We’re looking for a committed and empathetic Student Advisor (Student Finance) to join the Advice Service at the University of Manchester Students’ Union (UMSU). This is a full-time, fixed-term role for 12 months, with the possibility of extension subject to funding and business needs.

As a Student Advisor (Student Finance), you'll provide free, independent and confidential advice to students at the University of Manchester. You’ll be a generalist Student Advisor while also while also taking the lead on student finance and money advice. You'll become our team's specialist in this area, helping students understand their funding options, access financial support and navigate financial challenges. As a generalist advisor you’ll be providing advice and guidance across all areas of the Advice Service, including academic issues and regulations, University disciplinary procedures, housing and wider student life matters.

With the rising cost of living and increasing complexity of student funding, you’ll play a key role in helping students access the financial support they need and empowering them to make informed decisions. We’re looking for someone who can support students professionally, sensitively and with empathy, ensuring they feel heard, informed and confident about their next steps.

You’ll enjoy this role if you have an interest in money advice and financial wellbeing, alongside a curiosity about the law and an enthusiasm for understanding regulations, policies and procedures. Excellent communication skills are essential, together with the ability to respond compassionately to students experiencing distress or crisis while providing practical advice and support.

Alongside one to one advice, the Advice Service delivers supported self-help resources, preventative campaigns and outreach activities to help students access information before problems escalate. If you enjoy engaging with people, you’ll have opportunities to contribute to website and social media content, deliver presentations and workshops, attend promotional events and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across the University community.

You’ll be part of a small, supportive and dedicated team, working in a busy and varied environment where student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We’ll support your development through ongoing training and continuing professional development, helping you build expertise across all areas of our advice service while developing specialist knowledge in student finance. Experience of providing student finance or money advice is desirable. However, we also welcome applications from candidates with experience in advice, welfare, support work, professional student services or other settings who can demonstrate transferable skills, a willingness to learn and a genuine passion for supporting students.

Job Description

Do you have experience in designing, reviewing or improving administrative or operational processes, with a focus on the user experience above all? Do you lead change and service improvement initiatives while working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders? If the answer is yes, then we want to hear from you.

We are looking for a Business Analyst to lead and deliver a transformation roadmap that redesigns and improves student services, using service design and business analysis approaches to create efficient, student-centred processes across the Union.

The role is full time (with part time possibility) and a fixed term contract for 12 months. This role is based at our Bloomsbury campus with flexibility to work from home on a 40/60 basis (40% working from the office).
 

Duties and Responsibilities

You will lead the delivery of a transformation roadmap to redesign and improve student services across the Union, focusing on creating efficient, user-centred processes that enhance the experience of student leaders and staff. This will involve analysing current ways of working, identifying opportunities for improvement, and balancing quick wins with longer-term change aligned to the academic cycle.

You will work closely with students, staff and stakeholders across the Union to co-design services and ensure they meet real user needs. Using data, insight and feedback, you will prioritise improvements, build engagement, and ensure that systems and tools—working in partnership with IT and Digital—support the delivery of better services.

Alongside delivery, you will help embed a consistent approach to service design and process management, producing clear documentation and building organisational capability for continuous improvement. You will also ensure that all changes align with governance, risk and compliance requirements, supporting sustainable and effective service delivery.

Our ideal candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a good understanding of service design or business analysis approaches, and the ability to communicate complex processes clearly to diverse audiences.

You’ll also support student voice, deliver induction activities, and ensure student feedback is heard and acted on. If you’re interested in running outreach activities, delivering talks to students and supporting Student Reps this is the role for you.
 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Outreach & Engagement

· Lead on the planning and delivery of outreach activity (such as stalls and interactive activities) to promote the Students’ Union (specifically the Academic Experience Team’s) services, helping students understand what support is available to them.

· Build relationships with external charities and organisations, coordinating their involvement in on-campus outreach activity to raise awareness of support services relevant to students.

· Develop creative, inclusive approaches to increase student awareness and participation, particularly among students who may not usually engage.

· Collaborate with the Representation Coordinator, Community Events Team, and School & Student Community Organisers (SCOs) to design and deliver outreach that raises awareness of key academic and student issues, including initiatives for awareness weeks and heritage months.

· Monitor impact by monitoring attendance and engagement, in addition to gathering feedback to understand what worked well and continuously improve future outreach.
 

Induction & Student Transition

· Support the Academic Experience Manager in booking and coordinating SU induction talks for the start of each Semester.

· Deliver engaging induction talks and sessions to help new students understand how they can get involved and shape their academic experience.

· Ensure students are aware of key opportunities such as becoming a Student Rep and how to share feedback with the SU.

· Collect feedback on induction sessions and use this to improve content and delivery for future students.
 

Student Representation Support

· Support the delivery of Student Representative recruitment & training, helping reps understand their role and how to represent student views effectively.

· Work with Reps throughout the year to keep them engaged, confident, and active in their role, by hosting drop-in sessions and forums.

· Support the administration of Student Representation, helping students share feedback and ensuring it is used to inform improvements.

· Support the planning, organisation and delivery of School Student Forums and attendance at Programme Academic Experience Groups (PAEGs).

· Support the Academic Experience Team with day-to-day administration, including monitoring shared inboxes, responding to student queries, and helping ensure timely communication with Student Representatives.

Communicating Student Voice

· Work collaboratively with the Marketing Team and Representation Coordinator to develop and deliver regular reporting on student voice activity, including showcasing the impact of work led by Student Reps and SCOs

· Work in partnership with the Advice and Insight teams to support the effective use of student feedback mechanisms, including:

o Coordinating the collation and organisation of student submissions

o Assisting in the analysis and interpretation of feedback data

o Ensuring timely and meaningful reporting back to students and stakeholders on key themes and outcomes

Supporting The Wider SU Team

· Harness and maintain good working relationships with all colleagues across the SU, working as collaboratively as possible on all projects where appropriate.

· Support with the delivery of larger events like Freshers Week, Refreshers Week, the Students’ Union Awards and Elections (this is not an exhaustive list).

General Duties

· Set high standards of integrity, punctuality, accuracy, politeness, and professionalism. By personal example promote a positive image of the SU and ensure staff provide an excellent customer service.

· Ensure the effective and efficient day to day running of the department.

· Contribute towards the delivery of the SU’s strategic plan.

· Attend conferences, training events and meetings as necessary.

· Build and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders and providers

· Undertake individual projects as required for the benefit of Herts students.

· Have a flexible approach to work and undertake any other reasonable duties that may be required, including general administration.

· Keep up to date with relevant local, national, international & sector developments, changes in legislation and good practice.

· Respect the democratic structure of the SU at all times.

Market Research Analyst (Insights Coordinator) 

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about using data and insights to empower our student leaders and staff to make change and ensuring we are the experts about our students. You’ll join our Insights Team to expand our sector-leading insights function and collaborate with other Guild departments and University stakeholders to deliver strategic and student-facing projects, and build data curiosity across the organisation.

An opportunity has arisen for an energetic and skilled individual to lead the Mind in Bexley Carers Service.  The Carers Service supports those looking after, or affected by, an adult relative or friend’s mental health, alcohol, or substance use challenges.

RCJ Advice is an independent charity, based originally out of the Royal Courts of Justice in central London, providing a number of local and national services.

In collaboration with national Citizens Advice, we run a national service which provides advice and support to staff and volunteers from local Citizens Advice charities across England & Wales on immigration legal matters, enabling them to better support their clients. By supporting the local charities, we can help build their confidence and knowledge to deal with queries themselves in the future.

We deliver this service through a national telephone helpline, and this role will provide advice and guidance focused on Level 1 and 2 queries.

At RCJ Advice, the Immigration team consists of two paralegals and one solicitor. Both paralegals work on the helpline most days. Whilst the service is primarily there to deal with enquiries through a helpline, there will be an opportunity to support casework. You will also have the opportunity to build good working relationships with staff and volunteers across our other services.

You will come with a level of understanding of immigration law/rules, and will have been giving immigration advice for at least six months, whether solely or as part of giving general advice. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to conduct research and communicate complex information in a way that people will understand.

This is a hybrid role, working in our office within the Royal Courts of Justice in London at least 2 days per week with the option of homeworking up to 3 days per week.

We are looking for new Programme Leads to deliver our programmes so that all children and young people, regardless of their needs, feel they belong and can prosper.

As a Programme Lead, you will become the consistent, trusted adult in a young person's life, providing trauma-informed mentoring and wellbeing support to care-experienced young people aged 16–25. Through compassionate, strengths based relationships, you will help young people build resilience, develop life skills, improve emotional wellbeing and successfully navigate the journey into independent adulthood.

Working flexibly, primarily across Salford, you will meet young people where they feel most comfortable, whether in community venues, local neighbourhoods or other safe spaces and tailor support around their individual aspirations and goals. You will also work closely with partner agencies and statutory services to create a coordinated network of support that helps every young person feel safe, connected and empowered to thrive.

Job Purpose

Carers Manchester Contact Point (CMCP) is the first point of contact for unpaid carers seeking information, advice and support to help them with their caring role.

The service delivers a free confidential helpline for carers Monday to Friday. Helpline opening times are subject to change, based on the needs and requirements of carers using the service.

The aim of this role is to be part of a team providing a comprehensive information, advice and support to carers in Manchester. The post holder will work alongside colleagues from Gaddum and potentially other organisations to be the first contact in a busy service providing advice via a telephone advice line and managing referrals made through digital sources. They will provide information and advice and refer more complex issues to the appropriate agencies delivering the Manchester Carers Pathway.

Key responsibilities 

Advice giving

· Answering telephone calls into a central helpline offering support and guidance to unpaid carers in Manchester.

· Provide relevant and meaningful support and information to unpaid carers utilising internal and external resources.

· Inform carers about carers assessments and refer where necessary.

· Inform carers about emergency grants available and refer where necessary.

· Ensure all advice and support given is delivered in a timely manner to suit the needs of carers calling the helpline whilst balancing waiting callers.

Follow-up support

· Refer unpaid carers to local services to access local and culturally appropriate support in their area.

· Refer carers to Adult Social Care for Carers Assessments to discuss and improve their caring situation.

· Signpost carers to relevant services in Manchester suited to their individual need.

· Complete relevant grant applications for carers using the service where needed.

· Use Carers Manchester Contact Point and other reliable and accurate resources to find, interpret and communicate relevant information to carers

· Research and explore options and implications so that carers can make informed decisions.

· Write and maintain detailed case records for all casework completed.

· Collect required data for statistical monitoring and report preparation.

· Complete the required training to comply with quality assurance processes.

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.

The post-holder will be required to undertake other tasks as reasonably directed by the CMCP Coordinator, which will usually be commensurate with the skills and experience of the post-holder.

All staff are expected to work within all of Gaddum’s policies and procedures as they relate to delivery of the CMCP.

The role is pivotal in building organisational capability, enhancing individual and team performance, and supporting a culture of continuous learning and development. This includes responsibility for mandatory training compliance for both staff and volunteers, as well as leading apprenticeship programmes, work experience and student placement opportunities to support workforce development and future talent pipelines.

Learning & Development Strategy

• Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive annual Training and Development Plan aligned to organisational priorities, including mandatory training, apprenticeships, work experience and student placements
• Work with line managers to ensure consistency of IPR reviews for staff.  Provide training on the process and offer improvements.
• Audit of staff’s yearly IPR’s to monitor and record training needs. Identify gaps in existing learning content.
• Contribute to workforce development strategies that support organisational effectiveness and future capability needs
• Support a culture of continuous professional development across the organisation

Training Design & Delivery

• Design, deliver and/or commission high-quality, engaging learning programmes and interventions, including statutory and mandatory training
• Build a sweet of training courses for hospice staff including; line management, managing absence, managing change, managing non-performance, managing stress in the workplace, IPR’s, project management, recruitment and selection, managing volunteers, working with volunteers, compassionate communication and crucial conversations.
• Research new online training opportunities for mandatory training as required throughout all departments within the Hospice. 
• Accountable for end-to-end ownership for each course from launch, booking and through to practical support for educators, advice to delegates and evaluation.
• Accountable for booking and managing all delegates, venues, course material and evaluation.
• Evaluate and prioritise course content to ensure courses are refreshed, relevant and competitive.
• Complete annual review of delivered courses and programmes.
• Ensure all mandatory training is up to date, relevant, and delivered in line with regulatory and organisational requirements
• Evaluate the effectiveness of both mandatory and developmental training and continuously improve learning provision
• Work alongside the Head of Volunteering to help create and deliver relevant training course for volunteers.

• Mandatory Training & Compliance

• Maintain accurate training records and ensure compliance reporting is up to date
• Work with managers to ensure staff complete required mandatory training within agreed timeframes
• Working with Head of Volunteering to ensure all CPD & Mandatory training is up to date for volunteers.
• Be accountable for KPI’s ensuring accurate and timely data entry, data collection and reporting.
• Leadership of resource to managers and staff for advice/information on all aspects of education and training.

• Apprenticeships, Work Experience & Student Placements

• Lead the development, coordination and evaluation of apprenticeship programmes across the organisation
• Build and maintain partnerships with education providers, colleges and universities.
• Manage HMRC Levy Scheme.
• Oversee the recruitment, onboarding and support of apprentices, work experience and students on placement
• Ensure high-quality learning experiences and appropriate supervision arrangements

• Stakeholder Engagement

• Partner with managers and teams to identify learning and development needs, including mandatory training.
• Work with managers in planning apprenticeships, work experience and placements
• Provide expert advice and guidance on appropriate learning solutions
• Build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels

• Induction & Onboarding

• Work with the People and Development Manager to review, develop and enhance induction programmes for new starters, ensuring mandatory training is embedded
• Ensure a consistent, engaging and effective onboarding experience, keeping up to date with best practice, researching and drafting proposals to improve our process
• Knowledge of statutory and mandatory training requirements (ideally within health, care or regulated environments)
• Understanding of apprenticeship frameworks and/or work experience and student placement requirements
• Understanding of organisational development and performance improvement approaches
• Excellent facilitation and presentation skills
• Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
• Ability to analyse learning needs, monitor compliance, training trackers and evaluate training effectiveness
• Strong organisational and project management skills
