We drive, shop, befriend and carry out light gardening for over 200 members who live in Kew (West London) who are mostly older people  with mobility issues. We are looking for Volunteer Gardeners. We need gardeners to help those with disabilities and the elderly in maintaining their gardens. 

Benefits to volunteer:

So many people don't have family who live close to them. We connect people who want to help, with people who need help. It's a win, win. Those who volunteer feel more engaged with the people within their own local communities. And those people who ask us for help are able to get to appointments, see their friends and get out and about.

- A car would be useful but not essential, especially if you are local to Kew.

Volunteering for KNA is extremely flexible.  It is designed to fit around you and your other commitments. Gardening Volunteering usually takes place between March to September.  You can accept gardening jobs as often as suits you.  We do ask for a minimum commitment of helping for six months as it costs money to carry out DBS checks and to onboard volunteers.

Eco-Stylist

We are a go-to resource to find and shop sustainable clothing brands.

The fashion industry has a massive sustainability problem: less than 5% of clothing makers earn a living wage, 60% of clothes are made from fossil fuel based fabrics like polyester, and because of fast fashion, half of new clothes end up in a landfill in less than one year. Sustainable fashion brands are challenging these problems but “it’s hard to find sustainable brands and trust them.”

Eco-Stylist is the trusted go-to resource to find and shop sustainable clothing brands. Our Certified brands are different: 78% of our brands are making progress on living wages, with 61% already ensuring most of their clothing makers earn a living wage. 92% of our brands use a majority of more sustainable fabrics like hemp, tencel, and organic cotton. 0% of our brands are fast fashion.

We have a brand directory of 100+ certified brands, a marketplace of 1,400+ items, and a blog with shopping guides and educational content.

Sustainability Analyst

Volunteer Role Description (remote, unpaid)

The Sustainability Analyst's primary role will be to research sustainable brands weekly using a clearly defined sustainability criteria we developed. The ideal candidate loves sustainability and human rights, and is seeking work that will have a real and direct impact.

Interest in these topics is a plus: sustainable/ethical fashion, fashion, sustainable living, and sustainability research.

Looking for entrepreneurial candidates who are extremely driven and self-motivated. Internships have the potential to turn into a paid position if you're able to drive results and contribute to the growth of our startup.

About The Role

We’re WWT, the charity for wetlands and wildlife. We’re on a mission to restore wetlands because they are a wondrous solution to our world's problems. Together we will unlock their power – and help nature burst back to life. Because when wetlands flourish, all life will flourish. We lead the way, bring life and inspire connection. 

Volunteers are integral to the running of our Welney centre and without their help we wouldn’t be able to welcome our visitors to this amazing wetland. Your role will be helping to bring people of all ages and backgrounds closer to wetland wildlife, by providing assistance to visitors and encouraging them to explore the site and learn about WWT’s pioneering wetland conservation work, to save wetlands for wildlife and people. You’ll support the delivery of excellent customer service for the retail and membership team, inspiring people to support us as members of the WWT, and be a warm and welcoming face for our cause.

We are looking for volunteers who can ideally give one day a week, exact hours to be agreed.

Time commitment? We are looking for volunteers who can ideally commit to one day across the week. Shifts are negotiable, with suitable breaks. After completing training and an induction for this role, we ask volunteers to spend a minimum of 6 months volunteering with WWT Welney. 

You’ll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and other information you need. This will include risk assessments based on your role and any particular support you need. Volunteers receive access to our sites, and discounts in our shops and cafes. Some roles include a uniform or require the use of equipment or protective clothing. If you are based at a particular site or office location, you’ll need to be able to get yourself there and back. Information on locations can be found on our website. Filling Good is a community-led sustainable retail community benefit society on a mission to reduce waste, promote ethical consumption, and support local, eco-conscious producers. The Role 

We are seeking a new Director of Marketing and Communications. This director’s position is responsible for making sure that Filling Good is well known in the area, and to attract as many customers as possible to ensure the good financial health of the co-operative.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain the marketing and communication strategy in line with the existing vision / mission of Filling Good and in agreement with the other members of the Board. 

• Manage the collective review every year

• Deliver the communication and marketing plan

• Find the necessary volunteers / resources to execute the plan

• Liaise with current volunteers who are responsible for Website, Social Media and Newsletters and other advertising activities. 

About You

• You have experience in marketing, social media, communication, copywriting.

• You have experience with retail, local businesses, and not-for-profit businesses.

• You have at least 4 hours per week to dedicate to the position, including some regular board meetings.

About The Role

Volunteers are integral to the running of our Welney reserve and visitor centre and without their help we wouldn’t be able to welcome our visitors to this amazing 1300 acre wetland of international importance. At WWT Welney Wetland Centre we want to ensure that our visitors receive a warm, friendly welcome to ensure they have a memorable visit to our Visitor Centre and Reserve. In this role, you will be helping to bring people of all ages and backgrounds closer to wetland wildlife, by providing assistance for visitors to explore the reserve and learn about WWT’s pioneering wetland conservation work, to save wetlands for wildlife and people. In this role you will support the delivery of a range of interactive visitor engagement activities, including guided walks, and other seasonal activities, drawing people in by telling engaging stories about our work and inspiring people to support us as members of the WWT.

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be answering visitor questions, helping them to navigate the reserve, and identifying basic wildlife. You'll get regular briefings to keep you up to date with what's going on at the centre, and we can offer coaching to help you feel more confident talking to our visitors and leading guided activities.

Branch Trustees

RSPCA Stort Valley Branch – multiple opportunities

Help us make the world a better place for animals

RSPCA Branches rescue, rehabilitate and rehome those animals most at risk through clinics, animal centres, boarding and fostering facilities; offer advice and education on animal welfare; and support with microchipping, neutering and subsidised animal treatments for animals owned by people in financial difficulty.

Each RSPCA branch (of which there are approx. 150) is a separately registered charity, operating at a local level across England and Wales. Branches did 78% of the rehoming activity across the RSPCA network in 2020 and took more than 31,000 animals into their care. There are also over 300 RSPCA charity shops, all of which are run by RSPCA branches. The RSPCA has been at the forefront of animal welfare since 1824 when we were founded in a London coffee shop, and we’re proud to be the oldest animal welfare charity around.

What does RSPCA Stort Valley Branch do?

We cover an area either side of the M11 from Saffron Walden in the north to Harlow in the south and fundraise and offer welfare services within this area.

The animal welfare services that we offer are centred around our busy clinic in Harlow and include:

•  Subsidised routine veterinary treatment and microchipping for owned animals - in 2024, we made over 2,200 consultations at our Harlow clinic and administered more than 500 vaccinations and 250 microchips.
•  Advice and education
• Community outreach

We operate a charity shop in Bishops Stortford town centre, selling clothes, books, games and other items to help with our fundraising.

In addition to our Harlow clinic, we work closely with RSPCA animal centres and inspectors to support their work and to look after and re-home animals rescued in our branch area. We also support neighbouring branches by seeing some owned animals from their nearby towns at our clinic. We are working to improve our fostering network to help with rehoming, and are keen to step up our fundraising work to enable us to provide additional welfare support to the community.

What do RSPCA branch trustees do?

RSPCA branch trustees are volunteers who shape the work that the branch does, and are collectively responsible for governing and managing the affairs of the branch. “Trustees have overall control of a charity and are responsible for making sure it’s doing what it was set up to do.” “Trustees are the people who lead the charity and decide how it is run.” “They may be known by other titles, such as: directors, board members, governors, committee members” - Charity Commission. At Stort Valley, we have a lovely team of staff and volunteers with experienced, capable people managing our shop and clinic day-to-day. Trustees will set the strategy, make the big decisions and lead on new initiatives.

Stort Valley Branch is presently in the process of converting to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (‘CIO’), the modern legal form for many charities - loosely equivalent to a Limited Company. We expect to complete the change in the second half of this year (2025).

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for applications from people from all social and cultural backgrounds, who are passionate about improving animal welfare. It doesn’t matter whether you are an experienced trustee or not, as trustee training and induction will be provided. If you can bring relevant skills and experience from other aspects of your life, that’s great, and we’re pretty sure you’ll learn some new ones here!

Right now, we would like to recruit several additional Trustees. We’ll define and re-balance the roles of all the Trustees once our new Trustees have settled in, so we’re not necessarily looking for you to select a specific role at this stage. The opportunities could include taking the lead on fundraising, overseeing our clinic or shop, increasing our local outreach and education activities, enhancing our online presence and recognition, and more. Ideally, for some of the roles, you’ll be relatively local to the branch area; others can be done remotely.

We hold monthly Trustees’ meetings, which last 1.5~2 hours. We ask for Trustees to join as many of these meetings as possible. You’ll also need to allow time to prepare for meetings - creating or reading through any relevant documents in advance – and of course, for the specific activities you take on. We normally meet in the evening, online (Google Meet), at times chosen to suit Trustees’ availability.

Trustees are elected or re-elected for a 12-month term at the branch’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). Between AGMs, branches have the ability to co-opt an additional three trustees who serve until the next AGM and can then be elected.

About The Role

At Washington you will be involved first hand are in assisting the collection team in  maintaining and developing exhibits within the site at Washington to enhance the visitor experience.

This involves helping the Collection team to care for our large collection of rare and endangered species of waterfowl from around the world as well as wetland mammals.

Conducting public talks with our otters and Flamingos is also an important part of the role. Helping the team to inspire our visitors by the work we do and also showing them how they can get involved.

Why volunteer with us? We have one of the largest waterfowl collections in the North East, with over 40 species, 15 of which are of Conservation Concern, including the current flock of 56 breeding Chilean Flamingos and a pair of Asian Short-clawed Otters. Previous volunteers have gone on to work in animal conservation work around the world. 

We are currently looking for volunteers that can help us on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays or Sundays. We ask that you can commit a minimum of 6 months to get the most from your role. You must be over 18 to apply for this role.

BRANCH TRUSTEE - RETAIL MANAGEMENT (RSPCA OXFORDSHIRE)

We are looking for a volunteer who have expertise in retail management. You will gain new skills and experience as a Branch Trustee whilst enabling us to help more animals.

Overview of the Branch Trustee – Retail Management.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person, who could devote their time to oversee charity shop agreements with another branch and to begin the process of implementing charity shops in our area. 

Alongside passing on your expertise, this opportunity will give you the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental, alongside fellow trustees, in the running of the Branch and setting out both the short and long term aims.

As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 1-2 hours. However, the commitment may vary depending on whether the trustee takes on additional duties.

About the RSPCA

Through our numerous campaigns, we seek to raise standards of care, and awareness of issues, affecting animals today. We rely heavily on our volunteers who play a significant role in enabling us to carry out this important animal welfare work every day!

The RSPCA Oxfordshire Branch

The Oxfordshire Branch was founded in 1875, it is one of the branches of RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by our Operations Manager and a team of volunteers who have the support of the National Society of RSPCA.

The main activity of our branch is on rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals rescued by the Inspectors from cruelty and neglect, we also to help members of the public with financial assistance for their animals for neutering, microchipping and unexpected veterinary fees.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee – Retail and Income Generation

· Assist the Branch Manager in maximising the profitability of the Branch’s three charity shops. 

· Work with the Branch Manager to explore any potential for expanding the retail operation by researching the potential for further charity shops.

· Support the Branch Manager in establishing the Branch’s e-commerce operation via online sales platforms such as eBay.

· Work with other trustees, the Branch health and safety provider and the Branch Manager to ensure the charity shops meet health and safety standards. 

· Explore other ways to generate income for the Branch and work closely with the Branch Manager to put these ideas into action.

Core Branch Trustee responsibilities

· Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.

· Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.

· Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).

· In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Partnership Manager write, adopt, monitor, and review a development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.

· Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting and regional conference.

· Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support regional initiatives.

· Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.

· In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch if applicable.

Internationally renowned Eyam Museum in the Peak District, Derbyshire, is looking for an experienced finance professional to take on the voluntary role of Treasurer. The successful candidate will join our friendly Board of Trustees and will have oversight of the financial operations and decisions of the organisation - which includes a museum shop - to ensure that funds are managed responsibly and in accordance with priorities.

Museum finances are administered by a qualified part-time Finance Officer who oversees day-to-day payments and receipts, payroll and pension, bank reconciliations and monthly financial reports, and who will support the Treasurer in their role. We are looking for someone who has the experience to advise the other trustees on financial and treasury matters, oversee the setting of an annual budget (c.£150.000) and monitor performance against that budget, playing an active part in the decision making of the trustee body. The Treasurer will also facilitate the annual auditing of accounts.

While emphasising the skills required for these responsibilities, we particularly encourage applications from candidates from diverse backgrounds who are likely to be underrepresented on our Board. We are ideally looking for someone living within easily commutable distance to Eyam.

Eyam Museum’s primary purpose is to tell the story of Eyam Plague (1665 – 66). It is a highly successful organisation - well run, financially secure with substantial reserves and widely respected within the sector. Visitor numbers have quickly returned to pre-COVID levels (at c. 36,000 in 2024) and the organisation is a vibrant and energising place for visitors, staff and Trustees alike. The Museum is a charity and a limited company with a retail arm which is a wholly owned subsidiary company.

The Museum is currently undertaking an ambitious Options Project looking at how best to develop our audiences, collections, retail operation and the building in which they are housed. We are working with professional consultants and received a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant to undertake this work. The project will complete in summer 2025. This is an exciting time to join and to help shape the Museum’s development over the next few years.

This is a voluntary role for a candidate who is willing to participate actively, using their skills and experience to help drive the museum’s vision through exceptional governance.

Further Information

We hold monthly management committee meetings which include both Trustees and key museum employees (the Museum Manager, Curator and Retail Manager). Trustee-only meetings, including the AGM, are usually appended to these Meetings. Trustees are expected to attend a proportion of these meetings in person, joining via Zoom for the remainder. The meetings are held in the evening. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. Appointments are initially for three years, renewable.

We drive, shop, provide companionship and carry out light gardening for over 200 members who live in Kew (West London) to help them live as independently as possible. We are looking for Volunteer Companions. The aim of KNA's Companionship programme is to provide social, emotional and practical support, and relief from isolation for local Kew people who are mostly older people with mobility issues. The objective is to offer support on an on-going basis through friendship.

As long as we can find a willing volunteer, we can help our members.

We'd love you to consider volunteering here at Hay Castle, a centre for Arts, Culture, Heritage and Learning.  Awarded "Wales Building of the Year 2024" by RSAW, we opened our doors to the public for the first time in its 900 year history in 2022, following an extensive "just in time" renovation of this Grade 1 listed building and scheduled ancient monument.  As a volunteer you will be the life blood of the castle, with various opportunities such as greeting our visitors, introducing them to its history and stories, leading guided tours, engaging them with our prestigious exhibitions, helping them choose their presents and souvenirs to buy and take home.  Perhaps you'd prefer to help us keep our garden borders and yew trees looking glorious. 

As a Castle Volunteer, we can offer you discount on goods bought in our shop, occasional discounts on event tickets, and a volunteer thank you get-together, 2 or 3 times a year. You will also receive a volunteer pass to the castle, so that you and friends/family can enjoy time here together when you're not on duty.
