Trustee treasurer volunteer roles

The Bromley Experts by Experience Secretary will play a vital role, working with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chair of Trustees. You will help the Trustee Board carry out their duties in an efficient manner, ensuring all governance documents and procedures are followed. The Secretary will ensure the smooth and efficient running of accessible trustee board meetings and will be the Trustee responsible for leading preparation, administration, and delivery of the AGM.

The Secretary will ensure the trustees recognise and complete relevant actions related to their decisions, and that all decisions made by the trustees comply with the relevant legislative and regulatory requirements the charity is subject to, are in accordance with Bromley Experts by Experience’s governing documents, reflect the aims of the charity, and continue to provide benefit to our members, beneficiaries and local Deaf and Disabled people.

Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chair of Trustees, the Secretary will ensure the charity meets all its regulatory requirements, has strong governance and foundations to enable Bromley Experts by Experience to achieve as much as we can in future.

IMPORTANT: As a Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation, our governing articles require that our staff, trustees and volunteers bring with them lived experience of disability (self-identified or otherwise). See how we define this below.

Responsibilities of the Secretary:

• Prepare agendas in consultation with the Chair and CEO.
• Ensure arrangements for meetings are met including hybrid arrangements and access requirements of attendees.
• Receive agenda items from other Trustees and circulate agendas and any supporting papers in good time.
• Check that quorum is present at each meeting (including hybrid attendance)
• Minute meetings, circulate draft minutes and action points to Board members.
• Ensure the Chair signs (electronic or wet) minutes once approved.
• Check Trustees have carried out action(s) agreed.
• Circulate agendas and minutes of the annual general meeting (AGM) and any special or extraordinary general meetings.
• Ensure up-to-date records are kept of Trustee Board membership.
• Ensure the board fulfils their duties and responsibilities for effective charity governance in line with Bromley Experts by Experience’s policies and the requirements of the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

• Ensure X by X Bromley activities benefit its members and beneficiaries.
• Support and advocate for X by X Bromley’s mission, vision and values.

What we ask of you:

• The Secretary should expect to serve for a minimum of 12 months.
• The Secretary is required to attend scheduled meetings with some ad hoc meetings where necessary.
• It is anticipated that the time commitment will be an approximate average 2.5 hours per week. This will mainly comprise of:
  • Board meeting attendance (plus preparation and minutes) every 8 weeks.
  • AGM attendance (plus preparation and minutes)
  • Supporting our annual Disability Pride event.
  • Occasional scheduled meetings with senior staff and/or Chair.
• As we are a very small charity, there could be occasions when extra time will be required (e.g. during the planning of new projects or dealing with any particular difficulties that arise), or where additional support would be appreciated (e.g. attending events, meeting members at project days).

The Secretary must be legally eligible to stand as a registered Company Director and Charity Trustee. Having had previous experience as a trustee of a voluntary organisation is an advantage.

The Secretary will require a DBS Check to be completed.

BEING A TRUSTEE

As with any charity, trustees have overall responsibility for making sure it is running well and is doing what it was set up to do. This includes ensuring the charity:

· Spends its money sensibly on the activities it was raised for

· Does not break the rules in its Articles - the charity’s governing document

· Continues to meet our commitments to the communities we serve in accordance with our charitable objectives

· Follows the law, including preparing reports and accounts to send to the Charity Commission

A NEW TREASURER

Our current Treasurer has been serving on the Board since 2021 and has supported the organisation through a difficult economic climate and has helped shape and improve the way in which trustees monitor income and spend through a system of key performance indicators that are reported on.  His commitment, time and financial knowledge he has brought to the role has been valued and made our financial reporting more robust over the years.  Upon stepping down the incumbent is willing to support the incoming treasurer over a period of time to ensure a smooth transition into the organisation.

We are therefore seeking an experienced and committed individual to join the Board and take up the role of Treasurer.  Ideally someone who lives or works in the borough but more importantly has an understanding of charity finances and has possibly had a previous role as Treasurer.

The Treasurer Role primarily is as follows:

· Overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts and financial statements

· Making sure that the financial resources of KCSC meet its present and future needs

· Ensuring that KCSC has an appropriate Reserves and Investment policy

· Preparing and presenting financial reports to the Finance & Personnel Sub Committee and the Board in collaboration with the CEO and Director of Operations

· Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place and are compliant

· Advising on the financial implications of KCSC’s strategic plans

· Keeping the Finance and Personnel Sub Committee and the Board informed of its financial duties, responsibilities and obligations

· Advising on the preparation / submission of financial reports to funders and the Charity Commission

· Overseeing and advising on financial risk and financial management of KCSC

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience of charity accounting and able to provide guidance on ensuring the organisation adheres to charity accounting principles and policies.  Previous experience of being on a charity board  would be preferable although not essential.  However, a commitment to the furtherance of the voluntary and community sector and its role within civil society and subscribing to our stated mission and values is important.

THE COMMITMENT

The Treasurer will need to commit to attending a total of 8 Board/Sub Committee meetings a year as well as spending a few hours each month on attending additional internal meetings with CEO/Director of Operations/Chair on financial matters.

What happens next?

The organisation provides life skills, training, and work experience, while working in partnership with young people to drive meaningful change across mental health services, justice, and social services. The Role

Peer Power Youth is seeking a Trustee with responsibility for overseeing all financial aspects of the charity on behalf of the Board. This individual will advise the Board on financial matters, safeguarding both the short- and long-term financial stability of the organisation. They will ensure effective internal financial controls, oversee risk management, and guarantee that accurate, insightful financial information is shared internally and externally as required.

As a Trustee, they will also contribute to shaping the charity’s strategic direction, ensuring strong governance and a continued commitment to Peer Power Youth’s objectives and values.

About It’s Time:

It’s Time is a charity created by and for young adults who have experienced the death of a parent. Founded by people who know this grief first-hand, the charity ensures no one aged 18–35 has to navigate such loss alone. Through peer-led support, events, free group therapy, and tailored resources, It’s Time offers connection and understanding during an often isolating time. The charity also partners with universities, workplaces, and families to promote better bereavement support - recognising that grief doesn’t follow a timeline, and the help offered to young adults shouldn’t either.

The charity was founded in 2021 and we now run local peer support groups throughout England, have a year long waiting list for our group therapy and supports around 500 people in the online community.  We recognise that as we grow our needs and those of our community are changing and are looking for someone skilled in charity growth to steer us into the next phase of our development.

About the Role
We’re looking for a skilled and committed Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and lead the financial stewardship of our growing charity. This is a vital voluntary role for someone with strong financial expertise who wants to make a meaningful difference in a purpose-driven organisation.

As Treasurer, you will ensure the financial health, integrity, and sustainability of the charity – guiding strategy, overseeing controls, and making sure the Board understands its financial responsibilities. Term
The Treasurer will serve a three-year term, with the option to renew for one additional term.

As a Trustee at NSDAS with a focus on the Treasurer role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the financial stability and integrity of the charity. You will work closely with the Board of Trustees CEO and Finance Manager to oversee the financial management of the charity, providing strategic guidance and ensuring compliance with certain regulatory requirements.

North Surrey Domestic Abuse Service (NSDAS) supports anyone affected by domestic abuse and their children living in the boroughs of Elmbridge, Spelthorne and Epsom and Ewell. We provide free, confidential and independent advice, skilled practical help and ongoing emotional support and information, regardless of sex, race, ability, gender, religion or income level.

We are looking to recruit a Volunteer for the position of Treasurer who can oversee & support the Board, CEO & the Business & Central Services Manager on the financial management aspects of Leeway Domestic Violence and Abuse Services, from supporting with the financial forecasting, budgets & management account analysis, as well as all other financial related tasks and duties that the charity needs.

You must have previous experience in a financial role such as in Accounting and a good understanding of charities. You must be committed and dedicated to the role and the charity, ensuring any deadlines are met.

• Charity Accounting: 2 years (Preferred)

Volunteer Treasurer Role Description

The responsibilities of the Treasurer at board level are to:

• Liaise with finance staff and with the organisation’s independent examiner or auditor, in order to ensure that the organisation keeps proper accounts, in compliance with Companies House and Charity Commission regulations.

• Chair the finance sub-committee meetings, who are responsible for: -

• Reviewing the organisation’s financial performance.

Trustees play a vital role in ensuring Airdrie Foodbank meets its core purpose by overseeing the management and administration of the charity and ensuring that the foodbank has a clear strategy in line with our vision and goals.

What will you be doing?

Trustees have collective responsibility for the governance of the organisation and for all decisions made by the Board. They set the strategic direction for the organisation, ensuring alignment to our values, and are responsible for setting organisational policy, defining goals, agreeing the financial plan, evaluating performance, and ensuring that strong relationships are maintained between the Trustees and the Management & Volunteer Team.

Key tasks:

• To manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk and not over-commit the charity.
• To ensure the board regularly reviews its structures, roles, relationship to staff and implementing changes if and when necessary.
• To develop a long-term strategy for the food bank with clear objectives which can be monitored and adapted.
• To work alongside the Treasurer and the board to ensure the organisation’s financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined (on income over £25k) and made publicly available when necessary.
• To ensure the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law.
• To ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
• To help promote the organisation to a wide audience of potential funders and beneficiaries and community stakeholders.
• To ensure the food bank has appropriate procedures to: comply with current legislation and good practice; including employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
• To act with reasonable care and skill, giving your time, thought and energy to your role.
• To prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.
• To provide ad hoc support to the staff team and volunteers from time to time.
• To act at all times in accordance with the foodbank’s trustee code of conduct.

Trustees may also undertake additional work for the charity between meetings subject to their availability and skill set.

Treasurer role and responsibility

This is a fantastic opportunity to use your financial skills to make a meaningful impact within our charity.

As Treasurer, you’ll play a key role in overseeing our financial health, helping to ensure we remain sustainable and accountable as we deliver our mission.

You will attend bi-monthly trustee meetings (c.90 minutes each) – most of these take place online, with three in-person meetings held each year in Kirkstall. Meetings take place on a Monday, 5 - 6:30pm. 

In addition to attending trustee meetings you will:

• Ensure that income is acknowledged and allocated to the correct heading.

• Book keeping roughly 2 hours per month, bank to accounts, allocating transactions, labelling and filing evidence.

• Ensure expenditure has been properly incurred, payments are made and similarly allocated and cashflow maintained.

• Provide the trustee board with a quarterly report on the accounts including a projection for the year ahead (rolling management accounts).

• Produce the annual accounts subject to independent examination by an accountant .

• Work with the CEO and some trustees to develop income growth plans.

• Contribute to the maintenance of financial policies.

• Advise the Board of regulation and tax implications as the turnover grows.

We are a small charity and so the volume of bank transactions is relatively low with 3 – 10 online authorisations per month. Payroll is contracted to Voluntary Action Leeds. There would be a transition period and handover/shared duties with our current treasurer. This is an unpaid trustee role – expenses incurred in undertaking the role will be reimbursed.

est Cheshire Foodbank was established in 2012 to provide emergency food to people in crisis. We are part of the Trussell network of foodbanks and last financial year we provided food to 14,500 people in the 12 months to March 2025. We can only do this with the commitment of our volunteers, our small, dedicated staff team and the much-valued support of local businesses, organisations and individuals.

We are now looking for two new trustees, with relevant experience, who share our vision for a future without the need for foodbanks. You do not need previous experience as a trustee to apply for these roles.

We welcome applications from people from all backgrounds and experience, particularly those who have lived experience of financial hardship and/or food insecurity. The successful candidates will be provided with an induction, training and support to help establish themselves in their roles.

Our Purpose is

1. to provide relief to individuals and families in crisis in West Cheshire, through the provision of emergency food supplies.
2. to provide practical, mental and spiritual support either directly or by referral to approved partner agencies to enable individuals and families avoid future crises.
3. to raise awareness of the causes of food poverty and to encourage both policy-makers and local people to take action.

Specific responsibilities Governance Trustee

• Ensuring WCFB is legally compliant with regulatory requirements in law.
• Advising and assisting Trustees and staff on all matters related to the charity’ compliance with charity law and other relevant legislation
• Ensure that all charitable activities undertaken by the charity are compliant with its charitable objectives as set out in the governing document
• Ensure all activities, processes and procedures of the Board of Trustees and the charity are consistent with the requirements of the governing document
• Acting as the principal contact with the Charity Commission for England and Wales
• Maintaining the Register of Trustees and informing the Charity Commission of any changes to it in good time
• Ensuring that all Trustees are eligible to serve in that capacity
• Ensuring that the Annual Report and Statement of Accounts of the Charity are submitted in good time to the Charity Commission
• Drafting the Annual Report of the Trustees for approval by the Board of Trustees
• Ensuring that proper records of the Board of Trustees are maintained
• Oversight of all matters related to GDPR and Data Protection
• Ensure that all legally required policies and procedures are in place and maintained appropriately
• Ensuring that any agreements entered into by the charity with other agencies or partners are compliant with charity law and the charitable objectives of the charity as well as fully protecting the interests of the charity
• If and when necessary, drafting any amendments and updates to the governing document of the charity including its charitable objectives and ensuring that the proper procedures for these to be brought into effect are implemented.

In order to carry out these duties, the Trustee will need to become familiar with the generalities of charity law, and how to interact with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, the Information Commissioner's Office, the Trussell Trust and the support available from Trust Advice who are the Trussell Trust’s Governance partner.

General responsibilities of all WCFB Trustees

• Work alongside the Treasurer and the trustee board to ensure WCFB’s financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined (on income over £25k) and made publicly available as necessary
• Ensure WCFB is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and charity law reporting requirements
• Ensure that all charitable activities undertaken by WCFB are compliant with its charitable objectives as set out in its governing document
• Ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects
• Understand and commit to WCFB’s strategic direction and mission
• Contribute to the development and review of WCFB’s strategic plan, ensuring it aligns with the needs of people struggling to afford the essentials
• Help promote the organisation to a wider audience of potential funders, partners and people experiencing financial hardship and food insecurity
• Ensure WCFB has appropriate procedures in place to comply with current legislation and good practice including: employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc
• Act with reasonable care and skill, giving time, thought and energy to fulfil your role
• To serve as an additional promoter of the food bank in the community
• Attend trustee meetings and produce feedback and reports as necessary
• Ensure decisions are informed by people experiencing financial hardship by working in a participatory and inclusive way at board level
• Demonstrate empathy and a non-judgemental attitude

Biddulph Youth and Community Zone are seeking a Treasurer to join our dedicated Board of Trustees.

BYCZ is a registered community benefit society with charitable status. We work to create a safe, warm, and inclusive environment for young people, families, and the wider community, supporting personal development through confidence and resilience building. We host sessions for young people through our youth club, provide guidance and support for older community members, and have a range of targeted activities and a community food project. Over 4,000 local people access the Centre each year.
