Retail volunteer roles

Helping in our shops is a great way to help CHAS and, as well as helping us raise money to fund our vital services, you'll be part of a really great team of volunteers. You'll be meeting new people, using your skills or learning something new, and making sure our customers get a great welcome and all the assistance they need.

It's always great to see our volunteers chatting to customers and telling them about CHAS - and there's so much more to this role too: you could be sorting donations, getting stock ready for the shop floor, wielding a steamer or a duster, processing Gift Aid, operating the till (we will show you how), merchandising and displaying stock - you'll never have a dull moment.

It would be ideal if you could volunteer one shift each week, which is about four hours (but we're also happy to chat about more flexible times). No special skills are needed as we’ll show you what to do and we provide all the training you’ll need. But if you have any experience or particular interest please tell us, it may come in useful. It’s really easy to get your volunteering started.

Why we want you

As a Charity Shop Volunteer, you will play an important role in helping raise vital funds to support children with life-shortening conditions and their families. There's never a dull moment in our shops and in Dunfermline you'll be working in a busy team, both in the stock room - sorting and preparing stock - and on our shop floors, providing great customer service.

• Welcoming and assisting customers and serving at them at the till
• Replenishing the stock on the shop floor
• Merchandising and displaying stock
• Accepting, sorting and preparing donations for sale
• Housekeeping on the shop floor and in the stock room

The Chester Shop is a beautiful community hub with two floors of creativity and vintage treasures!

Our Chester Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

IAPWA (International Aid for the Protection & Welfare of Animals) is a UK-registered animal welfare charity dedicated to creating a better future for animals in need. 

Since our first project based in Borneo in 2009, we have helped over 50,000 animals across the globe. We provide a lifeline to dogs and cats every year in need of veterinary care and support via humane dog and cat population projects. We also provide aid to companion animals, working donkeys, and endangered wildlife.

As a small charity, who has big plans, we can’t do it without the support of volunteers and fundraisers.

We’re looking for Community Fundraising Volunteers across the UK to help us deliver and collect Marie Curie donation tins in their local area. By using your local knowledge and connections, you’ll help raise vital funds for our nurses and hospice services - right where it matters most.

What you'd be doing:

• Distribute collection boxes in shops, cafés, pubs, gyms, and anywhere people gather.
• Swing by regularly to collect and bank the donations
• Keep tabs on each box’s location and earnings like a fundraising detective.
• Make friends with venue staff to build positive relationships.
• Spot new places where we could extend our reach and make an even bigger impact. 
• Spread the word about upcoming events and campaigns to those you meet

What happens next?

After you’ve filled in an application, we will invite you for an informal trial shift. It’s a great opportunity to visit the shop, meet some of our existing volunteers and have a go at some of the tasks that you would be supporting with as a shop volunteer. Hopefully allowing you to get a feel for the role and make sure it’s for you. We also ask for a couple of references (these don’t have to be formal workplace ones, just someone who has known you for over 6 months and isn’t related).

Trustee Tenure: 4-year term – maximum 3 terms

Regularity: 9 meetings a year + additional opportunities

Location: The Wolseley Centre, Wolseley Bridge, Stafford, ST17 0WT 

We are seeking a forward-thinking and inclusive Trustee to join the Board and work towards assuming the role of the Board’s Honorary Secretary and help lead us on our journey.

The Honorary Secretary will be able to combine personal humility with an urgency to achieve the mission of Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and the drive to invest in ongoing organisational development.  They will be able to demonstrate servant leadership and be able to unite and inspire our movement behind our collective vision. 

Embodying the culture of The Wildlife Trusts, the Honorary Secretary will work with the Chair and the Board to advance and grow the reputation of Staffordshire Wildlife Trust as an organisation of excellence that can inspire collective leadership throughout its movement and beyond, in the wider world.

This can be a demanding, yet rewarding role, suited to someone who is able to navigate through complex relationships and communicate well at all levels. Being able to motivate and bring people on a journey is a must.

This is a role that is elected to annually by the Board of trustees.

The role of our Trustees is varied and stimulating.  You will be bringing your expertise, experience and passion to help lead a dynamic, multi-functional, multi-specialist organisation.

A registered charity established in 1969 and is one of 46 county Wildlife Trusts throughout the UK and is supported by over 19,000 members.

The Trust owns or manages 45 nature reserves covering an area of over 1947 hectares. Our circa130 staff are based in six locations around the county including our Headquarters at Wolseley Bridge, Stafford, with our work divided up into five departments: Conservation Delivery, Engagement, Marketing & Activism, Fundraising, Membership & Resources, HR & Support Services and Commercial.
