Trustee Volunteer Roles in Ealing, Greater London
What does a Trustee look like?
Look in the mirror!
Right now, less than 3% of charity Trustees are under 30, 8% are people of colour and 36% are women. We are looking for people from across the UK and are keen to recruit trustees from all nations in the UK.
We value the many skills and experiences that you can bring to the Marine Conservation Society. We are committed to a Board culture that enables everyone to be their authentic selves and to enjoy the Trustee experience.
We believe that becoming a Trustee with us will be a rewarding journey for you – we want you to share your experience, your fresh perspectives, and we will listen to your views.
It’s a critical time for our ocean. There is not a moment to waste. Our goal is to recover the health of our ocean so it can help with healing our climate; to make seas protected in law to be protected in practice; and to stop the tide of plastic that’s getting into our waters.
Our Board needs people with a range of backgrounds, life stages, experiences, and skills who come together as a team to offer challenge and energy to one another, and to boost our ability to deliver for our ocean.
By joining as a Trustee, you will help navigate us through the risks and opportunities that we meet.
We want our organisation and Board to be reflective of our society. We recognise that we should all have the opportunity to take responsibility to protect our ocean for the future, so we are particularly interested in applications from groups which are typically under-represented on Boards. You can read our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Statement here.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion are essential to achieving ocean recovery so everyone can expect to be treated with consideration and respect in an atmosphere without prejudice, discrimination, harassment or violence.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for people to join our Board with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
-
Finance – you might be a qualified accountant and have a background in finance and audit so that you can provide vital skills to help the Board oversee our financial management. An understanding of charity accounts and regulations would absolutely be an advantage.
-
Marketing & Communications – we want to reach new audiences to ensure a diverse and inclusive approach, and we are aiming to do that at scale. You may have experience of providing strategic support for increasing our reach and visibility.
-
Marine Conservation - you might have environmental knowledge, ideally on the marine environment, with policy and/or practical experience of conservation. A network of contacts across the marine sector, particularly with business or government, would be an advantage.
What you can bring to our Board can be just as interesting as where you’ve been working. You do not need to have previous charity trustee experience, but you will need to be comfortable participating at a senior level with complex discussions and the need to be comfortable making pragmatic but key decisions.
Why join our board?
Being a Trustee can be a challenge, but it’s also a brilliant opportunity for you to develop your skills, work as part of a team that shapes the direction of our charity in making tangible changes for the future of our ocean and planet. If you’re passionate about what we do, then you’ll feel the same excitement we have in making those changes happen.
You don’t need to understand everything that we do or know the Latin names of fish, or in most cases, even to have experience of the charity sector. As a Trustee, you’ll develop your personal and professional knowledge, work on strategy and develop an approach to managing risk and broaden your influencing and negotiation skills in a new context.
You’ll also gain insight and knowledge from your fellow Trustees, with everyone’s skills being recognised and valued.
Trustees are volunteers, so the role is not paid but we will cover your costs for travelling and any overnight stays to attend meetings or events.
Application and selection process
We value the knowledge and experiences that you will bring to Marine Conservation Society, and they may have been developed in a range of ways, and by many routes.
We understand that the application process can be difficult if you have a condition or disability that you live with. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to shine during your application process, so please let us know what we can do to accommodate you.

The Survivors Trust is keen to find someone with a finance background to join our active and highly motivated Trustee Board. We really welcome the insight and drive that survivors can bring to our work and are keen to promote diversity on the Board.
The Survivors Trust is a national membership organisation for specialist voluntary sector rape and sexual abuse support services in the UK and Ireland. We have 120+ member agencies who are all independent charities providing a range of counselling, support and advocacy services for women, men, children and young people, partners and family members who have been affected by sexual violence of any kind at any time in their lives.
The impact of sexual violence of any form, whether experienced as an adult or as a child, can be devastating and can last a lifetime. Survivors may experience a wide range of physical and mental health problems as a result of being sexually violated, affecting every aspect of their health, lives, relationships, education and work. We aim to raise awareness of the support survivors need and the work of our Member Agencies in providing this crucial help.
TST is in the unique position of having member agencies that are working with all victims and survivors of sexual violence and sexual abuse. We are well aware of the issues facing organisations that are delivering trauma informed services and can support them and policy makers and commissioners to understand how services need to be developed and provided. TST is an independent inspection body for our UKAS accredited service standards for specialist sexual violence organisations.
We provide an accredited Diploma for Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs) and CPD accredited workshops. We have also established a quality mark for educational establishments and corporate organisations, our Trauma Informed Educator and Trauma Informed Employer Quality Marks (TIE).

TRUSTEES REQUIRED!
At TOP UK we know how distressing and overwhelming OCD and phobias can be. Nearly 40 years of experience tells us that both conditions have a hugely negative impact on people’s lives. Fear and anxiety are incredibly unpleasant emotions and to frequently experience these emotions on a large scale is traumatic and debilitating. No one deserves that.
At TOP UK we also know that OCD and phobias are poorly understood, under-funded and stigmatised despite affecting millions of people. OCD and phobia sufferers often tell us how misunderstanding of their conditions leaves them feeling isolated, alone and afraid to seek help. At TOP UK, we believe no one should feel alone in facing their fears
It is an exciting but testing time at TOP UK and we have just launched an ambitious three-year strategy. While we are eager to embark on this new stage of development for our organisation it comes with an acknowledgment that we are working in particularly uncertain and stressful times and there is a greater need to grow our service than ever before. Demand for our service is at an all-time high and continues to grow, currently dramatically outstripping our capacity. Mental health services are at breaking point leaving those with OCD and Phobias often finding it impossible to find help and dealing with debilitating conditions alone.
Meeting this demand will be a challenge, but it is a challenge we are ready and willing to push for but in order to grow and build our organisation we are keen to evolve, enhance and diversify our Board of Trustees
The role is open to those from the public, private and voluntary sectors. You should be someone with a genuine interest in mental health and we are ideally looking for individuals with any of the following experience: Charity Governance; IT & Digital;Marketing, Communications and Brand; Fundraising: Diversity and Inclusion.
TOP UK also particularly welcomes applications from black and minority ethnic candidates and candidates from the LGBTQ+ community as they are currently under represented in our organisation.
All board meetings are virtual and take place every other month.

CHEM Trust seeks new Trustees to guide the charity in the next exciting stage of its growth
CHEM Trust focuses its work on preventing this pollution. We bring together science and policy to identify the chemicals that need to be controlled and the best way to do this. We collaborate closely with other environmental and health groups to drive this positive change for people and nature.
Our main area of attention is at the EU level. Even though many improvements are needed, the EU is the region that has the most effective chemicals policy system and EU regulations shape other regulatory systems around the world. We do this work in association with our German partner, CHEM Trust Europe eV, as well as EU-wide groups such as the European Environment Bureau.
We also work in the UK, to keep us closely aligned with the EU system. At the global level we work to deliver improvements to global chemicals management, inspired and informed by the work already done at the EU level.
Since 2007, we have shaped chemicals policies, and are seen as trusted partners. We have a good reputation with experts, scientists, other charities, and industry. Many of our wonderful funders recognise the unique and vital work that we do and support us year in and year out.
We have grown considerably in recent years and now employ an amazing team of 12 people in the UK and a group of experts within the EU.
A formative time to join us
With a new European Parliament and European Commission starting work this year, and with an election soon in the UK, it is vital that we keep chemical pollution high on the agenda. The PFAS ‘forever chemicals’ are getting a higher and higher profile, but these are just the tip of an iceberg of harmful chemicals.
It’s truly an exciting time to join us. I’m a new Chair and we are just finalising our new strategy, so you’d be coming in at a pivotal moment for the organisation. There’s a real opportunity to use your skills and experience to shape the next stage of our development and growth.
You’ll be part of a friendly board and organisation that punches well above its weight, carrying out internationally important work that is done nowhere else in the UK.
The Trustee roles
We are currently looking for up to six new Trustees. You can find out more about these roles, including a job description and how to apply, in the CHEM Trust Trustee Appointment Brief.
We are looking for a variety of experience and skills to increase our impact, and strengthen our resilience. If you have experience in fundraising, finance, law, or HR, we’d be particularly keen to hear from you.
CHEM Trust is committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board. We welcome the debate and innovation that greater diversity of thinking brings, and are keen to support new Trustees from the start to enable them to play an effective role.
If you have any queries about these roles or the recruitment process or would like an informal discussion with me before applying, please visit our website for information on how to organise it.
The deadline for receipt of applications is 09:00 UK time on Monday 3rd June 2024.
Please do take a look at our website to find out more about our vital work. We also invite you to watch my video, where I discuss these roles and CHEM Trust’s work. I look forward to receiving your application.

William Morris Society Trustee Recruitment (Treasurer-designate and LBHF resident)
The William Morris Society is recruiting for two new members to join our board of trustees – to contribute to the strategic direction and good governance of the charity as we head towards our milestone 70th anniversary.
Founded in 1955, the Society works to improve and diffuse knowledge of the life, work and influence of William Morris. This is achieved through an impressive programme of activity – including publication of a journal and a members’ magazine, delivery of in-house and high-profile guest speaker events, school and outreach opportunities and, not least of all, rolling exhibitions at our museum on the Thames in West London.
In 2024 the Society welcomed Tristram Hunt, Director of the V&A, as our new President and appointed for the first time a CEO to run the charity. New board members will join the Society at a time of rejuvenation and growth, although we remain a small organisation (with turnover <£150k) with the usual challenges facing the heritage and arts sectors.
The members of the Society comprise a fellowship of those interested in the very many diverse aspects of Morris’ life and artistic output – ranging from his famous wallpaper and tapestry designs, through his stained-glass and literary works, to his perhaps less-well known political activism. With something for everyone, we are a diverse membership – from across the UK and further afield.
We combine our broad and international appeal with a strong local presence in Hammersmith based on the contribution of Morris to the arts & crafts movement and grassroots politics during his time living at Kelmscott House – the Coach House of which is today run by the Society as a museum. We work with organisations across the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, including the Council from whom we receive an annual grant. To consolidate and further build our local connections we are recruiting for a resident of the community to join our board of trustees.
With our current Treasurer stepping down next year, we are also now recruiting for his successor. As Treasurer-designate, the successful candidate will have opportunity to work with and learn from the team, particularly with our finance officer, before stepping up to the role at our AGM in May 2025. For context, recent annual accounts can be viewed on the Charity Commission website.
We are keen to hear from all those with an interest in Morris and in supporting the work of the charity and who are either a) resident in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham or b) have financial experience to support the Society as our next Treasurer. The board meets quarterly with subcommittee meetings in between – including the Finance & General Purposes Committee, of which the Treasurer is ex officio a member.
Application is by CV and brief covering letter to the Society’s CEO, Claudia Suckling. To schedule an informal discussion about either role with the Vice-Chair, Tara-Jane Sutcliffe, please get in touch.
Early applications are encouraged. Please note that these are voluntary (unpaid), charity trustee roles.
Closing date: Sunday 2nd June.

Are you the person to lead Pause towards our vision of a society where birth mothers receive the best possible support, so the removal of a child never has to happen more than once?
Our board of trustees have the ultimate responsibility for our success, and as our long standing Chair is stepping down after two terms in office, we need someone new to lead this next phase.
The trustees meet on a regular basis to discuss Pause’s progress, problems and the future. They listen to, support and challenge the Chief Executive and leadership team, to make sure they stay on track and meet all their legal obligations. They also work with the Pause Advisory Group, which is made up of women who have completed the Pause Programme, to ensure that women are consulted on and involved in crucial decision-making.
Pause currently has eight trustees who all have different skills, experience and expertise. What brings them together, is their passion for improving the lives of women who’ve had children removed from their care.
We are looking to recruit two new trustees as well as a new Chair.
If you are also interested in the trustee role, please indicate this in the admin section.
The Chair plays a distinctive and important role on the Board by:
• Leading the Trustees in supporting, challenging and driving the success of Pause.
• Building a strong Board of Trustees, who bring together the expertise, skills and diversity of background and perspectives to drive success.
• Nurturing a constructive working relationship with the Chief Executive that balances support, challenge, scrutiny and holding the Chief Executive to account.
• Chairing Trustee meetings, ensuring they have the right attendees and everyone feels included and heard
• Making sure Trustees represent the culture and values of Pause.
Please see the recruitment pack on our website for more information.
We work to improve the lives of women who have had more than one child removed from their care, and the services and systems that affect them.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
Non-Member Trustee / Lay Trustee
We are looking for a non-member trustee to serve as a vital representative of the broader public within the UKKA governance structure. This role contributes diverse perspectives, ensures transparency, and fosters accountability in decision-making processes.
The person:
• Civic-minded
• Strategic and analytical thinking
• Communication skills
• Ethical integrity
While the non-member trustee may not possess specific knowledge or expertise in kidney care, their unique perspective and community-orientated approach will enrich the diversity of thought within the board of trustees and contribute to the association's overall success.
Time commitment: The non-member trustee will be expected to dedicate a certain amount of time each month to attend the Trustee Board Meetings (circa 3 online and 1 face to face meetings per year, plus monthly online meetings), attend or chair/co-chair other (sub) committee meetings, review materials, participate in discussions, and engage in association-related activities as necessary.
Term of office: Three years, with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

Media Trust is looking for new Trustees to join its Board to bring different perspectives and areas of expertise to complement and strengthen the Board’s skill set, experience and diversity. The new Trustees will bring enthusiasm for Media Trust’s work as well as relevant expertise, experience and networks to support the organisation in corporate/philanthropic fundraising or its programmes aimed at improving representation in the screen industries (film, TV, and gaming).
About Media Trust
At Media Trust, we believe it’s by giving everyone a voice that we’ll get to a more equal society. That’s why we’re working with hundreds of charities to strengthen their storytelling, advocacy and campaigning, press engagement and social media. We do this through media, communications and digital skills training delivered in partnership with our media and creative industry partners and by matching media industry volunteers looking to give back with charities looking for help with content creation and other comms support. At the same time, our programmes for underrepresented talent are giving young and diverse talent the creative media skills, access and mentoring support to break into the media.
The charity has an extensive network of long-standing media and creative industry partners including Ascential, BBC, BBH, Bloomberg, Channel 4, Dentsu, Edelman, Google, Hearst, ITV, Meta, News UK, Ogilvy, Sky, Talon, Warner Bros. Discovery, WPP and Yahoo, whom it works closely with to deliver its programmes.
Role specification
Media Trust has a committed Board of Trustees and is always looking to bring in different perspectives and areas of expertise to complement and strengthen the board further.
All Trustees are responsible for ensuring that Media Trust acts in the interest of the charities and the underrepresented groups it serves and, in line with its charitable objectives, must ensure that the charity’s performance is evaluated in this respect. In addition to formal Board meetings, Trustees should be willing to engage in other ways, for example by joining a working group or committee for a specified period or providing advice to the senior leadership team on a more ad hoc basis.
It is an advantage, though not a requirement, if trustees have contacts who are interested in supporting Media Trust’s aims.
Person specification
The new Trustees will bring passion and enthusiasm for Media Trust’s work and be keen to learn and contribute to the organisation’s work: bridging the gap between the media and creative industry and broader society to strengthen the voices of charities and under-represented communities.
Candidates should possess relationship-building and strong interpersonal skills and will be expected to act as prominent ambassadors for the charity. Media Trust is open to appointing candidates for whom this would be their first board role and is committed to broadening the Board’s diversity across every axis.
For the current vacancies, Media Trust is seeking experience and expertise in the following areas:
- Industry fundraising expertise: to support the executive team in identifying and securing programme/event sponsors and other sources of industry income. You may have leadership experience working at a media or brand organisation, a marketing or media industry body, or experience as a fundraising professional in the charity, nonprofit or private sectors with strong connections to industry.
- Screen industry connections: to help the executive team secure screen industries’ support (trainers, mentors, facilities) to deliver programmes aimed at getting more under-represented talent into film, TV, and gaming particularly in behind the camera roles, we’re looking for new trustees with deep connections within the screen industries, particularly in development, production and post-production at the major studios, major broadcasters or industry bodies.
Diversity
Media Trust welcomes applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith, or disability.
Media Trust is particularly keen to improve the diversity of its Board and ensure that it is representative of the organisations and communities which Media Trust serves. As people who identify as women or non-binary and people with physical disabilities or neurodiversity are all currently under-represented on the Board, applications from those candidates would be particularly encouraged.
All appointments will be made on merit, following a fair and transparent process, overseen by Media Trust’s Nominations Committee. In line with the Equality Act 2010, the organisation may employ positive action where diverse candidates can demonstrate their ability to perform the role equally well.
Expected time commitment
Media Trust holds four Board meetings per year which last around 3 hours, not including preparation.
There is also an opportunity, depending on skills and experience, for the new Trustees to join one or more Board committees. The Finance & Audit Committee meets four times a year for c. 1-1.5 hours each time, whereas the Nominations Committee meets according to need.
There is also the option to join the Advisory Board for a specific programme, depending on its relevance and a Trustee’s interest & availability.
Board meetings are usually held in Central London and are hosted at the offices of the charity’s Trustees, with reasonable travel expenses covered. Media Trust is a flexible employer: hybrid and remote working are welcomed, and there will be options to attend these meetings remotely.
