Information and Advice Service: The Information and Advice service for older people provides a free, confidential, and independent service for anyone aged 65+ living in Bromley and 50 + in Greenwich. Our advisors provide general advice on a range of subjects: employment rights, welfare benefits, housing, consumer rights and adult social care.
Role Summary: Provide information and signposting to older people living in Bromley and Greenwich and provide admin support to the Information and Advice Team, helping to keep the information resources up to date.
What will I be involved in?
- Answering calls and basic enquiries coming into our Information and Advice Service, full training is provided. Present and discuss information with the client in an accessible manner.
- Committed to researching and providing up to date information to vulnerable older people using the internet and other resources.
- Identify and research information relevant to the user’s situation, drawing on resources available.
- Being online and knowledgeable of Microsoft packages and the use of emails
- Liase closely with the Advice Case Supervisor, other advisors, and wider staff team. Seeking guidance and support where required.
- Successfully complete online training courses for Age UK Bromley and Greenwich volunteers.
- Participate in volunteer support meetings with the Advice Case Supervisor and any training on safeguarding adults and appropriate boundaries.
- At all times work in accordance with the organisation’s policies regarding Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Confidentiality & Data Protection. Lone working.
- Represent the professional standards of Age UK Bromley and Greenwich and ensure that you wear your volunteer id badge whilst volunteering.

- Good communication skills and confident at speaking to clients on the telephone
- Able to prioritise tasks with good time management skills.
- A commitment to ensuring that customers are provided with accurate relevant information and support. Interested in finding out more about social welfare law advice e.g. housing and welfare benefits.
- Be a good listener and have empathy with older people, being approachable and welcoming.
- Interested in learning and developing new skills required of the role. Demonstrate that you are interested in what the client has to say by communicating respect and warmth.
- Demonstrate a non-judgmental approach. The listener may personally disagree with the client’s opinions or actions but attempts to understand the client’s point of view and shows that they still value the client.
- Being able to maintain client confidentiality, understand the importance of keeping within the parameters of the role and have a good understanding of GDPR and Data Protection.

The Bromley Experts by Experience Secretary will play a vital role, working with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chair of Trustees. You will help the Trustee Board carry out their duties in an efficient manner, ensuring all governance documents and procedures are followed. The Secretary will ensure the smooth and efficient running of accessible trustee board meetings and will be the Trustee responsible for leading preparation, administration, and delivery of the AGM.
The Secretary will ensure the trustees recognise and complete relevant actions related to their decisions, and that all decisions made by the trustees comply with the relevant legislative and regulatory requirements the charity is subject to, are in accordance with Bromley Experts by Experience’s governing documents, reflect the aims of the charity, and continue to provide benefit to our members, beneficiaries and local Deaf and Disabled people.
Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chair of Trustees, the Secretary will ensure the charity meets all its regulatory requirements, has strong governance and foundations to enable Bromley Experts by Experience to achieve as much as we can in future.

Responsibilities of the Secretary:
- Prepare agendas in consultation with the Chair and CEO.
- Ensure arrangements for meetings are met including hybrid arrangements and access requirements of attendees.
- Receive agenda items from other Trustees and circulate agendas and any supporting papers in good time.
- Check that quorum is present at each meeting (including hybrid attendance)
- Minute meetings, circulate draft minutes and action points to Board members.
- Ensure the Chair signs (electronic or wet) minutes once approved.
- Check Trustees have carried out action(s) agreed.
- Circulate agendas and minutes of the annual general meeting (AGM) and any special or extraordinary general meetings.
- Ensure up-to-date records are kept of Trustee Board membership.
- Ensure the board fulfils their duties and responsibilities for effective charity governance in line with Bromley Experts by Experience’s policies and the requirements of the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
- Ensure X by X Bromley activities benefit its members and beneficiaries.
- Support and advocate for X by X Bromley’s mission, vision and values.
What we ask of you:
- The Secretary should expect to serve for a minimum of 12 months.
- The Secretary is required to attend scheduled meetings with some ad hoc meetings where necessary.
- It is anticipated that the time commitment will be an approximate average 2.5 hours per week. This will mainly comprise of:
- Board meeting attendance (plus preparation and minutes) every 8 weeks.
- AGM attendance (plus preparation and minutes)
- Supporting our annual Disability Pride event.
- Occasional scheduled meetings with senior staff and/or Chair.
- As we are a very small charity, there could be occasions when extra time will be required (e.g. during the planning of new projects or dealing with any particular difficulties that arise), or where additional support would be appreciated (e.g. attending events, meeting members at project days).

- Lived Experience of disability (can be self-identified)
- A belief that Disabled people can and should be actively welcomed and included in our communities. An understanding that it is barriers in society that make that harder. This is called the Social Model of Disability.
- Strong organisational skills.

- Experience of minute-taking and strong record keeping skills.

The Secretary must be legally eligible to stand as a registered Company Director and Charity Trustee. Having had previous experience as a trustee of a voluntary organisation is an advantage.

Web developers and designers wanted to support East London Waterworks Park in continuing to improve its website and digital infrastructure.
East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces.

Could you help to raise vital funds for SSAFA in your local area? You don’t need a military background, just the ability to get on with all kinds of people, some basic I.T skills and good written and spoken English. What is a Fundraising Coordinator?
As Fundraising Coordinator, you would work with your local SSAFA branch to develop a Fundraising Plan. You would be central to delivering this local plan to raise funds through a range of local sources including grants, trusts, appeals, collections, and events.
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
SSAFA branches rely on a regular charitable income to fund all the necessities behind our support for clients. This includes volunteer travel expenses, phone bills, publicity, and grants for clients in urgent needs. A varied programme of fundraising also keeps the SSAFA profile high in the local community. We’d love to hear from you if you could help by coordinating this vital aspect of your local SSAFA branch.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but many volunteers are based at home. You would also be out and about at events and meetings. This role would suit someone looking to give a regular time commitment to SSAFA although when and where would be flexible to suit you.
What would you be doing?
- Developing an ethical fundraising plan based on the needs of the branch and choosing a mix of sources.
- Working with the branch secretary and Regional Fundraising Manager, recruit a team of fundraising volunteers to support events, appeals and collections.
- Working with the Regional Fundraising Manager, support national fundraising campaigns.
- Working with the Branch Publicity Officer, develop opportunities to combine awareness and fundraising.
- Planning and running local appeals, collections, and events
- Identifying and submitting applications to appropriate trusts and grant funding organisations
- Working with Marketing staff at central office check that all fundraising materials meet SSAFA branding style and current key messages.
- Liaise with Regional Fundraising Manager when pursuing opportunities beyond local sources e.g., corporates.
- Evaluate fundraising activities and provide reports and information for the branch.
- Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA including all sections of the community in awareness raising
- Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

The Grants Coordinator plays a crucial role in securing funding for our organization, which is a small but highly effective charity which uniquely acts as the collective voice of the views and concerns of all unpaid Mental Health Carers in the Royal Borough of Kingston. We are recognised in this campaigning role by statutory services who engage us as active members of decision-making committees. We also partner with other relevant organisations.
We assist individual Carers with 1:1 advice, guidance and self-empowerment, also having a monthly Peer-Support Group.
We are keen to further develop our services and, for this, we invite a volunteer with financial experience to help us achieve this. Whilst KMHCF is fully-funded for its present activities, we look for an applicant to guide us towards funding opportunities for our future expansion, and to take the lead on the application process.
This position involves researching and identifying potential funding sources, developing grant proposals, and managing fundraising campaigns. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding and experience of the grant application process, excellent writing and communication skills, and a passion for making a difference in the community.
You would need to be able to produce bids which would, in a competitive arena, entice Grant Funders to want to support our service.
This role would be home-based, but with regular contact with the Management Committee.

The mentoring project at Esteem invites members of the community to share their skills and experience by mentoring a young person with similar interests.
Mentoring is an important part of our organisation and runs alongside Work Experience opportunities, providing tailored volunteer opportunities to young people aged 14-26, social activities and wellbeing support. Creating space for young adults to thrive within their lives and communities.
Role Purpose
This is an exciting opportunity to volunteer for a charity that is passionate about giving young people the chance to develop their skills and confidence, both for their own benefit and for that of society as a whole.
You can make a difference by mentoring 14-26 year olds who are developing or discovering their potential.
The mentors’ role is to support young people reach their next step focusing on their vocational development and encouraging progression into or maintaining Education, Employment or Training. The profile of many of Esteem’s young adults is that they have low levels of confidence and may be quite anxious; some young people may be neurodiverse including have a history of mental health problems, they also may have faced homelessness and other life affecting issues including the effects of long term unemployment

You will be based at Esteem’s Shoreham office but may meet your mentee in a public place such as a coffee shop, if that is what you both prefer and meets safeguarding requirements.

You will be skills matched with a young person who will have similar interests, experience or an interest in your professional field. You will support your mentee by identifying and highlighting their skills and establishing realistic and achievable goals by breaking them down into manageable steps.

You will enter notes onto our database system UpShot after each meeting with your mentee and will be asked to fill in an outcome form at the conclusion of your mentoring relationship.
Principal tasks and responsibilities

To meet with your mentee regularly (once a week or once a fortnight) at a convenient time for you both either at the Esteem’s office or in a public place like a cafe.

To offer ongoing vocational support to your mentee and support them to access services (such as in-house Counselling or from external organisations) if they need help with any issues they are dealing with.

To support your mentee through their vocational setting, either volunteering at Esteem or within their personal, work or educational setting.

To offer positive feedback and aim to build self-confidence with your mentee.

To keep up to date notes of your meetings.

Complete regular reviews with the mentee and create a clear action plan if appropriate.

Attend all relevant training to your role.

To report any safeguarding concerns to the Safeguarding Team.

To maintain the required level of confidentiality in all tasks and communications.

Person Specification
Experience
For this round of recruitment we are looking primarily for those who work in the creative industry and those who may have started their own business and/or have an entrepreneurial background. That being said, we are more than happy to accept applications from those who feel they have other skills and experience that could benefit young adults.
Whilst some experience of mentoring or supporting young adults would be helpful this is something we will cover in the day’s training.

What you will be doing
- Be an ambassador for Team Parkinson’s - engaging with local staff, volunteers, and your local community, to ensure the group has the greatest possible impact on those affected by Parkinson's in your area
- Accurately record financial activity, keeping the group and the Parkinson's UK local networks finance team informed of the group's financial position
- With support from your local staff, stay up to date with Parkinson's UK's financial policies actively sharing them with the group and supporting the group to operate within them
- Provide regular reports to the committee on the financial status of the group including final accounts.
- Deal with financial administration for the group, from annual reports to legacy spending, and ensuring volunteer expenses are paid accurately in line with our volunteer expenses policy
- Be a signatory on the group's bank accounts
The skills you need
- Previous experience in finance, accountancy or bookkeeping can be valuable, but is not essential
- Confident with numbers and able to take the lead on the group’s finances
- Have confident computer and email skills - be open to using new systems and other digital tools

Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
SSAFA branches rely on a regular charitable income to fund all the necessities behind our support for clients. This includes volunteer travel expenses, phone bills, publicity, and grants for clients in urgent needs. A varied programme of fundraising also keeps the SSAFA profile high in the local community. We’d love to hear from you if you could help by coordinating this vital aspect of your local SSAFA branch.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but many volunteers are based at home. You would also be out and about at events and meetings. This role would suit someone looking to give a regular time commitment to SSAFA although when and where would be flexible to suit you.

- Developing an ethical fundraising plan based on the needs of the branch and choosing a mix of sources.
- Working with the branch secretary and Regional Fundraising Manager, recruit a team of fundraising volunteers to support events, appeals and collections.
- Working with the Regional Fundraising Manager, support national fundraising campaigns.
- Working with the Branch Publicity Officer, develop opportunities to combine awareness and fundraising.
- Planning and running local appeals, collections, and events
- Identifying and submitting applications to appropriate trusts and grant funding organisations
- Working with Marketing staff at central office check that all fundraising materials meet SSAFA branding style and current key messages.
- Liaise with Regional Fundraising Manager when pursuing opportunities beyond local sources e.g., corporates.
- Evaluate fundraising activities and provide reports and information for the branch.
- Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA including all sections of the community in awareness raising
- Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.
