We are seeking an experienced, passionate and creative Director of Strategic Communications. As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will help provide collective leadership, advice and challenge to UKCF, and take responsibility for leading the delivery of our internal and external communication functions. You will be setting our communication direction, guiding the implementation of activity, ensuring measurable outcomes are achieved and telling the community foundation story effectively.

About the role 

This is a new role that follows a decision to focus our new organisational strategy for 2024-2027 on growing our external influence and that of our network of 47 community foundations across the UK. 

You will demonstrate generous leadership qualities and the ability to forge strong relationships and external partnerships, as we can have a far greater impact working with and through others.  You will also encourage and facilitate collaborative and integrated work with colleagues within UKCF and across the community foundation network.

Job specification  

External strategic communications 

Purpose: To enhance UKCF's communications, brand and external influence in order to engage and inspire key audiences, thereby supporting the effectiveness of our business development, grant programmes and strategic delivery. 

Key responsibilities: 

• Set out the strategic communications direction. You will play a crucial role in delivering our priorities of raising the profile of community foundations, promoting philanthropy and advocating on behalf of UK communities.

• Understand the most effective ways to influence within the context we work and resources available – being flexible and responsive to a rapidly changing environment and understanding the changing needs of our partners.

• Develop and oversee a cohesive and integrated strategic communications strategy and framework. 

• Elevate and enhance our brand, ensuring clear, consistent and impactful messaging that resonates with our diverse audiences and drives our organisational priorities. 

• Work closely with the interim Co-CEOs and Senior Management Team to develop and deliver the organisation’s external affairs strategy to extend our influence, public profile and achieve our policy and public affairs objectives. 

• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the insights and learning from our members and our national grant programmes inform and drive our external communications outputs. 

• Work with our network to support and coordinate external messaging and communications that will amplify the broader network. 

• Work with MarComms leads across the UKCF member network to ensure the delivery of consistent, strategic coverage in earned media for community foundations and the impact of their work. 

Internal strategic communications 

Key responsibilities: 

• Line management of the Communications and Marketing Manager, as well as any other staff or contractors that are recruited on a temporary or permanent basis. 

• Manage UKCF’s communication and marketing budget, continuously seeking ways to improve efficiency and impact of investment. 

• Support a culture of continuous learning across UKCF, building confidence and skills in the team to effectively communicate our messages on external channels and to our members. 

• Contribute to the successful delivery of key events including biannual conferences, webinars and in-person policy and learning events, supporting the work of our Membership Team and Senior Management Team to engage our network and funders. 

• Ensure a high-quality delivery and consistency of communications and brand, reviewing and building out our brand resources for the UKCF team. 

• Communicate impact, learnings and outcomes of external relations and owned media activity to the Senior Management Team and Board as required. 

• Utilise strategic communications expertise to support UKCF’s public policy objectives and the work of our interim Co-CEOs to raise the network’s profile with local, regional and national governments.

Member of the Senior Management Team 

Key responsibilities: 

• Work in a collegiate manner with Senior Management Team colleagues, providing expert advice, challenge and support.

• Contribute to strategic reviews, planning and development of the organisation, and take the lead on identified projects as agreed with your line manager. 

• Work closely with the Senior Management Team and Trusts Manager to develop and deliver our business development plan to resource and grow our income. 

• Providing reports and advice to the Board and Committees, as requested by the interim Co-CEOs. 

• Provide highly effective line management, including regular supervision, annual appraisals and oversight of learning, development and wellbeing. 

• Work with the interim Co-CEOs and Finance Team to set annual budgets for the directorate and ensure they are managed effectively by the team to maximise income and control costs. 

• Provide excellent levels of service to members, press and partners.

Skills and experience:

• You are a strategic thinker, able to balance a wide range of competing priorities whilst supporting and inspiring the UKCF team. 

• You are an inspiring impact leader with a track record of creating and executing effective marketing strategies that engage and resonate with external audiences. 

• You are a skilled communicator with advanced interpersonal and influencing skills, with the capability to quickly build credibility with a diverse group of senior stakeholders and present complex issues in a clear and effective manner. 

• You have a proven ability to manage risks, work under pressure, deliver effectively at pace and meet external media deadlines. 

• You have experience acting as an expert communications advisor to a variety of external stakeholders. 

• Ideally, you have experience of leading a communications or marketing function for third sector or social impact organisations, with expertise in crafting impact narratives and utilising data storytelling to bring credibility. 

• You have a keen understanding of the UK media and political landscape, with experience in landing coverage and targeted communications in a range of media.

There are 1.5 million children and young people with a disability (CYPD) in the UK.  Over three quarters cannot access regular leisure facilities which massively impacts their health and well-being. · A 12 year old sleeping through the night for the first time

· A 3 year old having his first laugh

· An 8 year old rolling over for the first time

Families have travelled from all over the country to enjoy the Pop Ups, some covering 6-hour journeys just for their afternoon of fun!

During COVID we quickly adapted our offer to include a Lending Library which continues to this day, offering nearly 300 items of specialist equipment, free of charge.

In 2023 we purchased a new site to develop into a permanent home which will open in summer 2026.  Redevelopment is underway, and so too is an £8 million campaign to support this extraordinary project.

Where you’d fit in

Gympanzees is a growing team which currently consists of 16.  The fundraising team consists of 6 people.  This role is a crucial member of the fundraising team and will be delivering on a vital income stream that is both financially and strategically significant for the capital project.

Job description

As the Senior Fundraising Manager for Trusts and Statutory, you will play a pivotal role in securing vital income from across these funding streams, whilst leading a small team to maximise their own fundraising efforts from similar sources.

This position is ideal for someone with proven experience in researching and crafting successful grant applications from both traditional grants as well as local and national statutory source.  It will especially appeal to those with capital campaign experience but is not a pre-requisite.

You'll be tasked with distilling complex information into compelling narratives that effectively convey our mission and objectives while aligning with grant requirements. Excellent copywriting skills are essential, as you'll need to create engaging and informative content that tells our story authentically and passionately.

Your approach will be highly organised and methodical to ensure accuracy and compliance with grant briefs. Reporting to the Director of Fundraising, you'll collaborate closely with a high-level fundraising team to maximize funding opportunities and drive positive impact.  Additionally, you shall line manager the Trust and Foundations Manager.

Main Responsibilities - include but are not limited to.

1. Grant identification and Research: Conduct thorough research to identify

potential grant and statutory funding opportunities from government agencies, foundations, corporations, and other sources aligned with Gympanzees' mission and projects.

2. Grant Proposal Development: Lead the development of compelling grant proposals, including conducting needs assessments, defining project objectives, outlining budgets, and articulating impact metrics.

3. Grant Application Process: Manage the end-to-end grant application process, including drafting, editing, and submitting grant proposals within deadlines, and ensuring compliance with funder requirements.

4. Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain relationships with existing and potential funders, including government agencies, philanthropic organizations, and corporate partners, to enhance funding prospects and collaboration opportunities.

5. Budgeting and Financial Management: Collaborate with the finance team to develop project budgets, monitor spending against grants, and ensure accurate financial reporting to funders.

6. Grant Compliance: Ensure compliance with grant agreements, reporting requirements, and regulatory guidelines, and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to fulfill reporting obligations.

7. Grant Performance Monitoring: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of grant-funded projects, collecting and analyzing data to assess outcomes and inform future funding strategies.

8. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with program managers, finance staff, and other team members to align funding strategies with organizational priorities and project needs.

9. Knowledge Sharing: Stay informed about trends and best practices in grant funding and statutory funding opportunities relevant to Gympanzees' mission and share insights with the team.

10.  Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and capacity-building initiatives to enhance the organization's grant-seeking efforts and overall fundraising strategy.

11.  Management of Grants and Trust Officer and grants consultants that we are working with.

Skills you’ll need

1. Proven experience in grant writing, fundraising, or development, preferably in the nonprofit sector.

2. Strong understanding of grant funding mechanisms, including government, foundation, and statutory funding programs.

3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive grant proposals and communicate complex ideas effectively.

4. Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines under pressure when needed.

5. Financial acumen, including budget development, financial reporting, and grant compliance.

6. Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a results-oriented approach to achieving funding targets.

7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and grant management software platforms.

8. Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

The role

At Cruse Bereavement Support, we are looking for a Trust and Foundations Manager to lead our vitally important trusts and foundations income stream. This is a key role for us, and we are looking for an experienced trusts and foundations fundraiser looking to take this work to the next level. You will line-manage a Trusts and Foundations Officer and be part of a wider Partnerships Team, which includes national corporate partnerships, external training and consultancy. You will lead on working with colleagues from across Cruse to develop innovative new approaches to funding asks from trusts and foundations. Your relationship fundraising approach will enhance our work with existing partners and win the support of new funders. Your collaborative approach to internal working relationships will allow you to produce high quality funding applications and reports to funders.

This role is a remote role, but you will be an active member of the Cruse family, in daily contact with many colleagues from all areas of Cruse for video calls, phone calls, email and instant messaging. The hours are 35 per week (but would consider 30+ hours over 5 days).

ROLE SUMMARY

ProVeg International is a growing network of currently eleven independent legal entities represented in twelve countries across four continents (Belgium, China, Czech Republic, Germany, Malaysia, Netherlands, Nigeria, Poland, South Africa, Spain, UK, and US). 

We are seeking an experienced and committed International Senior Legal Coordinator to oversee international legal aspects of ProVeg and coordinate our governance & legal structure, trademark portfolio, the international legal affairs and data protection topics. They will be a strategic thinker who can make the best decisions in line with our organisation’s vision, mission, and values. The goal is to guide ProVeg International as a whole towards compliance and efficiency, stability, growth and long-term success.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Governance & Legal Structure Coordination

• Support our internationalisation efforts and the set-up / registration of new country entities 

• Conclude & maintain necessary agreements (collaboration agreements, service agreements, contracts, and data protection agreements) between ProVeg International Inc. (US) and new and existing ProVeg legal entities, and liaise with external lawyers for advice

Trademark Coordination

• Manage, oversee and expand the trademark portfolio of ProVeg International Inc. 

• Coordinate infringements actions with a trademark law firm 

• Support the development of a trademark strategy

• Liaise/ manage contact with a trademark law firm 

International Legal Affairs Coordination

• Check and arrange international and national contracts and agreements for ProVeg C.I.C (UK) and ProVeg International Inc. (US) and liaise with external lawyers for advice

• Ensure organisational compliance and assess legal risks. Advise the Senior Leadership Team on mitigation

• Support ProVeg countries (provide templates for contracts etc. or general advice where possible)

Data Protection Coordination

• Act as internal data protection expert (GDPR etc.) and work with colleagues (e.g. Communications, Fundraising, Operations) on compliance and data protection implementation

• Manage, update, maintain and ensure compliance with GDPR and other international Data Protection Regulations 

• Ensure and monitor compliance with Data Protection Regulation for ProVeg’s International Departments and support countries with compliance with national Data Protection laws 

• Raise awareness of data protection compliance among staff and support data protection training

• Liaise with internal Data Protection Coordinator (Germany) and external Data Protection Officer

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in law or a related field required; graduate degree preferred

• Broad legal knowledge, particularly regarding data protection, contracts, governance, business law, and related regulations. Knowledge around employment law, Trademark, and other areas strongly preferred.

• Proven experience with a minimum of two to three years of working in a legal support role, ideally in the non-profit sector

• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

• Collaborative attitude, solution-focused, and supportive of international colleagues (particularly Country Directors, Heads and International Senior Leadership and Operations team)

• IT skills, including Google Docs, with advanced proficiency in Google Sheets

• Self-starter personality with the ability to work independently and with limited supervision

• Excellent communication skills in English; additional language skills preferred

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, international, rapidly growing nonprofit work environment

• Dedication to ProVeg’s mission & vision required; adherence to a vegan lifestyle strongly preferred

This is a new and exciting role to support the ongoing growth and development of the Men’s Sheds movement and specifically the work of the UK Men’s Sheds Association (UKMSA) made possible through long term support from a funder.

Having celebrated ten years of UKMSA in 2023, we are now looking forward to the next ten years with an ambitious target and programme to support and facilitate the growth of the Men’s Shed movement and the health and vitality of Sheds, together with campaigning for happier and healthier men with programmes to improve wellbeing, reduce loneliness, anxiety, depression and ultimately save lives.

We are a small team, and the Head of Operations will be required to deliver against their own agreed targets, as well as supervise the work of others. The Head of Operations will be a member of the organisation’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and have day to day line management responsibility for five staff or contractors.

This is a very exciting time to join our expanding Visiting Caseworker Service. We are seeking two new colleagues, who will join our current team of two caseworkers covering the UK and Ireland.  These newly created positions will be regionally based, one covering South West England & South Wales, and the other North West England & North Wales (with other travel across the UK on occasion).

Visiting Caseworkers each deal with an approximate caseload of 70-100 cases / visits per year.  Central to the role will be supporting and advocating on behalf of vulnerable applicants, or those who are living in particularly complex or challenging situations. The job will be wide-ranging and include elements of advocacy, support, income maximisation, mediation, partnership working and processing our own grants where appropriate, with the overall aim to reach long-term sustainable solutions for Anglican clergy households.

Working closely with the Visiting Caseworker Manager and the wider Charitable Services team, key responsibilities will include:

Receive referrals from applicants via the Grants & Services team, for potential casework and home visits

• Assess and prioritise urgent cases on a weekly basis.

Conduct home visit (or online meeting)

• Provide thorough assessment of current situation, taking into consideration time available and wellbeing of the applicant.
• Conduct general income maximisation check (welfare benefits, grants check etc), where necessary.
• Identify, discuss and escalate (to Designated Safeguarding Officer) any safeguarding concerns within the household.
• Gather information in order to create individualised action plans with the primary contact and other household members. 
  • Assess and prioritise urgent actions during the meeting.

Develop an action plan 

• Complete a written summary of the meeting and draft an action plan for possible areas of help and support with allocated responsibilities and agreed timelines.
• Prioritise urgent actions and agree responsibility for each action with applicant.
• Liaise with other agencies (e.g., DWP, Social Services, NHS, other charities, voluntary organisations, occupational benevolent funds, Dioceses, CofE Pensions Board etc.) where necessary.
• Refer to our own partnership support services if appropriate for help and support.
• Research and identify any local organisations for longer-term support.
• Consider and recommend most appropriate grant support through our own internal grants programme.
• Advocate on behalf of the applicant (e.g., complete internal and external applications, liaise with other external agencies, members of the Church where necessary). 
• Act as third party for complaints, mediation or appeal hearings with applicants, either in person, online, or helping prepare a written submission.
• Keep accurate and objective notes and communications within our CRM system and ensure this is kept up to date on a daily basis.

Follow-up

• Manage and update action plans, while keeping in contact with applicant on a regular basis.
• Encourage and empower applicants to complete their actions and know when to step in, as and when necessary.
• Only in exceptional circumstances, consider a further home visit, if deemed appropriate

Other reasonable duties and projects commensurate with the post

• Support and work closely with other VC colleagues sharing areas of expertise.
• In particularly busy times, act as an overflow for grant applications, to support colleagues in the Charitable Services Team.

To be considered for this position with great scope for growth and development potential, applicants should demonstrate:

• Significant experience of working within a charity / not-for-profit or grant making trust, supporting individuals and families with complex health and care needs, elderly, or vulnerable applicants, face-to-face, online and over the phone.
• Significant knowledge and experience in at least two of the following areas:
  • Welfare benefits and submitting appeals or complaints.
  • Mental health support
  • SEN education advice including SEN support, EHCPs and SENDIST tribunals.
