What's involved?
- Undertake tasks ranging from clearing tables and serving food to washing dishes and supporting behind the counter.
- Use your smile and customer service skills to engage with visitors, share knowledge of the property and generally enhance their visit
- Have a strong working knowledge of our menu, including allergen information, and sharing this with visitors, though any allergy questions should be asked to a team leader, with the support of our allergen book.
- Playing your part to continue our work looking after special places
- Joining an enthusiastic team and making new friends
- Learning and developing a range of skills such as food safety, barista and exceptional service.
- There’s also potential to get involved with the Food & Beverage events calendar.
- You can also opt in to Food and Beverage Buggy training to help deliver freshly baked goods to other outlets on site.

What will I be doing?

Planning and preparing nutritious and appetising meals, tailored to different dietary requirements.

Catering (with support from your team) for 30-50 people at lunchtime.

Alternatively, providing additional smaller meals for patients during respite stays: cooked breakfast, dinner and snacks.

Keeping a clean and organised kitchen, overseeing dishwashing plus sanitising of surfaces and equipment.

Keeping temperature logs, and accurate records of expiry dates and stock levels.

Along with catering colleagues, supporting a great team spirit and a happy environment.
How much time should I give?
Flexible, based on volunteer availability and hospice needs, but on average at least one day a month. Some volunteers choose to commit to frequent regular shifts while others offer their availability monthly or by arrangement to support day hospice, respite services or hospice events.

What do I need to have?

An ability to work well and communicate sensitively within a team, providing instruction and guidance to Catering Assistants.

Be a confident home cook or have experience in professional catering.

Physical stamina as our cooks are on their feet for some time.

Reliability and punctuality since we need to serve meals on time.

An ability to remain calm and adapt to unexpected changes.

What training and support will I be given?
Our Cooks are supported by the Catering Lead and receive induction, training (such as Level 2 Food Hygiene) and ongoing support to ensure they feel confident and capable in their role.

Our Challenge
Brain tumours do not discriminate, and they do not respect boundaries. They can strike anyone, at any age. And they strike quickly. Our Support and Information team offer a wide range of inclusive and accessible peer support services, for anyone affected by a brain tumour. One of our most popular services is our Online Support Groups which offer peer to peer support on Facebook, HealthUnlocked and Instagram. We are looking for volunteers who can manage requests to join our Facebook Support Groups and respond to posts with supportive comments and signposting.
How can you help?
We are looking for volunteers who can manage requests to join our Facebook Support Groups and respond to posts with supportive comments and signposting. This role will continue to facilitate the warm, welcoming and inclusive nature of the support groups by ensuring members are welcomed to the group and posts across our online support groups are responded to by The Charity, where appropriate.
You can get involved in the following:
- Managing Facebook requests
- Creating and maintaining accurate information on our CRM database
- Welcoming new members to the groups and letting them know where they can access support
- Offering peer support by responding to posts Flagging any posts or comments with the group admin if you have any worries or concerns
- Support with additional online tasks that help to deliver the Charity’s Support service
What impact will you have?
We have over 38,000 members of our online support groups and you will play a key role in providing vital support and information signposting to help those affected by a brain tumour diagnosis.

- Experience of using social media platforms, in particular Facebook
- Strong IT and computer skills, ideally experience of using databases
- A high degree of empathy and resilience and an ability to separate own experiences from others, offering support and signposting

Time commitment
We ask volunteers for a regular commitment of at least two hours every a week (during office hours), with the opportunity to offer more time if you would like to. Due to the training involved, we would ask that volunteers are able to commit to a minimum of 6 months volunteering with us.
Practical considerations
This is remote role where you can volunteer from home. You will receive a full induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and any specific training for the role (induction training will take place week commencing 5 January 2026). You will receive ongoing direction from one of the team, who will be your key contact.
We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18. We encourage volunteers to claim for any reasonable expenses that are incurred in the course of their volunteering with the Charity. If we receive a high volume of applications, we may close the role early, so we’d encourage you to apply at your earliest opportunity

- Adaptable and flexible. Things don’t always go to plan. A calm, flexible approach helps maintain a relaxed and safe environment for our sessions to run.
- Ready to get stuck in! Many sessions involve art, music or movement. You don’t need to be an expert, but a willingness to join in and get involved makes a big difference.
Prior to volunteering, we ask all volunteers to:
- Attend an induction meeting
- Provide two references
- Complete a DBS check (we will arrange this)

At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education.
We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient by sharing your first aid skills and knowledge. As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.
Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives.
Through volunteering as a Community First Aider, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time.
We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. - A proven ability to bring strategic oversight and discernment, that will help shape and steward the New Wine’s vision and priorities in pursuit of its mission.
- Strong emotional intelligence, with an ability to lead collaboratively and build consensus to enable effective and unified decision-making.
- Exceptional relational and leadership abilities, with an ability to inspire, influence, and build effective working relationships across the Board and the wider New Wine network.

Do you enjoy driving?
Would you like to make a difference to the people we support in your community?
We are looking for friendly drivers to join us in Metheringham!
You will meet some amazing people, whilst making a positive impact to their lives by driving to places they enjoy and appointments that are important.
We are looking for drivers who will be happy to drive the vehicles owned by the people we support.
Activities will include:
- Driving the people we support between their homes and services in a safe manner, in accordance with UK law.
- Driving around the Metheringham area, which will be the start and end point of the majority of journeys
- Assisting people we support in and out of vehicles and locations – with assistance from trained Dimensions staff.
- Driving in a manner that is sensitive of physical and emotional requirements of the people we support.
- Driving vehicles owned by the people we support
We are looking for drivers who:
- Are aged 21 or over, with at least 2 years driving experience
- Hold a full, clean and current UK Driving License (or equivalent)
- Have the ability to understand verbal and written instructions in relation to journeys
- Are friendly with the people we support and our support staff
- Are willing to commit to volunteer regularly (times and days can be discussed)
A DBS check and two character references will be required for this role.

Dimensions provides support for around 3,500 people with learning disabilities and autism across the UK.
Our volunteers play a vital role in our work and in return, we support them with:
- Access to free online training (with access to 800 plus courses)
