Purpose of the role: 

The Kinship Navigator provides intensive, time-limited support to kinship carers through the Kinship Connected programme, a structured six-month intervention designed to help kinship families stabilise placements and access the support they need.

Working directly with kinship carers in West Dunbartonshire, you will build trusting relationships while completing structured assessments, goal setting and reviews to help families strengthen their support networks and navigate services such as children’s social care, education, health and community support.

This is a community-facing role, working from Y Sort It’s offices and directly in kinship carers’ homes and community spaces. You will work alongside Y Sort It’s Intandem mentors to ensure that both carers and the children they care for receive coordinated, complementary support.

Accurate recording of your work is essential to enable Kinship and Inspiring Scotland to understand what is working, demonstrate impact and learn from this pioneering pilot.

Direct support

You will provide intensive one-to-one support to kinship carers for up to six months, working within the delivery approach set out in the Kinship Connected Service Manual. You will also establish and facilitate a monthly support group for kinship carers in West Dunbartonshire.

This may include:

• Providing emotional and practical support to kinship carers.
• Completing structured needs assessments, SMART goal setting and regular reviews with kinship carers.
• Advocating for kinship carers in meetings with professionals where appropriate.
• Establishing and facilitating a monthly support group for kinship carers in the local area.
• Mapping local services and building relationships with organisations that can provide specialist support, training or activities for kinship families in West Dunbartonshire.
• Liaising with schools, local authorities and other professionals to coordinate support around families.
• Supporting kinship carers with challenges relating to the child(ren) in their kinship care.
• Signposting to relevant services, support organisations and Kinship training opportunities.
• Referring children in kinship care to Y Sort It’s Intandem mentoring programme where appropriate.
• Coordinating celebration and family events (including in Kinship Care Week).
• Supporting applications for grants for essential items or family breaks.

Partnership working with Y Sort It and Inspiring Scotland

• Work closely and collaboratively with Y Sort It colleagues on a day-to-day basis, building a strong co-location relationship that benefits kinship families.
• Develop and maintain clear cross-referral pathways between Kinship Connected and Y Sort It’s Intandem mentoring programme.
• Contribute to joint learning and shared reflection about how the whole-family model is working and what outcomes are being achieved for both carers and children.
• Represent Kinship professionally in all interactions with Y Sort It, Inspiring Scotland and other local partners.
• Participate in any joint reporting, learning or evaluation activities required by Inspiring Scotland.

Collaboration and wider partnership working

• Build constructive relationships with West Dunbartonshire Council and other statutory and voluntary sector partners to support awareness of the programme and effective referral pathways.
• Work closely with colleagues across Kinship, including Peer Support, Training and Communications, to ensure kinship carers in West Dunbartonshire can access the full range of Kinship’s support.
• Contribute to cross-team learning, sharing emerging insights about kinship carers’ experiences and the local landscape in Scotland to inform Kinship’s broader organisational learning.
• Represent Kinship at local meetings, networks or events to strengthen collaboration and raise awareness of kinship care in Scotland.

Safeguarding and risk management

Kinship has a robust safeguarding structure. You will be supported by a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Designated Deputy Safeguarding Leads (DDSL). In line with this policy, and mindful of the Scottish legislative and practice context, you will:

• Recognise, report, record, respond and refer safeguarding risks via our safeguarding process with the support of the safeguarding team.
• Follow and understand Kinship’s organisational safeguarding policies, as well as relevant Scottish guidance and legislation.
• Complete risk assessments for events in line with Kinship’s policy.
• Follow the Kinship Health and Safety policy.
• Use the StaySafe lone worker app.

Monitoring, evaluation and data quality

Accurate and consistent data recording is a core requirement of this role. As Kinship Connected in West Dunbartonshire is a pilot programme, high-quality records and documentation are essential to demonstrate impact to Inspiring Scotland and to generate the learning that will inform future development of Kinship’s work in Scotland.

• Maintain accurate, timely records of all activity, assessments, support plans, contacts and outcomes on Kinship’s CRM system (Salesforce) in line with organisational policy and programme protocols.
• Complete kinship carer needs assessments, SMART goal setting, reviews and outcome recording in accordance with the Kinship Navigator model.
• Contribute to monitoring and reporting requirements for Inspiring Scotland, ensuring activity and outcomes are documented consistently.
• Fully contribute to quality assurance and learning processes, including collecting feedback and case studies that demonstrate impact for kinship families.
• Contribute to the learning about how co-location with Y Sort It supports whole-family outcomes

About the role

This is a new senior role at WSC, with responsibility for developing and delivering our fundraising strategy and building the systems, relationships and income streams needed to support the organisation's next stage of growth.

The Fundraising Manager will take day-to-day ownership of WSC's fundraising function and pipeline, leading opportunities from prospect research and assessment through application, award, grant management and renewal. They will combine hands-on fundraising delivery with strategic leadership, developing income from trusts and foundations, statutory funders, corporate partners, major donors and other appropriate sources.

You will work closely with the Executive Director who retains strategic oversight and final approval of fundraising applications and commitments, while taking day-to-day ownership of fundraising activity and the pipeline.  

This is an opportunity for an experienced fundraiser to shape WSC’s fundraising at an exciting stage of organisational development, whilst contributing directly to our work to challenge labour exploitation and promote decent work.

The postholder will be responsible for delivering an agreed annual fundraising target and for building a balanced pipeline of prospective trusts, foundations, statutory funders, corporate partners and individual supporters. In the first 12–18 months, a key priority will be to strengthen WSC's fundraising infrastructure, increase the diversity and predictability of income, and develop a sustainable pipeline aligned with our strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising strategy and leadership

● Develop, implement and review of a Fundraising Strategy and delivery plan for WSC to achieve required income targets across fundraising disciplines together with the Executive Director aligned with our overall Strategic Plan.

● Set and monitor fundraising objectives, income targets and KPIs reporting quarterly to the Executive Director and Board on progress, opportunities and risks.

● Develop and maintain WSC’s prospect map identifying priority funders and prospects and setting clear cultivation strategies and next steps for each.

● Develop WSC’s major donor pipeline including compelling cases for support, and cultivation plan for priority prospects.

● Advise the Executive Director and Board on fundraising opportunities, income diversification, funding risk and the implications of changes in the funding environment.

● Lead on management and renewal of WSC’s existing grants portfolio ensuring income is sustained and relationships are developed strategically.

● Assess prospective funding opportunities and make recommendations for the Executive Director on whether to pursue them, considering strategic fit, likelihood of success, resource requirements and financial viability.

● Develop, maintain and improve WSC's fundraising systems, processes and tools, ensuring that information is accurate, accessible and supports good decision-making.

● Maintain a strong understanding of WSC’s current programmes, impact and future strategic priorities and translate these into compelling fundraising opportunities and cases for support.

Pipeline and income generation

● Research, identify, cultivate and secure funding from trusts, foundations, statutory sources, corporate partners, major donors and individual donors and other appropriate income sources.

● Own and manage WSC's fundraising pipeline, ensuring opportunities are appropriately researched, assessed, prioritised, progressed and recorded from prospect through to renewal.

● Lead the end-to-end development of funding applications, coordinating input from programme, finance, communications and other colleagues and ensuring applications are compelling, accurate and submitted on time.

● Maintain accurate pipeline data and income forecasts, using these to identify funding gaps, opportunities and risks and to inform organisational planning.

● Monitor the wider fundraising environment and identify emerging opportunities, risks and trends relevant to WSC.

• · Ensure appropriate due diligence is undertaken and agreements are in place before accepting significant gifts or grants, in line with WSC's policies and procedures.
• · Ensure donations and grants are processed, recorded and acknowledged promptly and accurately, working with the Finance Officer and other colleagues as appropriate.

Grant Management and Renewal

· Maintain an overview of WSC's active grants, including reporting requirements, key commitments, deadlines and renewal opportunities.

· Ensure funder reporting deadlines and grant commitments are identified and managed proactively working with relevant colleagues across WSC.

· Lead the preparation and submission of narrative funder reports, working with the programme and finance colleagues to evidence progress, outcomes and impact.

· Work closely with the Finance Officer to ensure financial reports and expenditure information provided to funders are accurate, timely and consistent with grant agreements.

· Develop renewal plans 4-6 months ahead of grant end dates or earlier where required by the funder and lead the renewal process in collaboration with the Executive Director and Finance Officer.

· Maintain and develop funder relationships throughout the grant cycle using reporting, meetings and other opportunities to demonstrate impact and strengthen relationships.

Fundraising Systems, Finance and Reporting

● Maintain accurate and up-to-date fundraising records, identifying an appropriate CRM and ensuring key information, relationships, deadlines and actions are documented.

● Work closely with the Finance Officer to develop realistic application budgets, monitor grant income and expenditure and ensure financial information provided to funders is accurate and consistent.

● Ensure appropriate fundraising records and documentation are maintained including applications, grant agreements, reports, correspondence and due diligence.

Line management, collaboration and worker-led fundraising

· Recruit, line manage and support future fundraising staff as the charity grows, providing clear direction, regular supervision, constructive feedback and opportunities for professional development.

· Develop effective systems and processes that enable the fundraising team to work consistently, collaboratively and efficiently as the function grows.

· Manage freelancers, agencies or consultants as required.

· Participate in WSC's Senior Management Team, contributing to organisational planning, strategic decision-making and alignment across WSC's work

· Collaborate with policy, casework, operations, communications and other colleagues to align fundraising with organisational priorities.

· Champion WSC's worker-driven governance model and ensure that workers have meaningful influence over fundraising activity and how their experiences are represented.

· Co-produce fundraising outputs with workers, prioritising their voices, interests, dignity and agency.

· Actively contribute to a values-led, inclusive and collaborative working culture.

· Ensure fundraising knowledge, relationships, decisions and organisational learning are appropriately documented and shared, supporting organisational resilience and continuity.

Communications and narrative

● Work closely with the Communications and Narratives Lead to develop compelling, audience-specific cases for support, donor communications and fundraising materials.

● Support the development and use of evidence, impact data and worker-centred narratives in fundraising.

● Ensure that fundraising and communications involving workers are ethical, accessible and based on meaningful consent, agency and participation.

Governance, compliance & organisational reporting

● Ensure fundraising activity complies with relevant charity law and regulation, fundraising standards, data protection requirements and WSC policies.

● Ensure appropriate due diligence, gift acceptance and risk assessment processes are followed for significant gifts, grants and partnerships.

● Provide regular fundraising reports and analysis to the Executive Director and Board, highlighting progress against targets, pipeline value, income risks and opportunities.

● Support the Executive Director and Board with information required for organisational planning, financial forecasting and reporting to funders and other stakeholders.

• Significant experience in fundraising, income generation or business development with a demonstrable track record of securing income from trusts and foundations and statutory sources.

We recruit and support weekend foster carers – known as Weekenders – who build regular, long-term relationships with children and young people supported by local authorities. The programme is entering an exciting period of growth. We are expanding our partnerships with Regional Care Cooperatives, Fostering Hubs and local authorities across England, currently including London, the South West, North West and North East.

THE ROLE – Lead delivery, develop people and stay close to practice

As a Weekenders Programme Manager, you will turn our ambition into consistently excellent delivery. You will lead the day-to-day support of applicants across an agreed portfolio of areas, making sure prospective Weekenders receive a warm, responsive and motivational experience and that our partners can rely on us to deliver what we have agreed.

This is a people-management and delivery role with a strong connection to practice. You will line-manage Journey Guides, manage a network of independent social workers (ISWs), lead our prep group training and undertake some intro chats yourself.

The role does not carry a statutory caseload. It does carry real responsibility for safeguarding, practice quality, operational oversight and relationships across a growing, geographically distributed programme.

Delivery Leadership: Lead programme delivery

• Take day-to-day responsibility for Weekenders delivery across an agreed portfolio of Fostering Hubs and local authority partners.

• Turn partnership agreements and local processes into clear applicant journeys, with roles, handovers and timescales understood by everyone involved.

• Plan capacity across Journey Guides, ISWs, prep group training and your own direct work so that delivery keeps pace with demand.

• Monitor applicant progress, identify delays or risks early and work with colleagues and partners to find practical solutions.

• Maintain a consistent Now Foster experience across regions while adapting thoughtfully to local contexts.

People Management: Manage and develop Journey Guides

• Provide reflective one-to-one and group supervision, clear objectives and timely feedback.

• Coach Journey Guides in relationship-based, strengths-based and motivational conversations, using observation, role play and practice review where helpful.

Practice Oversight: Manage ISWs and assure practice quality

• Build and maintain a reliable pool of qualified, registered ISWs to undertake initial home visits and teach on prep group training days.

• Set clear expectations for the quality, timeliness and tone of home visits, written outputs, training and feedback.

Training: Plan, staff and lead prep group training

• Own the planning and delivery of prep group training across programme areas, including schedules, venues or online delivery, materials, communications and staffing.

• Brief and support ISW co-facilitators so sessions are coherent, well-paced and grounded in the realities of fostering.

You’ll work closely with our campaigns team and a social media manager to adapt and enhance campaigns through media, partnerships and content. This role works across multiple channels. You don’t need to be a tactical expert in all of them, but you need to be a strong strategic thinker who can carefully consider the role of each channel and asset. You will be as comfortable setting the strategic direction as you are delivering: pitching a story, briefing a journalist, running influencer outreach.

What you’ll do:

• Advise on and support the development of our campaigns by creating and inputting into campaign narratives and communications plans

• Work alongside campaigners and social media manager to oversee and/or produce complementary content that builds pressure on the target: reactive posts, video, and assets timed to campaign moments

• Liaise with media contacts and external agencies to find appropriate opportunities to amplify our campaigns across European and national media

• Build partnerships with influencers, creators, and independent activists to enhance the power and impact of our campaigns 

• Support the campaigns team to strengthen their storytelling skills and identify compelling storytelling opportunities in their partnerships, such as media hooks

• Build and sustain contact with journalists, produce press releases and briefings, keep our media database accurate and current across our priority countries

• Oversee and refresh our social media presence, line managing and coaching a social media manager. 

• Stay close to the news cycle and to what is working on social in order to identify moments that put our campaign in front of the people we need to move

• Contribute to defining the success measures for communications, including social media KPIs, and oversee activity to meet them 

• Advise senior leadership on communications and reputational considerations, including crisis communications approach

• Ensure consistency of messaging and tone across all public communications.

Who we’re looking for:

Essential skills:

• Storytelling: You can translate complex policy or campaign issues into compelling stories for different audiences, and generate creative news angles from unlikely material or challenging subject matter. You can write inspiring, clear, and impactful copy in English.

• Delivery: You have experience in at least one of the following areas:

  • Media relations: Securing proactive and impactful media coverage which influenced policy or moved the needle - in other words, which has had an impact beyond raising profile or raising awareness. 

  • Influencer partnerships: Building relationships and impactful collaborations with influencers, content creators or other content partners. 

  • Content creation: Producing social media content which mobilised people to take action. 

• Audiences: You have experience of engaging new audiences through communications channels, and you are able to use audience insights to influence your approach.

• Analysis: You are data-driven and results-oriented, eager to test, learn, and continuously improve your content and communications. 

• Collaboration: You thrive in collaborative, international teams, eager to learn from colleagues and share your own expertise.

• Coaching and training: You can design and deliver practical training that changes how colleagues work, not just how much they know, and you enjoy building capability in others rather than holding it yourself.

Important criteria: 

• Values: You are deeply committed to systemic change in Europe, aligned with values of solidarity, sustainability, justice, and democracy. You are passionate about empowering people to realize their own power and become agents of change.

• Languages: You are fluent in English 

• Travel: You are willing to travel within Europe when needed (at least 3 times a year)

• Experience level: You should have five years of relevant experience for this post. 

Nice to have 

• You are familiar with a digital-first campaigns model, though you don’t necessarily need to have worked in this context before. 

• Have recent experience of using video to tell complex stories and reach new audiences.

• You don’t have to have line management experience, but it could be beneficial. 

• Knowledge of the Brussels press landscape alongside national media

• Other European languages are an added benefit.

What we offer:

• Working hours: Full time (5 days a week) or part time optional, (4 days a week, with a pro-rata salary adjustment.)

• Contract type: Permanent 

• Location: Remote within countries where WeMove Europe is registered to work 

• Salary ranges: Gross year salary per country, depending on experience level and location. The ranges below are indicative, and based on at least 5+ years of relevant experience. These salary ranges are estimates indexed to local living costs. Final calculations are based on city cost of living indexes and can differ slightly depending on your location

  • Netherlands, UK: 62,000 - 65,000 EUR (Amsterdam, London range 12% higher)

  • Belgium, Germany, France: 53,000 - 56,000 EUR (Brussels, Berlin range 7% higher; Paris ranges 12% higher )

  • Italy: 47,000 - 50,000 EUR (Rome ranges 87% higher)

  • Spain: 44,000 - 47,000 EUR (Madrid ranges 10% higher) 

  • Poland: 39,000 - 42,000 EUR (Warsaw ranges 10% higher)
