At Mid Norfolk Mencap we are passionate about supporting people with learning disabilities and their families. Enabling people to live independently, person-centred care is at the heart of what we do.

Our mission is to support and enable the people who use our services to lead fulfilling lives, to be involved in their local wider community, and to have access to the same opportunities as all members of society.

Mid Norfolk Mencap was established since 1977, and every year we provide residential living, social opportunities, and specialised Community Outreach support for more than 100 people with a learning disability in Norfolk. However, with around 16,500 adults in Norfolk with a learning disability, we know we can do so much more.

This is an exciting time for us as we work to grow and strengthen our services. As a trustee you will play a vital role in helping us deliver a stronger and more sustainable organisation for the benefit of our service users, their families, and for the staff who work to deliver those services.

Position: Trustee

Location: Trustee Board meetings and many of our charity’s activities take place in Dereham. In addition, some work may be required remotely using Zoom/ Teams, or in other parts of Norfolk from time to time.

Salary: This position is unpaid but reasonable expenses may be paid.

Responsibilities

This role is suited to candidates who can demonstrate professional or skills-based knowledge of benefit to the charity. We would particularly welcome applications from people with experience in the third sector, PR, fundraising, governance, risk management, management and law, and accountancy.

• You are a keen and respectful listener who can empathise and respectfully challenge.

• You are willing to be available to provide guidance to the senior management team on an ad hoc basis.

Training

You will be given a basic induction to the charity and opportunities to meet with the senior management team. We also strongly encourage trustees to spend time participating in our services delivery, getting to know our staff and volunteers – and most importantly, our beneficiaries. We will customise a training and familiarisation package for the successful candidate based on prior knowledge and experience.

The Veolia Environmental Trust is seeking to recruit up to three new Trustees to join our Board.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about the environment and supporting local communities to join our dynamic, lively, and diverse Board of Trustees.

Since it was founded in 1997, the Veolia Environmental Trust has contributed over £105 million to support almost 2,800 projects that protect the local environment and promote community wellbeing. 

The standard duties of our trustees include:

• Providing strategic direction

• Ensuring legal and regulatory compliance

• Evaluating and approving funding applications

Trustees are expected to attend four meetings a year, usually with two meetings being held virtually, and two held in-person at different locations across the UK. Preparation time is required prior to each meeting. Trustees may also take on additional roles, such as being a member of one of our committees.

Trustee positions are voluntary and non-remunerated and reasonable expenses are paid.

Previous experience of being a trustee is not required, and we welcome applications from people with a diverse range of skills, experience, and perspectives. All new Trustees receive an induction and ongoing support.

The Care Workers' Charity supports social care workers across the UK by providing mental health and wellbeing support, financial support in the form of crisis grants, and signposting applicants to other organisations and resources.

We are particularly looking for trustees who:

• have expertise or experience in industries apart from the care sector, or
• have experience of fundraising, or
• have charity experience, or
• have marketing experience, or
• have finance experience

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that The Care Workers’ Charity achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity and ensure that The Care Workers’ Charity has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Where they have specific expertise such as fundraising, they work with the CWC team, providing coaching or connections in order for us to raise funds to enable us to support as many care workers as we can. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable us to grow and thrive.

As a small charity, there will be times when the trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, representing the Charity, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise. Our trustees have a key role in risk management, working with the staff team to identify and manage risks.

Our Board meetings are mostly remote with one held face-to-face each year in London and occasionally we ask trustees to represent the Charity at events or award ceremonies, or at stakeholder events which are held close to the trustee's location.

Duties:

• Support and provide advice on The Care Workers’ Charity’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
• Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
• Oversee The Care Workers’ Charity’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
• Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
• Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
• Review and approve The Care Workers’ Charity’s financial statements.
• Provide support and challenge to our CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
• Keep abreast of changes in our operating environment.
• Contribute to regular reviews of The Care Workers’ Charity’s own governance.
• Attend Board meetings (mostly remote and possibly one being face-to-face), adequately prepared to contribute to discussions and respond promptly to requests for required action.

As Trustee you will help us to set the strategic direction and fundraising priorities of the Foundation, ensuring that we function within the legal and regulatory framework of the sector and make the best possible impact on the lives of those living in our county. You will join us at a time when our communities are experiencing more disparity of advantage than ever before in our county.

The primary purpose of a Board Trustee is to work with the Chair, the Chief Executive, and the other Trustees to ensure that the Community Foundation fulfils its objectives and performance targets. To that end, he or she is required to contribute to the effective running of the Board as a governing body.

What are we looking for? Specific skills and experience.

We believe that it is vitally important to work in partnership in our county, to support those most in need in our communities. To that end we are seeking to recruit a number of trustees as follows: 

1. A Trustee who could bring governance interest or experience to join our Personnel & Governance Committee.
   1. Could be someone with HR interest and background OR

5. A trustee who will take the lead for the Board on our exciting new Arts, Culture & Heritage Social Impact Fund. Someone who is passionate about the life-changing impact that arts, culture and heritage can have on people and can help us grow a new fund in this area.

For all the Trustee roles:

• The Trustee role is a voluntary position, open to all applicants, prior trustee experience is not required and a full induction programme will be provided.
• We are particularly looking for Trustees who can help us to ensure that our Board is as diverse as the local community that it serves in order to ensure a range of opinions and lived experience on our Board.
• Minimum engagement equivalent to one full day per month (typically spread out).
• Trustees must be able to attend 4 Board meetings per year (2-3 hours each). Offices are in Woking, and all meetings are hybrid to support remote attendance.
• And attend annual Board Away Day.
• And Trustees are also encouraged to participate in a minimum of one Board Sub-Committee (2-6 meetings per year depending on the committee).
• Trustees should also be able to commit to attending occasional Donor development events and/or visit grant recipient events from time to time.  
• Trustees are appointed for an initial three-year term of office, after which they may be re-elected for a further 2 consecutive terms of three years.
• Trustees are voluntary positions, but expenses incurred in their duties may be reclaimed from the Foundation with the approval of the Chair and Chief Executive.

Role Summary

We are looking for a new Chair of Trustees who will offer strategic and supportive leadership to our highly effective, collaborative and committed Board.  The Chair leads the board, ensuring that it governs the charity effectively, in service of the charity's vision and mission.  The Chair leads in an inclusive way, supporting the Board to work together well, and providing support and challenge to the Chief Executive.  The Chair is also an ambassador for the charity.

Chair role & responsibilities 

Provide strategic leadership to the charity and the Board, ensuring that Glass Door achieves its mission with the interests of Glass Door's guests at its centre.

Work collaboratively with the CEO, staff and volunteers to achieve our mission and optimise the relationship between the Board and Glass Doors's staff and volunteers.

Provide leadership within the Board, ensuring that it fulfills its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation and promoting governance among fellow Trustees, providing clarity around boundaries between governance, management and operations.

Plan and chair the bi-monthly board meetings and the AGM, with colleagues as appropriate and liaise with the CEO, Company Secretary and Governance Trustee with regard to setting up meetings, agenda items and annual report content.

Facilitate meetings ensuring all have equal involvement in discussions, clarifying any uncertainties, confirming decisions made and actions to be taken and ensuring effective time management of meetings whilst providing appropriate periods of discussion and reflection.

What we are looking for

Trustee - Future Frontiers

Future Frontiers is an award winning charity that provides one-to-one careers guidance for pupils from low income backgrounds. The charity trains business professionals to deliver a programme of face-to-face coaching to children from schools in their community.

It is seeking a trustee with experience in a leadership position within a business who can help advise the charity on growing its network of business partnerships. The trustee would also leverage their network and experience to more generally support Future Frontiers through its next stage of impact and growth, including potential expansion to other parts of the country.​

Restore has been supporting individuals across Oxfordshire since 1977. Members can attend recovery groups weekly for up to two years and receive one-to-one coaching. People are supported towards their own mental health recovery goals, such as moving-on to employment, volunteering or training. Restore is also home to the Oxfordshire Recovery College for therapeutic peer learning, and Restore are expert providers of formal mental health training.

Restore benefits thousands of people each year, directly and indirectly. 5,600 attendances at recovery group sessions with 510 individuals benefitting. Hundreds of individuals receive coaching from specialists and around 1,000 are trained in Mental Health First Aid.

What will you be doing?

Our trustees work effectively together to hold Restore “In Trust” for those who it is intended to benefit. Trustees play a critical role at Restore as they are the people who make sure the charity does what it says it will.

There are five main things that trustees are responsible for:

• Ensuring that Restore has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction and is focussed on achieving these
• Being responsible, with the other trustees, for the performance of Restore and its culture
• Ensuring that Restore complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
• Being guardians of Restore’s assets, taking due care over their security and proper application
• Ensuring that Restore’s governance is of the highest possible standard

Time Commitment 

You’ll need to be able to:

• Attend board meetings once per quarter from 4:30pm, which rarely exceed two and a half hours.
• Attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) once per year.
• Join one of our subcommittees, linked to your skill set, in order to get a proper feel for what is going on and contribute to discussion and decision-making.
• Get involved in other activities depending on your skills/interests/preferences.
• Make visits to our recovery groups and head office teams to ensure we all stay close to the services we are providing
• Correspond by email to discuss items and make decisions between meetings.

Our meetings are currently hybrid, where attendance can be in person or online. We are aware that people who are working full-time or have family/other responsibilities may not always be able to travel to the meetings in person. It is important that Trustees are able to visit services, attend at least some meetings in person and have a connection with the community to which we deliver services. With this in mind, it’s unlikely that you will be based outside of Oxfordshire and its surrounding counties.

Trustees are appointed (at the November AGM) for a three-year term at a time which can be extended twice, meaning a maximum of nine years.

Specialist skills

We are particularly keen to talk to people with the following specialist skills:

• Property/architecture/planning/surveying/large building project experience
• Clinical expertise in mental health
• Public sector/health sector experience

Do you have financial skills and enthusiasm to help an organisation that supports families of young children?  You could be the next Treasurer for Home-Start Surrey heath and help drive our vision.

Our board includes people with experience and skills in support for Early Years; we'd expect our new Treasurer to have empathy with our cause and the families we support.

Today the BBF operates a fleet of 15 specially converted vehicles from Stanmore, Aylesbury and North Wales. The BBF is operated by a combination of paid and volunteer staff with head office at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.

The role of Chair is a voluntary position with the requirement to commit to one to two days per month, attend online meetings every 6-8 weeks and the AGM. The Chair will lead the Board of Trustees, chair committee meetings and the AGM.

Previous trustee / charity experience is required and the commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership. Previous experience within the health / care / transport sectors will be a distinct advantage however, other relevant experience and the right attributes will also be considered.

The BBF holds an annual meal to thank the volunteers and staff, and there are other periodic meetings and events throughout the year.
