We’re a thriving advice organisation that is part of the national Citizens Advice network. We provide information, advice and casework support to around 10,000 people a year. Our services are delivered by a team of around 40 paid staff and 60 volunteers. We have a typical annual turnover of £2 million and in addition to our core advice service, funded by Wandsworth Council, we have a range of projects funded by trusts, foundations, and our local Integrated Care System.

While we’re proud of the number of residents we support, we know that we can’t meet demand for advice and that marginalised communities don’t always come to established organisations for support. Why we need you

Supported by existing project funding and a long-term grant from the Access to Justice Foundation, we’re looking for two people to join our Senior Management Team and help lead the next phase of our innovative and award-winning development work. The Head of Core Service and Head of Community Partnerships will work together to:

• Continue developing our approach to community engagement, helping reduce access barriers for people from the most marginalised communities.
• Embed changes to our core service that make it more accessible and responsive to those communities.

Both roles also have overall responsibility for a range of funded projects and services and, as leaders and managers, responsibility for:

• Ensuring we live up to our values, standards and ambitions.
• Managing contracts and relationships with funders, partners and other stakeholders.
• Developing organisational strategy and identifying new funding and partnership opportunities.

With a focus on operational compliance and core delivery, the Head of Core Service role would suit applicants with a strong track record of managing advice services, ideally within the Citizens Advice network. We’re not necessarily looking for someone with an advice background for the Head of Community Partnerships role, but great project management, people management and relationship building skills are essential. Why Access Social Care Exists

Everyday millions of older and disabled people are denied the social care they need. Most local authorities can’t meet the growing demand for care, none are confident they can meet their legal duties in the future. This affects all of us, we will all need social care at some point.

We all have a right to hold public bodies to account. But most of us cannot afford lawyers so rely on legal aid. The 77% drop in community care legal aid cases since 2010 means we have nowhere to turn. Without access to justice, our rights do not exist. The rule of law is broken.

What we do

Access Social Care provides free legal advice and information for people with social care needs, helping achieve a better quality of life. We work with communities to increase knowledge of the law and our rights. We highlight the gap left by cuts to Legal Aid and provide advice for those who can’t afford it.

With a 98% success rate, our network of lawyers and barristers ensure fair access to justice when things go wrong. We collaborate with social services whilst ensuring legal obligations are met. We are working towards a future where social care is adequately funded, and we all get the support we need.

About the role

This is an exciting time to join our organisation. We have a new strategy and are growing quickly including across our senior leadership team. We have nearly tripled in size and income since we started operating in April 2020 and we anticipate that this strong growth will continue for the duration of our next strategic period. Access Social Care are an organisation of thirty-six people, and this is a new role in the People team coming at a period of growth to drive a thriving charity and help shape its future.

This is a fast-paced role whose emphasis is on policy / process / systems improvement as well as advising colleagues and managers across the organisation regarding all aspects of the employee lifecycle. You will work with people at all levels of the organisation supporting the People Director on strategy work streams as the organisation continues to grow and evolve.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all day-to-day HR processes within the employee lifecycle to ensure staff are supported appropriately and legislative responsibilities are fulfilled
• Work alongside the People Director to map or review processes across the employee lifecycle, identify blockers and seek to implement solutions that create efficiency and clarity 
• Advise on employee relations and discuss complex or sensitive cases with the People Director to decide the best course of action, ensuring that cases are resolved in a timely manner or be a trusted advisor to our managers with their people challenges
• Coordinate the delivery of projects, process and policy improvements as defined and prioritised within the People Plan, leading on workstreams as outlined by the People Director
• Support the People Director in sourcing training and learning solutions, and evaluating training
• Provide practical upskilling and training to managers and employees in HR practices and policy
• Coordinate recruitment efforts at Access Social Care, ensuring compliance with employment laws and providing guidance to managers. Manage the recruitment cycle and administration process from job ads to onboarding
• Support staff engagement activities across Access Social Care in conjunction with the People Director. These may include but are not limited to the following initiatives: staff survey coordination, and wellbeing events
• To be a super user and actively promote the use of the HRIS system (Bright HR) and ensure that electronic staffing records are updated and maintained accurately in accordance with GDPR
• Dealing with cyclical and ad-hoc data reporting and requests for information including data analysis
• Contribute to effective payroll administration ensuing information is shared with the Finance Officer in a timely manner, and collaborating with the People Director to address and rectify any issues and process improvements

Background:

First Step Trust (FST) is a charity that provides work experience, training and employment opportunities for people excluded from working life because of mental health problems or other disadvantages (workforce members).

Our approach is about giving workforce members the chance to overcome some of the difficulties facing them by getting them involved as colleagues. We provide ‘on the job’ training, advice and support to enable each person to improve their basic skills and knowledge of the various work undertaken. This will include supporting workforce members to gain recognised qualifications and access to work placements with our customers and other organisations.

We are in the process of developing a more formalised training and employment support programme (SMaRT Pathways) particularly, but not exclusively, in the area of the Automotive trade.  SMaRT Pathways will include the delivery of vocational training through the use of various technologies including video, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and other mediums making the learning process more accessible to those who struggle with traditional learning methods due to issues around literacy, numeracy and low levels of self-confidence/anxiety. 

Job Role:

The main objective of this post is to enable people with mental health difficulties and other disadvantages (workforce members) to engage with and access open employment.  The EDTW will achieve this by taking responsibility for proactively recruiting people to the project, overseeing their development whilst at the project, including delivery of training courses as and when required and supporting them to move on to employment or further training.

Main duties:

Networking with other services in the area to raise awareness about FST, promoting work placements and training courses as well as promoting the business services.

Recruitment and development of potential workforce members - being proactive in following up on enquires regarding work placements, interviewing potential workforce for work placements at the project.

Employment support – assist workforce looking to move on to paid employment by providing support in job search, CVs and interview preparation. Fundraising and project development:

The Development Manager (Individual Giving) will manage the strategic development of Individual Giving, identifying opportunities to drive growth in this area. The post-holder will oversee income generation from grant-making organisations and ensure timely reporting to funders.

• Drive growth of Trusts and Foundations income especially at the five- and six-figure level, with a particular view to supporting unrestricted income and major projects in the organisation’s pipeline.

This is an exciting 2 day a week role to be part of the growing Newham District Foodbank and Ascension’s Advice Service. On 9th June 2021 Ascension’s foodbank officially became part of the Trussell Trust network. We were named Newham District Foodbank, because our plan is to expand to more than one distribution centre to ensure that people across the whole of Newham are well supported. Heritage of London Trust restores the buildings and monuments that tell the story of the city and the people who live within it. Founded over 40 years ago, our mission was to rescue characterful and neglected historic sites all across the city. We focus on sites at risk in areas of least investment - in local communities that most need our help - ensuring a sustainable future for every project we work on. To date, we have restored nearly 800 sites across London.

In 2020 we launched our ground-breaking Proud Places youth programme to inspire and  engage young people with the world around them, helping them develop knowledge and skills now and for the future. We work with mainstream schools across London and are the only UK heritage organisation to specialise in working with excluded pupils, young  people at risk of gang exploitation and young refugees. To date we have worked with 6,000 young people and the programme continues to expand.

As our programme work has grown, so has our team and investment into our fundraising capability. We are now looking for a dedicated fundraiser who will help us build on our relationship based fundraising activity to grow our income. The Head of Philanthropy is a new role reporting to the Chief Executive.

We have a great pipeline of corporate partners, opportunities with charitable foundations and attractive offers for our dedicated group of high-value supporters to experience our work up close. Our Board of Trustees are committed and well connected, many of them are generous personal donors. Oak Housing is a For-Profit Registered Provider offering a range of affordable housing solutions to Local Authorities and NHS Trusts in London and the South East. Since being acquired in 2019 by a consortium of real estate professionals and the current management team and organisation has grown from 200 to almost 1000 units and have ambitious plans to triple in size over the next 3 years. Working closely with strategic partners and funds, one of their biggest growth areas recently has been in providing key-worker accommodation, specifically with the NHS.

The Finance Director will sit alongside the Operations Director and report into the CEO. The role is responsible for overseeing all financial activities for the organisation, whilst offering critical strategic direction. The internal finance function is growing, and the organisation needs more strategic involvement at the director level. As the organisation and the role develop, there is scope for this role to grow and develop further and the team reporting into this role will expand in the short to medium term.

Main responsibilities of the role:

• To support the CEO in managing the rigors from day-to-day budget setting / monitoring and cashflows to fund reporting and Board briefings.
• Carry out a review of the present situation, incorporating systems, processes, deficiencies and risk areas.
• Manage, nurture and develop a finance team, implementing sound financial controls and a can-do culture to empower decision making.
• Work with the operations director to prepare the organisation for the regulatory scrutiny that will come as the organisation passes the 1000-unit mark.
• Deliver board-level strategic insight, shaping the future of the organisation and driving growth.
• Flex up and down between a ‘doing’ role and a board-level role involved in decision making about the strategic direction of the organisation.

This role will suit someone who thrives on responsibility and wants to influence a whole organisation without being constrained by pre-existing structures. If you are someone who loves a challenge, is entrepreneurial, wants to think outside the box and be a disruptor, this could be the role for you! Oak is also open to someone stepping up from a Head Of role in a larger organisation into this as a first director position.

We are seeking a Direct Marketing Officer to join this team to manage and deliver a series of high standard direct marketing campaigns across our Regular Giving programme. This individual will be recruiting, retaining and upgrading regular donors to generate income through a variety of direct marketing methods such as direct dialogue, DRTV, digital, and direct mail. They will be encouraging regular monthly gifts or support via one of our main products such as general Regular Giving and Sponsorship, our Lottery, Value Exchange programme and other methods of committed giving as they arise.

As an Area Manager you will give leadership, direction and guidance to the staff of Medaille Trust to ensure the provision and development of a high quality service in line with the Trust’s Mission, Values and Strategy.

You will have a good understanding of the CQC framework relating to Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.  You will carry out quarterly assurance audits in all safe houses ensuring any appropriate action is taken where necessary.

You will line manage, induct, mentor, coach and support Service Managers.  Additionally, you will ensure that any complaints, grievances and disciplinaries are investigated and responded to in an effective and timely manner in line with Medaille Policies.

Although the post is home based, the post holder will be expected to travel frequently to our safe houses within the South and London areas with some overnight stays.

You must have previous experience in a relevant sector or experience of working with adults that are vulnerable.  Experience of managing staff, carrying out line management, supervision and appraisals is essential.  Additionally, you must have experience of setting up Service User Engagement groups.
