The BDFA, founded in 1998 is the only patient organisation in the UK for families affected by Batten disease, a rare and terminal neurodegenerative condition that affects children and young adults. The BDFA offers informed guidance and support to families and the professionals who work with them, as well as actively raising awareness, and promoting research into the management of Batten disease to improve patient care pathways and ultimately find a cure.

We’re looking for an individual who has some experience in fundraising, particularly leading on all aspects of community fundraising, developing and nurturing relationships with volunteer fundraising groups and individual supporters. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of our CEO to develop community fundraising maximising the funds raised by volunteer fundraisers and developing supporter engagement. The successful candidate will also work alongside our Trusts and Foundations Fundraising Officer to support our Trusts and Foundations income generation.
The Ideal Candidate for this role will have:
- Experience in all aspects of community fundraising including events, assisting fundraisers to develop imaginative fundraising ideas and inspiring new supporters to raise funds whilst maintaining relationships with existing supporters
- Experience in building and sustaining long-term relationships with fundraising groups and individual supporters
- Experience in managing effective and creative fundraising communications on social media and the website
- Ability to contribute to the overall Trusts and Foundations income stream, including proactively researching and identifying grant funding opportunities
- Ability to lead on creative fundraising campaigns around key events such as Batten disease awareness day and Christmas

The role is full time (35 hours per week) and is home based with occasional travel around the UK to meet donors and support fundraising events.

The Role

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People has been creating life-changing partnerships between hearing dogs and deaf recipients since 1982. As well as acting as an ear to their partners and alerting them to sounds, the charity’s clever and expertly trained dogs help deaf people to live life with confidence and independence, whilst providing love, companionship and emotional support.
Following on from a strategic review, the charity is now building a new Income Generation Directorate, to enable them to transform many more lives across the UK. This role will be critical to help Hearing Dogs reach their goals to diversify income, grow their philanthropy programme and increase engagement and impact.
Reporting to the Head of Trusts and Foundations, this role will work as part of a small but high department to deliver objectives and income targets. The role will deputise for the Head of Trusts and Foundations as required and support in the development of the strategy for the department, working across the organisation with colleagues, senior staff, trustees and external trusts and foundation contacts. A key focus of the role will be making bids and writing applications to maximise financial support from charitable trusts and foundations in a team which has a target of £1.15m in 2025-26, growing to £2.1m by 2029-30.
The ideal candidates will have a substantial background in Trusts and Foundation fundraising within the charity sector and experience of delivering excellent stewardship with external stakeholders. You will have experience of large scale and complex (£ six/seven figure) bid writing for specific projects over multiple years. Galapagos Conservation Trust (GCT) is looking for a proactive individual with good storytelling skills to produce fundraising applications and reports that inspire. As part of GCT’s Fundraising & Communications team, you will work closely with the Senior Development Manager to secure grant funding from Trusts & Foundations across our programme portfolio (including island restoration, community resilience, ocean protection and plastic pollution topics), with an increasing focus on securing multi-year funding to embed sustainability in our programme delivery.
You will be a great writer, researcher and comfortable working with numbers, enabling you to identify new fundraising opportunities and develop engaging proposals and reports with clear budgets. You will also be an organised individual with great attention to detail, ensuring you can effectively balance your time across competing deadlines and tasks.
We are looking for someone with:

1-2 years proven experience in Trusts & Foundations fundraising.

Experience working with budgets in Excel.

Experience of working with a database and managing contact lists and records.
Key responsibilities:

Increasing restricted & unrestricted income from Trusts & Foundations in line with GCT’s fundraising strategy with the Senior Development Manager

Supporting keeping our database, internal documents and files up-to-date and GDPR compliant for Trusts & Foundations and external contacts.

Producing high quality proposals and reports, ensuring consultation of key GCT team members and partners in their development, and submitting these to meet all deadlines.

Support the Senior Development Manager with applications for multi-year grants, such as writing and budget inputs, Theory of Change inputs and organising supplementary materials.

Helping to maintain excellent relationships with existing funders via bespoke outreach and thank you letters, project updates as appropriate, and semi-regular communications on GCT materials/events.

Proactively researching potential funders and supporting the Senior Development Manager and Senior Leadership Team members on their cultivation.

Reviewing fundraising success from Trusts & Foundations and developing annual fundraising plans with the Senior Development Manager.

Supporting the Senior Development Manager with Trusts & Foundations income and fundraising pipeline updates to GCT’s Senior Leadership Team and Trustees as required.

When grants are successful, lead or support the Senior Development Manager with handover actions to the Programmes team to ensure project budgets, timelines and donor expectations are clear.

Job Description
About the role
The Head of Fundraising and Communications will lead the development and delivery of a systematic, data-driven, and project-managed approach to fundraising and communications — driving sustainable income growth and raising the charity’s profile and influence.
As the charity’s strategic lead for fundraising, they will shape and expand our income streams, strengthen systems and processes, and build a high-performing team to help us reach more young people with our vital work. They will also lead on external communications and storytelling, ensuring our narrative is compelling, consistent, and rooted in the powerful impact of our programmes.
While this role will oversee a team of three, the postholder will be hands-on and deeply involved in the systems and practices they implement, ensuring excellence in both strategy and delivery.
This newly created role is a key position on the Senior Leadership Team, working closely with the CEO, Deputy CEO, and Head of Programmes to deliver The Ben Kinsella Trust’s vision and strategy.
As part of a small charity making a big impact, you will play a central role in ensuring Ben’s legacy continues to educate, empower, and inspire thousands more young people across London and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for all fundraising activity, ensuring a systematic and dependable approach to income generation.
- Develop and deliver a long-term fundraising strategy that supports sustainable growth and diversification across grants & trusts, corporate donors, major donors, individual giving and community fundraising.
- Build and manage relationships with key funders and donors, working with the CEO and Fundraising Manager to cultivate and steward major partnerships.
- Maintain oversight and final sign-off of major and high-value funding applications to grants & trusts, corporate donors and major donors, ensuring they are well-structured, hold a compelling narrative, and are of the highest quality.
- Implement systems, processes, and KPIs to monitor performance, track pipelines, and drive continuous improvement.
- Provide strategic fundraising insight and reporting to the Senior Leadership Team and Board.
Senior Leadership Team
- Play a full and active role as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to organisational strategy, decision-making, and culture.

Experience
- Experience in a senior fundraising role, with a track record of developing and delivering successful income generation strategies.
- Demonstrable experience in managing and overseeing complex fundraising applications across a variety of funders or for a broad and diverse funder base

- Experience managing budgets and working closely with finance colleagues on planning and forecasting.
