track;

· Regularly travel to London and Brussels, as well as target countries, for project and donor management purposes;

· Cultivate and strengthen relationships with local partner organizations and ensure that implementation is responsive to the needs of partners and beneficiaries;

· Track and report project progress and activities monthly against work plans;

· Oversee program monitoring and evaluation to ensure effective implementation and to measure activity impact;

· Working with the Monitoring and Evaluations specialist and team, ensure a robust learning agenda and deliver a learning symposium at project’s end with the consortium and EC.

· Maintain a thorough knowledge of key issues affecting independent media (print, broadcast, digital), and a general understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing independent media globally;

· Ensure the project is in compliance with all grant and cooperative agreement rules, requirements and regulations as well as with Internews internal policies and procedures;

· Serve as the primary budget authority over the project, responsible for ensuring all costs charged to the project are allowable, reasonable and correctly allocated;

· Accept fiduciary responsibility for all funds advanced for the purpose of the project;

· Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage and oversee all project staff.Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

· At least 10 years of experience in media and program development, including senior-level management of personnel and financial administration;

· Donor grant management experience with EU funding and wider donor experience is essential;

· Professional experience in the media sector is an asset; experience managing assistance programs supporting media and/or civil society required.

· Experience as a manager or trainer with professional capacity-building programs for journalists and media outlets an asset.

· Demonstrated knowledge and experience in some or all of the following areas:traditional, digital, and social media; media and internet law and policy; information disorders/ disinformation; and/or sustainability models for media;

· Excellent soft skills, including diplomacy, interpersonal and communication skills, with a problem-solving attitude and as a self-starter who works both independently and as a collaborative team player;

· Willingness to travel regularly to London and Brussels, as well as target country visits;

· Additional language skills are a plus;

· University degree or equivalent experience.

You must be able to inspire us and our partners and spearhead our public affairs work, including through our National Delivery Plan to unite action to end digital poverty by 2030.

We bring together charities, corporates and government to address the underlying issues stopping families gaining full access to digital services such as education, healthcare and employment. We seek social change through our National Delivery Plan, whilst also delivering solutions in local areas that help real people and provide evidence for change. 

This is an exciting, high profile and fast-paced role, joining our small team and working alongside partners, National Delivery Committee members and our wider stakeholders to effect real change for people. You will report directly to the Chief Executive, working alongside our Head of External Affairs.

A big part of our social change ambition is delivered through our public affairs work; influencing policy makers so that our ambitions are shared with government, companies and with everyone able to deliver to our vision of a world where everyone is able to connect successfully with the digital world where and when they want to.  You will also be responsible for drafting white papers, analysing trends and data, and identifying new insights.  You will support our Industry Forum, working with existing and new members to broaden the group.

The DPA aims to work through partners in delivering to our core mission and, as such, we retain only a small core team with support from our PR agency. As such, you’ll lead on delivering our policy and public affairs work, from briefing MPs to developing our policy positions.

Whilst the role is remote based, you will regularly need to attend in-person meetings and events in central London (daytime and evening), as well as undertaking travel across the UK. Given the need to attend meetings in Westminster and Whitehall, you will need to live within commuting distance of London.

Key focus areas

• Building relationships with public, private and third sector organisations, including the wider DPA community.
• Working to convene and collaborate with organisations and individuals committed to ending digital poverty.
• Work with colleagues across local, regional and national governments and across political parties to advocate for policies to promote digital inclusion.
• Undertaking research and analysis to understand digital poverty and the impact of policies to address it.
• Managing policy and research projects including the ongoing development of the national delivery plan and supporting ‘proof of concept’ projects.
• Developing commercial and research partnerships with organisations and supporting the development of the industry forum.
• Communicating the DPA vision and perspective through verbal and written communication.

We’re building a team who is open, focussed on the needs of kinship carers and who are looking to continuously and positively improve. 

As part of this new training service, you’ll receive all the training and development to support you to succeed in this role. This may include overnight stays as part of induction and training. This is a role that will need to travel and we’re happy to discuss how this could work best if you have kinship caring responsibilities. You will not be responsible for logistics.

We're the charity who look after and bring to life 2,000 miles of waterways across England and Wales, because we believe that life is better by water. Every role across the Trust plays its part in transforming our canals and rivers into spaces where local people want to spend time and feel better, bringing wellbeing benefits to millions.

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Ecologist to join our Environment and Climate action team within the S&I Directorate and is responsible for delivering the Trust’s strategy and policy on all environment and climate related sustainability issues, including environmental compliance as a minimum, improvement of our protected sites and achieving a net gain in biodiversity across our canal network.

The Ecologist will be responsible for providing professional technical input into the Trust’s strategic activities around nature recovery. This includes collecting and analysing information and data to support a long-term action plan to move more of our protected sites towards favourable condition and support projects that increase biodiversity and the abundance of protected species across the network.

The Canal & River Trust is in an ideal position, as a large landowner with blue and green corridors connecting habitats across the landscape, to carry out environmental enhancements using our local volunteer workforce to ensure that we improve habitats and support biodiversity. Planting the right trees in the right places, reconnecting old hedgerows and restoring or creating wildflower meadows and linear species-rich grasslands to provide a safe haven for wildlife and a destination for people to retreat to from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Reconnecting people with the nature on their doorstep and offering them opportunities to get involved in looking after ‘their patch’ through guided walks and talks.

Our aim is to support the work of the Trust as a whole, while conserving and enhancing the environment of the inland waterway network. Finding simple and innovative solutions/methods of work to ensure that the modern-day use of the waterways, their historical importance, the Trust’s legal obligations and strategic priorities are met through sustainable development, conservation and enhancement of the natural environment.

Location

The role will be based working from home, with the expectation to attend main regional hubs either at Milton Keynes, Birmingham, or Little Venice (Paddington), for collaborative working. This is a national role, requiring collaboration with teams in all six of the Trust’s regions. There will be an expectation that the successful candidate will be able travel to attend meetings or fieldwork throughout the regional waterway network.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

Key accountabilities:

• Provide ecological technical advice as requested. This includes input into Trust EMS standards and tools and nature recovery projects.
• Contribute to the Trust’s Nature Recovery Strategy and associated sustainability initiatives, with a view to increasing biodiversity across the Trust’s network
• Contribute to national programmes of engagement with customers, volunteers, stakeholders and the general public to promote the value of waterways and the work of the Trust to increase the Trust’s reputation and influence and secure additional resources for our work, focusing on our key sustainability priorities.
• Work with regional ecology teams to implement relevant inspection/monitoring and maintenance programmes for environmental/soft estate assets within their geographical remit, (re-)prioritising work to suit available resources and within delegated authority levels.
• Contribute to the implementation of an environmental management system (EMS; including associated processes & standards) especially with responsibility for monitoring national uptake
• Collaboration with regional teams to maintain ecology and nature recovery performance data (e.g. GIS layers, ecological baseline and species location data)
• Assist in the development of environmental training & competency
• Contribute to corporate targets on raising public awareness of and support for the Trust especially through interest in our environmental assets.
• Contribute to external engagement and fundraising nationally to secure additional resources for the Trust, especially through interest in our environmental assets

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre is seeking an EU/Western Europe Researcher to contribute to our work on advancing corporate respect for human rights and the environment by companies in and from the region, with a focus on mandatory due diligence and similar policy and legislative debates.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre works with diverse allies and partners to put human rights at the core of companies’ business models and end abuse; to support communities and workers in securing their rights and accountability for corporate abuse; and to encourage governments to create the right regulation and incentives to uphold human rights in business. We are a global organization rooted in five continental regions, comprised of a Global Team of 80. Global Team members work with a rich network of human rights advocates in ten languages, and place strong emphasis on our alliances with grassroots organisations facing often profound inequalities of power in protecting their rights. The efforts inform our ability to influence responsible business, investors, and governments for transformative change.  

Our work covers the full gamut of human rights in business, with particular focus on three thematic programmes: just energy transition and natural resources; accountable digital technologies; and workers’ rights in global supply chains. These are strengthened by three cross cutting themes: civic freedoms and human rights defenders; corporate legal accountability; and racial and gender justice.

The position

The successful candidate will work closely with the EU/Western Europe team to contribute to our work in the region, with a particular focus on debates and developments around corporate accountability regulations in Europe. The Researcher will be responsible for updating and maintaining the digital portal with relevant news items and information on policy trends related to the region, engaging with European companies to seek responses to allegations of human rights abuse, both within the region and in their value chains, as well as supporting our efforts to promote effective implementation of (mandatory) due diligence.

Responsibilities

• Media monitoring: Conduct media monitoring online in English and German to identify news reports, NGO/civil society/trade union statements and reports, and policy development relating to business and human rights in the region as well as cases of alleged human rights abuse by European companies.
• Website content maintenance: Publish relevant items in English and German on the Resource Centre website, curate information, news and resources on online portal pages relating to Mandatory Due Diligence, UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and Beyond Social Auditing.
• Company responses: Invite European companies in English and German to respond to allegations of human rights abuse and concerns raised by civil society about their conduct; maintain contact database information.
• Contribute to regional strategies and priorities: With partners and colleagues, support the EU team to implement our regional strategy, with a particular focus on the effective implementation of emerging and existing mandatory due diligence laws in Europe.
• Develop high quality written materials: (Co-)author materials for our website, including newsletters, blog posts, workshop summaries, guidance documents, briefing notes and papers.
• Outreach and representation: Help sustain and build a network of contacts in the region. Occasionally represent the Resource Centre at meetings, conferences and workshops.
• Administrative and project support: Assist as necessary with ad-hoc administrative tasks including donor reporting, organising travel and workshops.
• Team work: Participate in regularly scheduled Global Team and EU team calls, and ad-hoc calls and meetings as needed.

Essential skills and experience

• Experience: Experience working on business and human rights issues or in a related field; understanding of relevant international standards
• Research and analytical skills: Ability to search and identify relevant information online, and to synthesise and present information accurately with a high level of attention to detail
• Communication: Strong writing skills, including succinct writing for the web
• Values: Strong, demonstrated commitment to human rights. Shares values and ethos of the Resource Centre
• Team player & organisation : Able to work both independently and as part of a diverse (global) team, interacting in person and online, with good organisation and prioritisation skills as well as a proactive approach
• Languages: Fluent English and German (reading, writing, speaking)

All parts of the Church will need to raise funds to implement this net zero plan. In 2024 and 2025, the Church of England is testing and piloting a range of approaches to help churches fundraise for projects. Our feasibility study identified that statutory sources of funding, currently under-accessed will be a new area of opportunity for churches, schools and housing to access.

The Giving Directorate is leading on the strategy to coordinate and support the plans being developed by our dioceses, churches, cathedrals, schools, and departments. In addition, The Giving Directorate and NetZero Programme Team will be engaging with funders at a national level to secure investment for projects.

Job Summary:

As Net Zero Carbon Statutory Fundraising Coordinator, you will work in The Giving Directorate and operate across the whole Church with a focus on supporting parishes and dioceses to access statutory funds. You will share your knowledge and insight to support with identifying, researching and applying to funding from a range of government sources. You will develop and maintain resources, guidance and training and help share best practice across the country, as well as working with regional fundraisers. With a range of projects and fundraising initiatives, the post holder will work collaboratively within The Giving Directorate and with the Net Zero Programme Team, with diocesan colleagues and with church volunteers.

The role:

Main responsibilities

• Develop a national plan to secure statutory funding at parish and diocesan level
• Acting as a central point of coordination between the schools, housing and parish fundraising workstreams to oversee statutory funding
• Working specifically with the Regional Fundraising Officer in the north west cluster of dioceses to identify and support applications to statutory funding sources by parishes
• Working with Net Zero Implementation Manager to support statutory funding applications for clergy housing
• Building capacity in dioceses to support senior staff (incl. Bishops) to use their networks to identify relevant statutory funding opportunities (e.g. mayors, local council leadership, police and crime commissioners etc)
• Supporting dioceses to think creatively about packaging projects up a) between parishes, b) between parishes, schools and clergy housing, c) across deaneries.
• Leading consortia of dioceses to apply for funding if available and supporting applications
• Building a hub of best practice and shared learning which will include designing and delivering training to staff and volunteers at all levels
• Sharing statutory funding opportunities across the Church of England, Net Zero Carbon, Giving, and Fundraising networks and with Cathedrals

The ideal candidate:

To be successful, you will need experience of securing statutory funding for projects and of other aspects of fundraising. You will need to be a very strong self-motivator and initiator as the job requires an ability to work across a wide geographical area on a diverse range of projects. Experience managing projects would also be useful. You will be an excellent trainer and communicator.

Due to the specialist nature of the roles within The Giving Directorate, training will be provided to successful candidates to enable them to carry out their role confidently.

Qualifications

• Educated to degree level, or equivalent/relevant experience.
• Membership of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising

Experience

Essential:

• Experience in securing funding from statutory funders
• Success in securing five and six-figure gifts
• Experience of other types of grants and trust fundraising in a paid capacity
• Experience of working successfully in multi-disciplinary teams across departments in a complex organisation.
• Influencing others through communication and strong leadership skills

Desirable:

• Experience of working within the Church sector, either in a paid or voluntary capacity, ideally in relation to giving, fundraising, or church finances.
• Experience working in the environment/low-carbon/sustainability sector.

About the role 

You’ll co-develop and implement an inclusive bilingual media and communications programme across traditional, digital and social media and maximise our messaging and campaigning impact in Wales through powerful communications. 

You’ll build a sustainable team of proactive volunteers affected by Parkinson’s to energise our communications through their personal stories and participation in communications work.

What you’ll do:

• Manage, monitor and report on the bilingual web pages and Facebook page for Wales

• Maximise coverage for campaigns and fundraising communications in Wales, and produce creative content, including video

• Research and ‘sell’ stories to maximise coverage, involving people affected by Parkinson’s

• Provide Welsh language media interviews

• Conduct media and social media training for staff and volunteers and produce media briefings to support interviews

What you’ll bring:

• Experience of interviewing and case study collection within sensitive topics 

• Ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, the media and stakeholders in Wales

• Ability to work co-productively with people affected by Parkinson’s

• Ability to prioritise, work under pressure and enable others to meet challenging deadlines 

• Willingness to participate in the Media and PR out-of-hours on-call cover, and the ability to work flexibly, from home, as member of a dispersed team
