Overview
Care4Calais (C4C) is establishing an Advisory Board to ensure the voices of refugees and people seeking asylum are central to the charity’s mission and activities. The board will provide guidance, insights, and recommendations to the Board of Trustees and Senior Leadership Team (SLT), ensuring C4C’s policies and services are informed by lived experience.
Purpose & Objectives
The Advisory Board will:
● Offer insights and suggestions on C4C’s mission, policies, and services, based on personal skills and experiences.
● Help the charity articulate the challenges faced by refugees to a wider audience.
● Provide feedback on existing services and suggest improvements. ● Assist in outreach efforts to connect with wider refugee communities. ● Ensure C4C remains accountable and responsive to the needs of people seeking asylum.
Composition
● The board will consist of 5-10 members, all with lived experience of seeking asylum, including but not limited to the UK.
● A Chair will be assigned for each meeting on a rotating basis to lead discussions, take notes, and distribute agendas.
● Membership will reflect diverse perspectives and backgrounds within the wide refugee community.
● We welcome applicants currently residing in the UK or at the Franco-British border.
Roles & Responsibilities
● Attend and actively participate in quarterly online meetings. ● Provide feedback on C4C’s policies, programs, and outreach efforts. ● Represent the perspectives of refugees in discussions with C4C’s leadership. ● Help evaluate and improve services offered by C4C.
● Collaborate with the Board of Trustees to ensure alignment with C4C’s mission.
Support & Development
● C4C will provide necessary technology support and translation services as needed.
● New board members will receive an orientation session on C4C’s mission and structure.
● Training opportunities will be provided on advocacy, policy understanding, and leadership skills.
● Members will have access to mentorship and capacity-building opportunities. Compensation & Recognition
● Members will be reimbursed for travel and additional expenses (e.g., technology support).
● Contributions will be publicly recognised in reports, media, and organisational recommendations (with consent).
Evaluation & Feedback
● An annual review will assess the board’s impact and effectiveness. ● Continuous feedback mechanisms will be established to improve the advisory process.

About the Treasurer Trustee Role
Role Overview
The Treasurer plays a critical role in ensuring the financial health, stability, and accountability of Rebuilding Lives UK. They oversee financial strategy, ensure compliance with financial regulations, and provide guidance on long-term financial sustainability. The Treasurer ensures that financial risks are identified and managed appropriately while making financial information accessible to the board. Trustees are expected to be actively involved in the charity’s work, providing hands-on support where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure financial policies and procedures are followed and regularly reviewed.
- Oversee budgets, financial reporting, and compliance with legal requirements.
- Support financial decision-making and long-term financial planning.
- Work closely with auditors and external financial advisors.
- Monitor financial health, ensuring reserves are maintained and risks mitigated.
- Present financial reports to the board in an accessible, non-technical manner.
- Assist in fundraising strategy development and grant applications where necessary.
- Be actively involved in the charity’s operations where possible, offering financial guidance beyond governance.
- Trustees share collective responsibility for the charity’s governance, ensuring the charity’s mission is achieved and its operations are effective. Trustees support the CEO by contributing to strategic planning, offering expertise, and working together to provide the necessary oversight and direction for the charity’s growth and success.

Mandatory Training Requirement
The Treasurer must complete trustee governance and safeguarding training within the first three months of appointment. Additional training will follow as needed.
Terms of Appointment
Trustees serve an initial one-year term, with the option for renewal up to a maximum of three years.
Voluntary Role
All voluntary roles are subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check.
This is an unpaid remote position (UK Based); however, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
Time Commitment:
- 8 hours per month, including:
- Monthly board meetings (held via Zoom).
- Active involvement in governance and decision-making processes.
- Annual half-day strategy session to contribute to the charity’s direction.
- Engagement in charity activities beyond board meetings, as appropriate.

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Head of Governance & Legal Support to lead the governance and legal functions of Youth Advantage UK. The Head of Governance & Legal Support will oversee compliance, risk management, and legal operations to ensure the charity operates within all applicable regulations and ethical standards. Managing the Governance & Legal Support Manager, this role will also involve developing and implementing governance frameworks that support organisational growth and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
● Manage Governance & Legal Support Team: Provide leadership and guidance to the Governance & Legal Support Manager and ensure the team operates effectively.
● Develop Governance Frameworks: Create and implement policies, procedures, and systems to strengthen the charity’s governance structure.
● Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and ensure adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards, including charity law, data protection, and safeguarding.
● Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks, maintaining a comprehensive risk register and working with leadership to address potential challenges.
● Support the Board of Trustees: Act as a key liaison for the Board, preparing meeting agendas, maintaining minutes, and ensuring timely submission of governance reports.
● Legal Oversight: Manage contracts, agreements, and other legal documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal requirements.
● Training & Development: Provide training and resources to staff and volunteers on governance and compliance matters, ensuring understanding and adherence to policies.
