RSBC are looking for volunteers to get involved with our range of online clubs for children and young people with visual impairments. 

Role: Online Activities Volunteer

Commitment: Currently, sessions are run both during the week (mostly in the afternoon) and at weekends (usually on a Saturday). Activity volunteering is a flexible commitment, and you will be able to sign up for the session you like and when you have time. It really is up to you and your availability.

What will I be doing?

Our amazing Activity Volunteers play a key role in supporting blind children and young people to take part in a variety of activities. These range from sports, creative (singing, performing, art), audiobook club and day trips. Our activities are designed for blind young people to meet new friends, gain confidence, learn new skills/sports, and become more independent. The skills you have developed in your career and personal life will be invaluable to our young people. 

Key Tasks and Main Duties 

Online activities: 

• support the session timetable 

• facilitate the communication and social interaction between participants 

• encourage members of the group to participate and share their opinions 

Who are you?

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of skills and experiences. You don’t need to have volunteered or worked before as full training will be provided. What’s important to us is that you are a team player, open to learning and willing to follow RSBC’s policies and can be an excellent ambassador for RSBC. We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of sight problems.

Safeguarding:

Due to the nature of the role, before you can begin volunteering with RSBC there are some required safeguarding checks which will need to be completed.

All RSBC volunteers undergo an Enhanced DBS check (paid for by RSBC) and must provide two references.

All volunteers will also be booked onto safeguarding training.

About Croydon Community Energy (CCE)

Croydon Community Energy is the only community energy organisation in Croydon, combining grassroots climate action with real-world renewable power projects. Since launching in 2021, we’ve built a passionate volunteer-led team and are in the process of our first major initiative: installing rooftop solar across three community sites. Job Purpose

As the Finance Director, you will be responsible for monitoring the finances of our community energy group (which is a Community Benefit Society regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority), providing accurate financial forecasting, and ensuring the financial stability and sustainability of our community energy projects. This voluntary position is ideal for someone with financial qualifications and a passion for renewable energy who wants to make a meaningful impact on the transition to clean energy within our community. This role has the aim to establish a sub-group of volunteers to help manage the work, and you will be supported by the Board of Directors and CEO.

Responsibilities

Financial Management

• Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and systems to ensure effective management of the organisation's financial resources.

• Monitor the financial health of the community energy group, regularly reviewing income, expenses, and cash flow.

• Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including budgets, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

• Conduct periodic financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing recommendations for improvement.

• Collaborate with the executive team to develop long-term financial strategies and goals aligned with the organisation's mission.

Financial Planning and Forecasting

• Prepare annual budgets and financial forecasts, working closely with project teams and stakeholders to gather relevant data and assumptions.

• Monitor budgetary performance throughout the year, identifying variances and implementing corrective measures as necessary.

• Provide financial projections and scenarios to support decision-making processes related to project funding and resource allocation.

• Conduct sensitivity analyses to assess the financial impact of potential changes in project plans, market conditions, or funding sources.

Grant Management and Reporting

• Research and identify potential grant opportunities to support community energy projects.

• Prepare grant applications, ensuring compliance with funding guidelines and requirements, with the support of the Board and other volunteers.

• Manage the financial aspects of grants, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance with grant terms.

• Generate accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, highlighting project progress and financial performance.

Financial Governance and Compliance

• Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, accounting standards, and reporting requirements.

• Coordinate with external auditors or accountants to facilitate annual audits or reviews.

• Maintain appropriate internal controls and procedures to safeguard the organisation's financial assets.

• Provide guidance and support to the board of directors and executive team on financial matters.

Terms and Conditions

We’re looking for a new honorary treasurer who will work closely with the chair of the business management and finance committee to advise the trustee board on all aspects of business management and finance matters related to the work of Girlguiding Scotland.

The honorary treasurer will contribute to the delivery of Girlguiding Scotland’s strategy as a member of Girlguiding Scotland’s trustee board and the business management and finance committee.

We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced and creative tutor with excellent interpersonal, numeracy and digital skills; excellent written English and efficient organisational skills to teach one of our outreach classes in South Kensington, London every Saturday from 16:00-18:00.

The course is aimed at learners designed for English speakers of other languages at Entry 3/ Level 1 who want to further develop their English language skills along with their employment skills. Learners can choose to specialise in retail, care or other vocational area. Skills/ experience

• CELTA or similar qualification is desirable

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit a Fundraising Volunteer for the Lambeth and Southwark Group. As our Fundraising Volunteer you’ll support your Group Coordinator to organise local fundraising activities and events throughout the year.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication and team working skills.Most importantly you’ll inspire your local community to raise funds that help make sure no one has to face MS alone.

Time Commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.

You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the area the group to carry out this role.

Who they are

Citizens Advice Richmond is a local charity that has helped the people of Richmond since 1940. They offer generalist advice on any issue and specialist debt advice. Citizens Advice Richmond is a member of the national Citizens Advice service, a network of around 300 local advice centres.

The role: What will you do?

● Complete an induction for your role.

● Maintain an awareness of how the local Citizens Advice is operating.

● Plan the board meetings, including the dates and the agenda, with the Company/Charity Secretary and the Chief Officer.

● Read papers for board meetings and attend six board meetings per year.

● Facilitate the trustee board meetings by leading the meeting, ensuring that agenda items are discussed, enabling all members to contribute their views and take part, and seeking clarification where necessary.

● Ensure that decisions and actions taken at board meetings are carried out.

● Ensure that the board decisions are made within the remit of the Citizens Advice membership agreement, governing documents, and policies.

● Monitor attendance and commitment of all trustees.

● Provide or arrange training or support for trustees if needed.

● With other trustees and the Chief Officer, recruit a trustee board with a diverse range of skills, experience, and knowledge, with an aim to promote trusteeship to underrepresented groups that represent the community.

● Ensure that all trustees receive an induction and the training needed for them to fulfil their role.

● Be proactive in recruiting successors to key positions such as Chair, Treasurer, etc.

● Arrange or provide support and supervision for the Chief Officer, including an annual appraisal.

● Together with the Treasurer, ensure proper management and control of local Citizens Advice finances.

● Together with the Chief Officer, represent the local Citizens Advice in relationships with funders or potential funders, at local events, and in the community.

● Work together with all trustees to ensure that the board can:

♦ Set policy and strategy direction, set targets, and evaluate the performance of Citizens Advice Richmond.

♦ Monitor the financial position of Citizens Advice Richmond, ensuring that it operates within its means and objectives, and ensuring there are clear lines of accountability for day-to-day financial management.

♦ Monitor whether Citizens Advice Richmond complies with its governing document and meets the required standards.

♦ Seek the views of all sections of the community and monitor how well the service meets the needs of the local community.

♦ Ensure the service plans for the recruitment and turnover of staff and volunteers.

♦ Review their own work and how effectively they operate, including action for improvement.

♦ Work on specific projects to further the strategic objectives of Citizens Advice Richmond.

What do you need to have?

You’ll need to:

● Understand the type of work undertaken by a local Citizens Advice.

● Understand and accept the responsibilities and liabilities as trustees.

● Be able to facilitate and lead meetings.

● Have good interpersonal skills.

● Have good listening, verbal, and written communication skills.

● Be able to exercise good independent judgment.

● Have good numeracy skills to understand accounts with the support of the Treasurer.

● Be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles, and policies, including confidentiality and data protection.

● Be willing to undertake training in your role.

How much time do you need to give?

You will need up to one day a week for the regular activities, but this will vary. Trustee boards usually meet in the evenings, and you’ll likely need to give 12-15 hours per year to attend these. Sub-committees meet quarterly and a further 4-6 hours per year are required for these.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone

Merton Mencap is a leading local charity in the London borough of Merton.  Formed over 70 years ago, we support children, young people and adults with a learning disability and autism and their families by providing a range of services and activities.  Our teams of staff and volunteers are hugely dedicated to providing the highest quality support for local people.

The charity is led by its Executive Committee comprising 8 trustees and the Chief Executive, who meet 6 times a year to ensure the organisation is carrying out its charitable aims.

We have an exciting volunteer vacancy of Treasurer, who will also be a trustee. The Treasurer works alongside the Finance Manager and Chief Executive to provide mentorship, expert accounting advice and guidance, and chairs our Finance Committee.

All our volunteers receive the charity's mandatory training and support from our team.
