About the Pen Pal Project
The Pen Pal Project empowers children aged 7–16 to become confident communicators by engaging them in creative, meaningful letter writing. UK pupils are matched with peers in Nigeria and other Sub-Saharan African countries to exchange letters over six structured sessions throughout the academic year.
The project supports pupils in:

Sessions are delivered by trained volunteers, with support from teachers and UK Reads staff.
Role Overview
As a Writing Session Coordinator, you’ll play a key role in supporting literacy, creativity, and inclusion in schools. You’ll work directly with students to help them explore personal expression, read incoming pen pal letters, and craft thoughtful responses.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about education, communication, cultural exchange, and making a difference at a grassroots level.
Responsibilities

Facilitate six themed writing sessions at a primary or secondary school in London (sessions take place during school hours)

Create an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere where all students feel safe to write and express themselves

Support pupils with varied literacy levels, including those with special educational needs (SEND), English as an additional language (EAL), or lower confidence in reading/writing

Guide pupils in reading and responding to letters received from international pen pals

Encourage vocabulary development, sentence structure, and narrative skills using the provided facilitator resources

Use creativity and cultural awareness to promote engagement and curiosity

Complete light administrative tasks (~1 hour per session), including:

Reviewing students’ letters for safeguarding

Attend a short online training session and stay in communication with the UK Reads team

Victory Afghanistan is a grassroots charity registered in Chicago as a US 501c3. We are entirely volunteer led and currently provide free, high quality online education and mentoring to more than 800 girls and young women in Afghanistan. Victory Afghanistan is a US registered 501c3 charity based in Chicago, led by Afghan women and supported by more than 100 volunteers from 27 countries. We provide free online English education, mentoring and career pathways for over 850 Afghan girls and women who are currently banned from attending school or university.
We are seeking a highly motivated, strategic and entrepreneurial Career Pathways Manager to launch and lead a team focused on developing employment and internship opportunities for our senior students.
After completing our six level English programme and four semester mentoring course, students face three possible pathways:

About us: GT Scholars is a social enterprise that tackles educational inequality by giving ambitious young people the support, skills and strategies they need to achieve their aspirations.
We believe that all young people are gifted and talented, regardless of their background. We run a wide range of programmes that help young people achieve their academic and career aspirations, particularly those from less-privileged backgrounds.
What makes us different? There are many organisations that offer programmes to improve the life chances of young people. However, our programmes use a unique 3:1 model which means that we’re able to sustainably use our profits to provide additional places on our programmes, to young people from low-income homes.

Responsibilities: Facilitators are responsible for designing creative and interactive workshops for our young people, and delivering these workshops with our young people. We run some of our workshops online and other workshops are held in London. All workshops are held during the school holidays, in the evening and on weekends.
The workshop facilitator role is flexible and as part of your role, you may be involved in:

Delivering and leading short workshops or courses, on behalf of GT Scholars (Online or offline)

Designing engaging, interactive and educational workshops and short courses for young people and ensuring that the content is targeted to suit different abilities and capabilities

Running your own bespoke workshops, eg. workshops in coding and technology

Managing short activities and Q&A sessions during our workshops

Working collaboratively with other event coordinators, volunteers, ambassadors, workshop facilitators and speakers at our events

Following the agreed timings and content for workshops and courses
Person specification:
As workshop facilitator, you will need to:

Have passion, knowledge and experience in coding, computing and technology

Availability: Workshops will run during the day on school holiday dates, on Saturdays or in the evening (5pm-8pm).
Additional information: We will need to conduct reference checks and you will need an Enhanced DBS for this role as you will be working directly with children. We can process this for you or you may submit one if this is less than 2 years old.
Rate of pay: This is a self-employed role. You must be aged 18 or above. Facilitator sessions range from 2 to 6 hours. The rate of pay will vary based on the budget of the funder.

Take Part Programmes overview
Our Take Part programme works with participants across East London and beyond, building creative skills, increasing confidence and making performance. They take place in arts venues, day centres, care homes, community centres and colleges.
As a volunteer, you might…
- Work creatively alongside students and participants and act as a ‘creative partner’ to support their ideas; Provide access support for students and participants including note-taking, accessing sensory tool, repeating instructions, etc.;
- Support the devising of performances;
- Perform alongside participants as on-stage creative support or in forum theatre workshop exercises;
- Attend theatre trips with students and participants.

Volunteer Mentors and Befrienders
To provide consistent, positive support to young people aged 8–25, helping them to build confidence, develop life skills, and engage in positive activities. As a Mentor/Befriender, you will be a trusted role model — listening without judgment, encouraging personal growth, and helping young people feel valued and connected.

We are looking to involve Family Engagement Volunteers to support the delivery of family engagement activities and workshops at the National Maritime Museum. This includes encouraging families to participate fully in sessions, supporting practitioners with set up and pack down, and delivering object handling experiences in galleries to bring the collection to life.

Family Programmes Facilitator and Engagement Programmes Coordinator
This opportunity will include:
- Supporting the delivery of family workshops, drop-in sessions, and festivals
- Helping to prepare and tidy materials and resources before and after sessions
- Engaging families in the galleries by leading or supporting object handling activities
- Offering a warm and friendly welcome to all visitors during activities through playful and child led approach, ensuring everyone feels included and valued

Time Commitment:
10.30am -4.30pm on weekends during term time and 10.30am -4.30pm Monday-Sunday during half terms and school holidays.
Induction training will take place in person at the National Maritime Museum on Thursday 9th October.
Volunteers are asked to commit to 3 months initially.
