Job description

Fixed term contract for 6 months 

Part time – 25 hours pw

A mix of home or office-based working (Edinburgh)

This role is being created through the Government Kickstart scheme. To qualify for the role, you must be aged between 18-24 years old on 1st July and currently unemployed and on Universal Credit - unfortunately we are not able to open this role to 16 and 17 years olds at this time. You will be given a reference number from your DWP work coach to include in your application.

This role will be based in our Scotland Team which is responsible for working with partners to create fairer childhoods by tackling poverty and ensuring all children have the start in life.

Job Purpose:

We are looking for an individual who is interested in gaining experience in working in the charitable sector to join us for 6 months as a Project Assistant to support our work.

In this placement, you'll be based in our Scotland squad. A team that brings together colleagues from across Save the Children to work together on projects to give children the best start in life including research and campaigns, delivering early years grants to families with young children, our Families Connect programme.

It's a role created to give variety and experience of working in the charitable sector, so during your time with you us you'll be supporting the team to undertake a range of projects and tasks to help to ensure we are securing change.

Key Accountabilities:

• Carrying out research projects

• Organising meetings, taking minutes and notes

• Communicating with supporters and other staff

• Developing creative content and ideas

• Helping to monitor and evaluate the work we're doing.

Positive attitude, flexibility, and an interest in learning will be key elements in making the role work, and you'll also need a willingness to work positively with others from across the organisation.

We're looking for someone who is committed to the vision, mission, values and approach of Save the Children, and who is happy to follow our policies around safeguarding, managing risk and our code of conduct.

In return we'll provide you with training in all aspects of the role, as well as weekly programme of sessions which we'd design for you to help build your wider skills and experience.

Remote Working:

The majority of SCUK employees are currently working remotely within the UK in line with UK Government guidance. Commencing July 2021 we will transition to flexible and hybrid ways of working (i.e. a mixture of remote/home and office-based working) as social distancing restrictions ease.
