A cancer diagnosis brings extra expense from day one. Every child or young person with a cancer diagnosis has a short-term disability and needs to apply for Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payments (PIP). The forms are long and complex and sometimes families need advice or support to ensure they include enough information to receive the correct level of financial support.

Your empathy, understanding and ability to identify the key information to enable families and young people to claim financial assistance will have a tremendous impact easing stress and allowing them to concentrate on supporting themselves physically and emotionally.

You will be an important part of the team and provide practical support to young people and families completing DLA and PIP forms which can seem lengthy and daunting to young people, and families. Each family’s needs are different, however support via benefits such as DLA and PIP are usually one of the first recommendations made to families seeking financial advice.

What you’ll be doing:

• Providing face to face to support to families of children and young people with a diagnosis of cancer
• Actively listening to families and asking relevant questions to enable them to identify specific support needs
• Supporting families to complete complex forms to enable them to claim DLA or PIP
• As a key part of the team recognise when to ask for other team members for advice or support

This will include:

• Looking at the DLA/PIP form with the family or young person
• Explaining the information Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) needs
• Coaching the family to include as much detail in their answers as necessary

The practical support required for this role will vary from taking the time to read through an application with a young person or family, who require a second opinion.  Others may require questions to be re-phrased to simplify them and make them more applicable to their lived experience.

You will be providing guidance on how to answer the questions on the forms and useful information to include. It may occasionally include filling in the form with the family/young person when they are not able to complete it themselves

Booking slots will be flexible to meet the individual need (30 minutes up to 2 hours)

There is scope and opportunity in this role for development into supporting families or young people with appeals.

At MiMIAT Health, we are empowering heroes with chronic conditions. We offer a multilingual app (iOS & Android), already live across Europe and Kenya, that enables patients to track symptoms, diet, weight, and stool. Soon, they’ll also integrate wearables and upload clinical records, building a unified, patient-owned health timeline.

Chronic disease management today remains highly fragmented, inequitable, and provider-centric, leaving millions without continuous care, especially in low-resource or high-mobility settings. Patients often lose ownership of their own health data, resulting in reactive instead of proactive care, late interventions and detections of flare ups, and preventable hospitalizations. 89% of chronic patients fail to consistently track their condition due to fragmented, manual, or incomplete tools, and 71% of doctors report that disconnected apps and records create gaps in delivering personalized care. In many regions, patients without smartphones or stable internet access are further excluded from digital health innovation.

MiMIAT Health addresses these challenges by creating a unified, patient-driven platform for structured health data aggregation, with mobile and SMS-based accessibility. We tackle the systemic inequities of chronic care access, digital inclusion, and health data sovereignty, aligning with SDG 3: Good Health & Well-Being.

MiMIAT Health is a digital health platform offering a free mobile app (iOS and Android) available in five languages, enabling patients to self-track key health metrics, and soon connect medical devices, and upload clinical documents — building their own continuous health record. By Q4 2025, we are also set to launch SMS-based access to reach digitally underserved populations.

Healthcare providers, with patient consent — particularly in primary and secondary care — can access this real-time data through our web platform, allowing earlier interventions and more proactive care. Finance and Fundraising Lead

Volunteer Role Description (remote, unpaid)

�� What are we looking for? We’re looking for a Finance & Fundraising Lead (volunteer, 4–5h/week, with potential for paid FTE based on performance and funding) to help us build the financial backbone of MiMIAT Health as we scale. This is a hands-on, high-trust role for someone who believes numbers can drive impact, not just profit. Based purely on performance and commitment, this role has the potential to evolve into a paid part-time or full-time position as the organization grows and funding permits. You’ll work directly with our Founder/CEO and our COO, shaping how we budget, forecast, raise capital, and build confidence with funders. As we close our pre-seed round and enter the next phase, your contribution will directly influence how we grow, and how many patients we reach. You’ll be joining a committed, purpose-driven team spread across three continents and five countries, all working remotely, all led by mission.

�� What you’ll do? Co-develop MiMIAT’s financial planning, budgeting processes, and 3–5 year financial models to support strategic growth, capital forecasting, and upcoming fundraising milestones. – Create clear, funder-facing materials (budgets, burn rates, strategic use of funds). – Support with fundraising strategy and active pipeline management. – Help structure and track our runway, budgeting, and internal financial processes. – Collaborate on shaping our investor narrative and data room, alongside CEO.

Your 4–5 hours per week won’t just shape a spreadsheet. They’ll shape how fast we reach millions of patients, and how confidently we do it.

�� Who are you? – You’re comfortable building financial models from scratch (projections, P&L, cash flow). – You’ve worked with early-stage startups (pre-seed to Series A), ideally helping raise capital. – You understand what investors need to see, and how to balance strategy with real-world constraints. – You can translate financial complexity into clarity, for funders, partners, and the team. – You’re excited by purpose, not perks. You want your work to mean something. – Bonus if you’ve worked in healthcare or social impact settings.

We’re passionate about what we do, and love giving second-hand clothing a chance of going to a good home. Our shop teams are key to raising vital funds for our work and act as incredible advocates for the rights of children both in the UK and around the world.

Volunteering in the shop

Mary’s Living & Giving Kew has become a much loved destination for followers of pre-loved fashion and a community hub for the wonderful residents of Kew. Located minutes from world famous Kew Gardens we welcome lots of UK and international visitors too.

Our Kew Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

It’s a great opportunity to visit the shop, meet some of our existing volunteers and have a go at some of the tasks that you would be supporting with as a shop volunteer. Hopefully allowing you to get a feel for the role and make sure it’s for you. We also ask for a couple of references (these don’t have to be formal workplace ones, just someone who has known you for over 6 months and isn’t related).

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised

brain tumour charity. Offering practical, financial and emotional support to both adult and child

brain tumour patients, together with their families.

We fund brain tumour research in Yorkshire; we hope this research, dedicated to identifying new

approaches to the discovery and treatment of brain tumours, will improve outcomes for patients.

At YBTC we are a small team who are growing to meet the needs of those affected by a brain

tumour in Yorkshire. Around 15 new cases of primary brain tumour are diagnosed in the region

every week.

As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best, whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you! 

You can expect us to

• Make you feel welcome, included and respected in line with our values and behaviours

• Cover agreed out-of-pocket expenses in line with our Expenses Policy
• Provide you with access to learning, development and engagement opportunities

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!
