Web developers and designers wanted to support East London Waterworks Park in continuing to improve its website and digital infrastructure.

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces. 

We are looking for web developers and designers to contribute to our community-led working group who are working on coordinating content and infrastructure for the East London Waterworks Park website. 

There is opportunity to lead on projects across web development and UX and web design, and facilitate the direction of the working group.

The Comms Circle currently meets fortnightly on a Tuesday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely.

You should be experienced in HTML, PHP, CSS, Javascript and SQL, and or UX and web design. You should be comfortable with community-led processes. Our roles are quite flexible. We hope that people bring radical imagination, peace with nature, and courageous inclusiveness to the role. 

Contribute to the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds. Your skills in web design and development will be crucial in creating a visually engaging and user-friendly online presence that effectively communicates the park's biodiversity and mission. By designing engaging websites and interactive platforms, you'll help us connect with our community, inspire action, and secure the necessary support for the park's future.

The Silk Heritage Trust celebrates and shares the extraordinary story of Macclesfield; a story of creativity, industry, and enterprise. After a period of focused work, we are in healthy and optimistic position, with a clear strategic plan and the resources we need to achieve an ambitious step-change in the coming years. Support from the National Heritage Memorial Fund, Arts Council England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund mean that we’re able to look forward to a transformed future at the heart not only of the North West’s industrial heritage, but also the wider international patrimony of textile design and manufacture.

With a new lease in place on Paradise Mill, and a significant opportunity to restore and commercialise the looms and pattern books we hold, we are preparing to make a once-in-a-generation investment in the future. Our goal is to create a unique, integrated visitor experience, with the breathtakingly atmospheric Paradise Mill complementing the wider story of Macclesfield’s heritage and people, as told in the neighbouring Silk Museum. The Old Sunday School building, one of our town’s landmark buildings, will be sensitively transformed so that it will continue to be a popular and much-loved community hub.

We are looking for an energetic individual who can act as a figurehead for the Trust, help strengthen and develop our networks, develop our landmark buildings and gain support for our vision. At Replacing Animal Research, we’ve been working for over half a century to replace the use of animals in research. We have significantly contributed to the development, and uptake, of non-animal methods by:

• Empowering scientists with our educational opportunities.
• Funding exciting research aimed at replacing animals and improving human healthcare.
• Collaborating with policymakers to ensure more rigorous policy on the use of animals in science. 

Our mission is to ensure scientists use non-animal approaches in biomedical research and testing. It’s a better future for animals and humans. For us to achieve this, we need to ensure that Replacing Animal Research is a resilient organisation with sufficient skills, support, and income to continue its work in the long term. Our trustees are critical to the future of the organisation. 

We are currently seeking more trustees to strengthen our board by providing strategic and governance support. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with an interest or experience in scientific and medical research and testing and the development of non-animal methods. We’d also be interested in hearing from anyone passionate about eliminating animal use in research. We encourage applications from all people regardless of age, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, belief or race. We are looking for trustees who can demonstrate:

A commitment to our purpose and aims and the strategic vision to support the Replacing Animal Research's future development.

• A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to support the charity. (Please see below for more details on the time commitment).
• An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
• Sound, independent judgement and the ability to challenge constructively.
• The ability to work effectively as a member of a team and make decisions for the good of the charity.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

A full induction is provided for new trustees as well as ongoing CPD opportunities and support. The role of trustee requires an annual time commitment of around 8 working days which works out around 5 hours per month. This includes:

• Preparation for and attendance at 6 general board meetings, which are held remotely.
• Preparation for and attendance at sub-committee meetings as appropriate.
• Between meetings, trustees may be asked to contribute to discussions via email or ad hoc telephone conferences on specific issues.
• Trustees may be asked to sit on or contribute to other project groups or activities from time to time.
• Attendance at 1 or 2 in-person board away days.

Over past decades, enormous advances have been made in our understanding of MS. Research has got us to a critical point, and we can see a future where nobody needs to worry about their MS getting worse. Our Stop MS Appeal needs to raise £100 million to find treatments for everyone with MS.

Our Stop MS Champions help us reach more people and inspire them to get involved in our Stop MS Appeal by encouraging raising funds and awareness by delivering presentations, attending events and identifying new audiences to speak to. They inspire people to engage with and influence fundraisers and groups, enthuse people and make sure our community’s voice is heard.

As our Lead Stop MS Champion, you’ll motivate your team of Stop MS Champions to help reach more people and inspire them to get involved in our Stop MS Appeal.

By using your ability to motivate and support, you will oversee and lead a team of 5-10 Stop MS Champion volunteers, encouraging them to engage the people they know to raise funds and awareness, and provide reliable information and guidance.

You’ll also network to engage with and influence fundraisers and community groups, enthusing people by delivering presentations at events and finding new audiences to speak to. In this role, as well as developing your leadership, networking, influencing, communication, organisation and presentation skills, you’ll have a chance to be part of something amazing – you could help us stop MS.

Africa Access Water

We equip rural communities in Zambia and Africa with solar-powered water infrastructure and systems for productive use, food security, and socio-economic development.

Africa Access Water is committed to addressing several critical social and environmental challenges that disproportionately affect rural communities across Zambia and Africa using one model. These challenges include:

1. Water Scarcity: Millions of people in rural Africa, particularly in Zambia, face limited access to clean, reliable water sources. This scarcity forces communities to rely on unsafe water, leading to waterborne diseases, poor health outcomes, and time-consuming water collection that limits productivity and social development. Africa Access Water aims to provide sustainable, solar-powered water infrastructure that ensures year-round access to clean drinking water, improving health and overall well-being.

2. Food Insecurity: Agricultural productivity in rural areas is often hampered by unreliable access to water, droughts and dependent on rainfed, leading to poor crop yields and seasonal food shortages. With our solar-powered irrigation systems, we aim to enable year-round farming, increasing food security and supporting local economies. By providing communities with access to water for agricultural use, we help increase crop yields, promote sustainable farming practices, and ensure a consistent food supply for families.

3. Rural Poverty: Rural communities in Zambia and other parts of Africa face high levels of poverty of upto 82%, often exacerbated by the lack of infrastructure and economic opportunities. By providing solar-powered water solutions, we empower communities to develop productive livelihoods, enhance economic activity through agricultural systems, and create income-generating opportunities. Our goal is to foster socio-economic development by providing water for both domestic use and agricultural production, which boosts local economies and supports small-scale farmers.

4. Environmental Sustainability: Traditional water extraction methods, such as manual pumping or reliance on non-renewable energy sources, can contribute to environmental degradation and resource depletion. Africa Access Water addresses this by using solar-powered water systems, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting the transition to clean, renewable energy. Additionally, we promote sustainable agricultural practices that improve land productivity while protecting the environment.

5. Gender Inequality and Social Inclusion: In many rural communities, women and girls are responsible for fetching water, often spending several hours each day on this task. This reduces their opportunities for education, economic participation, and personal development. By providing communities with accessible water infrastructure, Africa Access Water aims to reduce the time spent on water collection, allowing women and girls more time for education, work, and community leadership. Our projects also prioritize community involvement, ensuring that marginalized groups, including women and youth, have a voice in decision-making processes.

Through these efforts, Africa Access Water is addressing the social and environmental challenges of water scarcity, food insecurity, rural poverty, environmental degradation, and gender inequality, creating sustainable solutions that foster community development and resilience.

Fundraising Officers (AfAW HQ Africa and US fundraising Office)

1. Fundraising Strategy: implement a diversified fundraising strategy, including grants, donor networks, and innovative financing models to support the organization’s mission.

2. Online and Recurring Donors: Build a strong network of individual donors through the online donation platform, encouraging one-time and recurring contributions with targeted campaigns and impactful storytelling.

3. Foundation Partnerships: Identify and secure grants from foundations for unrestricted funding and program-specific needs, fostering long-term relationships with key donors.

4. Sustainability Funding: Develop strategies to secure funds for sustainability initiatives like a commercial farm and a water drilling rig through social enterprises, partnerships, and investments.

Branding and Messaging: Collaborate with the team to ensure alignment between fundraising messages and the organization’s bold branding and transformative goals.

This role ensures Africa Access Water’s financial sustainability and growth by leveraging online platforms, donor networks, and partnerships to transform lives through sustainable solar powered water infrastructure and solutions for productive use, food security, increased income and improved livelihoods.
