Who are TFSW?
We help refugees and people seeking asylum who have suffered trauma, oppression and war, and those working with them. As the first and originally only agency providing refugee trauma specialist support in the southwest, we provide vital free, long-term 1-1 and group psychotherapy and counselling to people fleeing torture, oppression and war.
About the Role
Our Trustees work collaboratively to meet our legal responsibilities to govern the charity, including:
- Defining TFSW’s long-term direction and furthering its charitable purposes.
- Ensuring it is effectively and properly run with legal and other obligations met and being accountable to those with an interest or ‘stake’ in the charity.
We use board meetings to agree and oversee our strategic priorities, monitor risks, ensure sound financial management and confirm the charity’s assets are being used appropriately. All TFSW Trustees additionally bring individual skills and experience that are much valued. We are currently seeking Trustees with skills and experience of:
- Marketing and Communications. There are no specific additional responsibilities for this Trustee, however, having recently updated our brand, website and guidelines the Board would be enriched by a Trustee who can advise and guide on how we can utilise this refresh in the growth of the charity.
- The legal context for asylum and refugee resettlement. We have benefited from a Trustee with this knowledge who has stepped down at our AGM after many years on the Board. While there are no additional responsibilities, the awareness of the legal context for our work is a great help and we would be enriched by a Trustee who brings this awareness to our Board.
This is a voluntary role, but we can pay Trustees’ expenses. The time commitment for all Trustees is approximately 22 hours per year (under 2 hours per month).
We have a committed and supportive board with a diverse skillset and are currently recruiting in areas we could enhance our overall skillset. We are striving to be more representative of the diversity of the communities we serve and we warmly and actively welcome those with lived experience of the asylum or refugee resettlement process to apply. To be more representative of gender and ethnic diversity more broadly, we would also welcome applicants from the Global Majority and male applicants.

Military Wives Choirs connect over 1700 women in the military community and create a support network through the power of singing. Our Data and Technology Trustee will contribute strategic advice on how MWC manage their technology and data to be compliant, minimise risks to the organisation and to keep up to date with, and take advantage of, developments in a way that recognises the budget and the scale of the organisation. Working closely with the Choir Support Team, they will support the long-term sustainability of the charity by providing strategic direction for their data and technology assets and initiatives. The Trustee will have experience in a broad range of technology leadership roles, understanding of IT procurement, an ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels and able to advise the Board on how it could make ethical use of AI with appropriate safeguards. About It’s Time:
It’s Time is a charity created by and for young adults who have experienced the death of a parent. Founded by people who know this grief first-hand, the charity ensures no one aged 18–35 has to navigate such loss alone. Through peer-led support, events, free group therapy, and tailored resources, It’s Time offers connection and understanding during an often isolating time. The charity also partners with universities, workplaces, and families to promote better bereavement support - recognising that grief doesn’t follow a timeline, and the help offered to young adults shouldn’t either.
The charity was founded in 2021 and we now run local peer support groups throughout England, have a year long waiting list for our group therapy and supports around 500 people in the online community. We recognise that as we grow our needs and those of our community are changing and are looking for someone skilled in charity growth to steer us into the next phase of our development.
About the Role

Asylum Welcome is an extraordinary local charity supporting asylum seekers, refugees and vulnerable migrants who seek refuge in and around Oxford.
With a strong reputation both locally and nationally, our team of approximately 30 staff and 200 volunteers offer a range of services from food and clothes to advice, visits, legal support, education and assistance. Asylum Welcome aims to transform the lives of those it serves.

c) Scrutinise Asylum Welcome’s budgets, plans and financial reports, ensuring they meet the organisation’s needs and the relevant regulatory requirements.
d) Ensure Asylum Welcome is complying with its governing documents and relevant laws, as well as updating and reviewing its own policies and procedures.
e) Bring a particular skill, experience or insight that helps develop Asylum Welcome as an organisation.

As a Trustee you share, with all the Trustees, equal responsibility for the charity.
Person Specification
Prospective Trustees will:
a) Be committed to the rights and welfare of refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants and to Asylum Welcome’s vision, mission and values and determined to use your skills and experience to make a difference for others.
b) Have experience of developing good relationships with people and organisations, stakeholders and supporters.
c) Be able to work in a team, recognising and respecting the difference between the Trustees’ role and that of staff or volunteers.
d) Be able to contribute to and ensure Asylum Welcome’s future plans and strategic development and/or financial stability.
The prospective Treasurer will have:
a) A recognised accounting qualification.
b) Significant experience of financial management, budgeting and reporting.
c) An understanding of the financial, strategic and operational risks and their mitigation in a charity context.
d) Be familiar with charity accounting and statutory reporting requirements.
As Chair of the Finance Committee, the Treasurer leads on all financial matters. The Finance Committee is responsible for making budget recommendations and financial reports for the Board and for agreeing and overseeing financial and related policies. They liaise closely with the Finance Manager to provide quarterly financial reports, the annual budget and annual
statutory accounts to the Board. Input is also required during the annual audit process.
The Board
Asylum Welcome is governed by a Board of between 5 and 13 (currently 11) Trustees, who are elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September. Trustees normally serve for at least 3 years. Additional Trustees may be co-opted between AGMs.
Trustees are not paid but travel expenses may be claimed for attending meetings.
The Board meets (via Zoom and in person) 5 - 6 times a year, usually early evening on a Thursday. Regular dates are agreed a year in advance.
Individual Trustees also join or lead the Board’s Committees. There are currently a Finance Committee (which meets 5 times a year, a week or so ahead of Board meetings) and a People and Governance Committee. We also have occasional task groups for short-term items.
We support asylum seekers, refugees and vulnerable migrants to settle and thrive in the U.K.

About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit an Activities Organiser for the South East Kent Group. As an Activities Organiser, you will be to bringing together our MS community through engaging and accessible activities. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
We are a very friendly group of 7 volunteers covering a large are of the South East area of Kent from Dover to Hythe and Ashford. We currently hold a monthly support group meet-up in Ashford 10am - Noon 2nd Thursday in Month, but we would like to expand these in the future in other areas. We have a support team who do visits and information signposting at the William Harvey Hospital.
We are very keen to expand our activities and would welcome new volunteers with ideas and support in helping us offer more for people affected by MS in our area.
The hours will be suited to compliment your own personal commitments. If possible 2 to 4 hrs a week would be great if we can develop our services. We have the monthly support meet up which is currently 2 hrs a month but we would like to offer this more often if possible in 2019 to every other week or a new meeting in a different area. We have group volunteer meetings every 4 months and there are volunteer events held twice a year for all volunteers by MS National Centre so all volunteers in the Kent area can meet up and share their activities and good ideas together.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. About the role
As a Regional Fundraising Volunteer, you will support Rise Scotland in generating income, raising awareness, and building community engagement through local fundraising initiatives. The role will involve event planning and support, and public engagement to help achieve regional fundraising goals.

Your Role as a Mentor

Throughout the UK, we provide essential services and support for individuals impacted by MS. We connect people to resources that foster a sense of belonging, community, and shared experiences.
We are pleased to announce that we have secured funding from Wales and West Utilities for a 'test and learn' Community Connections project, which will operate until March 2026 and cover Wales and the South West of England.
The goals of Community Connections are:
- To link individuals with, and affected by, MS throughout Wales and the South West of England (including Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Bristol, Gloucestershire, and Wiltshire) to services, activities, and resources that promote living well with MS.
- To establish connections with local service providers that enable people with, and affected by, MS to access support and activities in their communities, while enhancing community connections.
- To offer information and guidance on various topics, including financial advice, cost of living information, energy efficiency tips, carbon monoxide awareness, and the Priority Service Register.
As part of this initiative, we are seeking a Community Connections Volunteer to assist in directing people affected by MS to information about relevant local and national services. This could involve helping someone access information on benefits or supporting them with grant applications. This role will be conducted from home, providing assistance over the phone and via email.
Here’s a summary of what the role entails:
- Guiding individuals to sources of support, such as our Living Well services, Helpline, health and social services, MS professionals, and local group activities.
- Referring any complex support needs to our Community Connections project team or Helpline.
- Occasionally assisting individuals who need help with grant applications and gathering necessary paperwork.
- Communicating relevant information to our Community Connections Project Administrator to maintain and update our service signposting lists.
- Staying in contact with referrals to ensure they are progressing with the support provided.
- Listening to and gathering feedback on the service as individuals conclude their involvement with the Community Connections project.
We will provide you with the necessary training and support to develop the skills required for this role, including an induction covering all outlined areas. Please note the role requires a DBS Check.

We need great organisers who can keep our members and volunteers connected to our local group’s range of activities.
What you will be doing
- Help organise and promote the groups range of activities
- Keep up to date about the news and developments of Parkinson's UK more widely, sharing these with the group
- Encourage and inspire others to engage with activities
- Attend regular committee meetings and take and circulate notes
- Work with local Parkinson's UK staff to ensure the group runs within Parkinson's UK governance procedures
The skills you need
- Strong administrative, organisational, communication and IT skills to help keep the group running smoothly
- Good collaboration skills - support the team to be inclusive, open to a diversity of views
- Positive attitude; making things happen in your local community and bringing people together to work as a team
- Supportive; able to listen to the needs of people with Parkinson's, and reflect these to the group to shape the support provided
- Honest; you'll know when to ask for help, or when tasks might be seen as less important, and able to share that with Parkinson's UK and your group
