The European Network on Statelessness (ENS) is a civil society alliance of organisations and individuals working to promote the right to a nationality in Europe. Our network brings together over 180 members in more than 40 countries. Since establishing in 2012, we have been dedicated to raising awareness about statelessness and the right to a nationality, supporting legal and policy development, and building civil society’s capacity to act. Our secretariat team of 9 is based in the UK, our Board of Trustees includes individuals based in the UK and across Europe.

We are a fully digital and paperless team, using MS365 and a CRM. We have developed and maintain innovative digital tools like the Statelessness Index (which analyses and compares how European countries are protecting stateless people and taking steps to end statelessness) and the Statelessness Caselaw Database (the first database containing case law related to statelessness in Europe, a vital tool for legal practitioners). Now we're looking forward to harnessing technology like AI and more, to continue to innovate in our work to end statelessness and protect people without a nationality.

At The Advocacy Academy, we envision a world where young people with lived experience of injustice (LEofI) harness their collective power to shape a more fair, just, and equal society. We’re now looking to a Finance Trustee to join our Board and help steer this work. We're especially keen to hear from people with leadership experience in the following area: Finance & Fundraising.

Trustees of The Advocacy Academy play a unique role in delivery of our mission. They are collectively responsible for the governance of the organisation, represent it to the community, and accept ultimate compliance authority for the charity and its activities. As a Trustee with experience in the UK’s youth sector, you will support the Board and the Executives in ensuring that TAA continues to deliver an exceptional quality of youth work, and the role that safeguarding plays in achieving this. As a trustee:

• Work with the Chair, Trustees and Senior Leadership team to ensure there is a clear, long-term and strategic vision The Advocacy Academy.
• Work with the Board to ensure we function within the legal and financial requirements of a UK registered charity and company, our constitution and that we strive for best practice
• Take responsibility with the other trustees so that the organisation has effective practice to safeguard the people it works with
• Act as an ambassador, spokesperson and champion our work supporting our income activities, and fostering networks that can help generate income.

About Our Board of Trustees

• Our Board currently consists of four members, recruited, selected, and approved by the Board of Trustees.
• Each trustee serves a three-year term, and we are made up of individuals from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities.
• The Board meets quarterly (four times per year) to provide strategic oversight and governance. Operations/day to day are managed by the Executives.
• Given the size of the board, we expect all trustees to join at least one subcommittees meeting per year, unless there are extenuating circumstances. .The subcommittee meets are typically held prior to full Board meetings.
• Board meetings are held at our Liberation Centre in Brixton and subcommittee meets are held virtually
• The role of trustee is voluntary, though reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
• Trustees are expected to prepare in advance by reading reports and meeting papers, and are also warmly invited to attend our events throughout the year.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Finance Trustee - Will provide charity financial governance oversight of The Advocacy Academy, including but not limited to: Working closely with our Finance Director and the Finance & Risk Committee will:

• Provide support on financial oversight and ensure compliance with relevant charity and regulatory requirements.
• Review and co-present financial reports and key insights to the Board of Trustees.
• Actively participate in the Finance and Risk Committee, ensuring effective financial scrutiny.
• Strategic contribution to long-term financial and fundraising planning and support the organisation’s risk management framework.
• Attend Finance and Risk subcommittee meetings quarterly.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

• Proven expertise in charity fundraising and financial management.
• Experience of charity finance and fundraising is essential.
• Previous board or trustee experience.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.

EXPECTATIONS & ENTITLEMENT

• Attend at least one training programme that we run, so that you understand the work we deliver
• Attend trustee meetings, which are held four times a year in London or virtually, and last between 3 expected to attend at least three each year.
• Participate in one of our sub-committees as may be required by the trustee role.
• Demonstrate commitment to The Advocacy Academy by supporting fundraising efforts.
• Serve for a term of three years and be able to stand for re-election for a further term and possibly two.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure that ABandOfBrothers pursues its objectives
• Ensure that ABandOfBrothers applies its resources carefully and responsibly
• Contribute actively to the Board of Trustees' role in direction to ABandOfBrothers – setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and measuring performance
• Keep the young men we exist to support at the heart of decision making
• Ensure that ABandOfBrothers complies with the various legislation relating to charities
• Safeguard the good name and values of ABandOfBrothers
• Ensure the effective administration of ABandOfBrothers
• Ensure the financial stability of ABandOfBrothers
• Protect and manage the property of the charity and ensure the proper investment of the charity's funds

In addition, all Trustees should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions and provide honest and constructive criticism, advice and comments.

Further duties

• Support our staff to improve operations by bringing specialist knowledge and skills, contacts and networks and experience on different aspects of the operations as required

What We're Looking For

We aim for our Trustee Board as a group to have a mix of skills and backgrounds. Ultimately, we want to find people who are committed to ABandOfBrothers’s mission and who have the time to meaningfully engage at board level. Some additional things we're looking out for this time include:

• Lived experience of the care system or experience of the care system from your working life
• Lived experience of the criminal justice system (this might be your own experience, but could also be that of a partner or family member) or experience of the criminal justice system from your working life
• Experience of HR and employment law
• A background in successful charity fundraising or a network that you are happy to share to further our fundraising efforts

Time commitment

Our Board meets four-six times a year, for about three hours. Trustees also provide support and advice to the leadership team between meetings on subjects from fundraising to programmes. We are happy to pay travel and childcare expenses to enable Trustees to attend.

Trustees are normally appointed for four years. This term is sometimes then extended for a further four years to a maximum term of eight years.

There's a small range of offences-  mainly fraud, sexual offences and terrorism-related offences – which can currently disqualify some people with unspent convictions from serving as a charity Trustee. We’ll arrange an informal chat with one of our trustees to discuss.

Key responsibilities

Student Minds Trustees are expected to commit to the following: 

• Preparation and attendance at four board meetings a year. Board meetings are held online and take place on weekdays from 5 - 7.30 pm. 

• Preparation and attendance at two board away days each year, usually from 12.30 - 5 pm. Board away days are in person and usually take place in Leeds. Travel expenses can be claimed.

• Ad-hoc meetings and conversations with the senior management team as required. This usually constitutes approximately a further five working days a year.

Trustee vacancy: UK Bangladesh Education Trust (UKBET)

Founded in 1993, the UK Bangladesh Education Trust [UKBET], a UK registered charity and international NGO registered in Bangladesh, is looking for one or two new dynamic trustees to join our board, supporting the charity’s mission to help end child labour in Bangladesh.  

Our Doorstep Learning Programme engages and supports child domestic workers (95% girls) and their families. Trained and supported community teachers provide three individual or small group literacy, numeracy and life skills sessions for these working children as well as signposting for their families. A key aim is to support the children’s progression out of child labour to school or, for older children to vocational training. UKBET’s Family Futures microgrants address the root causes of child labour – family poverty.  Parents can use these grants to start or continue small businesses to increase their family income, removing the need to send their children to work and enabling them to join school or, for older working children, vocational training.

Our work is funded through charitable donations, fundraising and grants.

The UK Board of Trustees set the direction for the charity and support the work of the Executive Director and his team who also benefit from an Advisory Group based in Sylhet, Bangladesh.  We meet on line three or four times a year, and as needed, plus try to have an annual in person away day meeting. There are currently four experienced Trustees with a range of expertise across finance, income generation and education. We are seeking one or two new Trustees to join us, ideally leading in one or more of the following areas:

Organisation Structure

The board of trustees provides strategic oversight and governance to the Executive team, who manage day to day operations. Trustees work collaboratively with the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team, offering guidance while respecting operational independence

Commitment

Trustees are expected to attend all board meetings which are scheduled to accommodate trustee’s availability. Most meetings are done via video conferencing, and on occasion we meet in person at a suitable location. Individual commitments are agreed between each trustee and the Chair of the board.

War Memorials Trust works to protect and conserve the nation's 100,000 war memorials. It is looking for new Trustees, with the right skills, experience, enthusiasm and commitment, to join the Board and help guide the charity's efforts.

A skills audit has identified key areas of expertise that the Board needs to enhance as

• fundraising expertise to ensure we are here for the long term 
• legal expertise to support the charity deliver its objectives appropriately

This role is home based with board meetings rotating between in-person at the London office and online, although all can be joined online. Some attendance at events or visits to war memorials may be undertaken. Reasonable expenses related to the role will be available. Minimum engagement is for four, two-hour board meetings per year (plus reading of papers beforehand). Additional input will be welcomed and Trustees may be approached by staff, on a collective or an individual basis, between meetings, particularly in relation to their expertise.

Pharmacy Research UK is the principal research charity supporting pharmacy professionals to develop research skills and lead research to improve healthcare for the benefit of patients and the public.

We fund research projects and individual bursaries, working to improve skills across the pharmacy sector, to provide an evidence-base to improve the practice of pharmacy, to highlight the vital role of pharmacy in our health services and ultimately to improve public health. 

We are looking to recruit two new trustees to join our board as we look to grow and develop this fantastic small charity.PRUK is run by a small but dedicated staff team, with oversight from our trustee board. Anyone can be a trustee and we welcome all applications to join our board. We always seek to maintain a good balance of skills and experiences on the board and so are particularly interested to receive applications from people with experience in academia, pharmacy, fundraising and the voluntary sector, and / or finance and accounting. We also want to ensure that our board is representative of the community we serve and so encourage applications from female candidates and candidates from black and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, and from candidates across all nations of the UK.

NYJO is dedicated to making jazz and creative music-making more accessible to early-career musicians, young people, and audiences across the country. Emerging Professionals - We curate exciting performance projects for audiences and emerging professional musicians aged 18-25, underpinned by a programme of Professional Development.

NYJO Learning - We create accessible learning programmes for all, providing young people with impactful tools for personal growth through creative music-making.

Community Outreach - We are passionate about responding to and representing our communities, both locally and nationally, in physical and digital spaces.

We work in close collaboration with likeminded partners to deliver projects that respond to local community needs and create an inclusive learning environment which centres the voices of young people.

In 2021 we became a Resident Artistic Company at Woolwich Works, a creative arts centre in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. We are a registered charity with a turnover of c.£750,000 annually and are proud to be an Arts Council England (ACE) National Portfolio Organisation, working towards delivering ACE's 'Let's Create' strategy to make the arts sector more inclusive and reflective of modern Britain.

Our Board

NYJO's current Board consists of seven Trustees with expertise spanning digital communications, governance, HR, jazz industry knowledge, music education, finance, and fundraising. We are pleased to have diversified our board significantly in recent years, knowing that diverse boards make better decisions. Ensuring that our board is representative of the communities in which we work and the young people that we serve remains a priority.

Board Responsibilities

NYJO Trustees are expected to play a full role as a board director and trustee in accordance with charity and company regulations, and governance best practice. Responsibilities include:

• Providing strategic direction, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets, and evaluating performance against agreed targets
• Maintaining a collaborative and supportive relationship with senior staff and fellow trustees
• Proactively advocating for our work, championing the transformative power of jazz education and the many benefits that young people derive from creative music-making
• Safeguarding the financial stability, reputation and values of the charity
• Protecting the interest of donors and current and future beneficiaries, acting as guardians of NYJO's assets and taking due care over their security, deployment and proper application
• Ensuring that NYJO complies with its Articles and Objects, charity and company law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations

What We're Looking For

We are keen to recruit Trustees who:

• Are committed to NYJO's mission and will advocate for our work
• Bring strategic judgement, vision and creative thinking to the charity
• Can provide sound, independent reasoning and constructive challenge to our management team
• Are numerate, with the ability to understand budgets and charity finance
• Are willing to devote the necessary time and effort to be a Trustee, and to undertake relevant training and appraisal
• Demonstrate an understanding of good governance of charities
• Demonstrate the intellectual capacity to grasp issues outside personal experience and communicate opinions effectively

We are keen for our trustees to represent a broad mix of skills, experience and backgrounds, helping us to broaden our thinking and provide constructive challenge. At this time, our priority is to appoint an individual with professional experience as a UK based jazz musician, as this perspective will complement our current board's existing expertise and help ensure our leadership reflects the communities and artists we support.

We are committed to broadening the diversity of perspectives on our Board. We particularly encourage applications from women, younger people, and individuals from groups that are currently underrepresented at board level. All appointments will be made on merit.

You do not need to have prior trustee experience. Where needed, we will provide guidance and support to help first-time trustees thrive in the role.

In addition to professional jazz music experience, we would also be interested in candidates with demonstrable experience in music law or marketing, particularly digital marketing and social media. There is no expectation that applicants must meet more than one of these areas of expertise.

Time Commitment

Trustees are expected to attend all board meetings (four per year) and an annual strategic planning session. Additionally, you may be invited to join working groups according to your areas of expertise and interest and will always be welcome to attend our performances and education events.

Founded in 1997, the Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants provides a place for refugees, migrants, and people seeking asylum to rebuild their life with support and community. From classes to casework to financial assistance, the Centre has a wide offering available for our community of over 200 people. Our approach is compassionate and human and the support we offer is long term - on average people stay with us around four years.

The current Board brings a wide range of charity and public body experience including strategy and fundraising and we are looking for skills to both enhance and complement these strengths.

The Centre has a dedicated and talented staff team led by our CEO, Andy Ruiz Palma, who joined in 2000 as an English teacher. In addition to this staff resource we have around 40 volunteers who provide direct support through activities. We also have in place accountancy support to the executive and a dedicated fundraising team.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a strong empathy with our client group and who understand how to work with organisations rooted in a local community. You will bring excellent people and communication skills and demonstrate good team-working.

We are open to applications from people looking for their first Trustee role or who may not have considered being a Trustee before and will provide mentoring to help trustees find their feet.

We are looking to recruit a deputy treasurer with:

A good understanding of financial management and reporting

A recognised accounting, finance or similar qualification

Ability to analyse and communicate financial information to the wider Board

Willingness to provide financial advice and support to the management team as needed

Knowledge and experience of fundraising finance practice in voluntary and community organisations (desirable)

Location: Remote, with one in-person Board meeting per year
Commitment: Approx. 1–2 days per month

As Britain’s leading animal welfare campaigning charity, we expose cruelty, protect animals and drive legislative and cultural change. From helping to secure the landmark Hunting Act 2004 to tackling new and emerging forms of cruelty, our work is fuelled by compassion, evidence and impact.

We are now seeking new Trustees to join our Board at this pivotal time — people who can help guide our strategy, strengthen our governance and ensure the League continues to be a powerful voice for animals.

As a Trustee, you will:

You’ll bring:

• Strategic thinking, sound judgment and the ability to analyse complex information to make evidence-based decisions.
• Experience of operating at a senior or strategic level, ideally within a board or governance setting.
• A commitment to the principles of good governance and the Seven Principles of Public Life (selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership).

Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential – we value diversity of thought, background and experience.

Time commitment

• One in-person Board meeting per year and three virtual meetings, plus an Annual General Meeting.
• Additional engagement between meetings as needed (approximately 1–2 days per month).

Trustee positions are unremunerated, with reasonable expenses reimbursed.
