Coempowered is a small but rapidly developing non-profit working to empower indiviuals and help build community capacity among for young people, women, and marginalised communities in the UK and internationally through workshops, classes, semiar, projects and research. About the Opportunity

Key Deliverables

• Research suitable grant opportunities and funding sources.

• Assist in preparing core organisational documents, including:

  • Activity reports

  • Business plans

  • Project proposals and bids

• Write compelling grant applications tailored to funders’ criteria.

• Prepare outreach materials, donor communications, and mailshots.

• Use direct mailing and other methods to engage potential and existing donors.

• Support the recruitment, coordination, and management of volunteers involved in fundraising activities.

• Ensure smooth execution of all tasks related to fundraising, documentation, and relationship-building.

We’re looking for two Community Connectors, over the age of 18 years old, based at Leicester Royal Infirmary, Infirmary Square, Leicester.

You’ll be volunteering at a set day and time to suit you, once a month.

This is a new project within the hospital and offers a great opportunity to someone to have the support and opportunities from both the Stroke Association and Leicester Royal Infirmary staff.

The volunteers will represent the Stroke Association within the hospital to:

•  Build relationships within the hospital and local community with people, staff and other organisations to raise awareness of stroke, our charity and support available.
•  Engage within the hospital and potentially local communities by supporting the delivery of presentations or talks (either face to face or digitally), share your experience of stroke (if applicable) and attend fundraising events and cheque collections.
• Engage with stroke survivors and their loved ones, sharing your story (if applicable), discussing stroke impact and the support available.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this role.

You will need to be registered as an NHS volunteer for this role- we can support this process.

Key Responsibilities:

 Meetings & Records

Governance & Compliance

• Help ensure the charity meets its legal requirements with the Charity Commission.

 Communication & Coordination

• Be the main point of contact for trustee communication — keeping everyone in the loop.

What will you be doing?

Our Trustees get together five times a year for a mixture of virtual and in-person meetings (four Board meetings and one training day with staff), as well as spending time before meetings reading the Board papers and preparing, totaling a commitment of 50–70 hours a year of their time.
They’re responsible for providing strategic direction and making key decisions to ensure we’re delivering on our objectives.

What are we looking for?

Financial and audit/risk experience (a recognised financial qualification is desirable) and strong knowledge of Statements of Recommended Practice, charity and company law and United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice.
