Job description

About us
Crisis is the national charity for homeless people. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.

Currently we are inviting applications for an inspirational Music and Arts Tutor to join our dynamic, multi-disciplined team at Crisis Skylight Edinburgh. This is a fixed-term, seconded role with the opportunity to build creatively on our Music offering and introduce new, exciting elements of learning that will support adults with a range of needs to use their creativity as a crucial part of their journey out of homelessness.

About the role
As Music and Arts Tutor, you will be creating and delivering a rich mix of exciting music classes, visual arts sessions, projects and potentially showcases, both inhouse and through outreach, for adults with a wide range of needs. To ensure restrictions on face-to-face learning under Covid-19 don’t stand in the way of delivering great learning with members, you’ll make innovative use of online platforms for delivering learning remotely. Your digital skills and creative know-how will enable you to hit the ground running in working with members and developing an accessible offering at this time, and as we return to in-person learning in time.

You will regularly review members’ progress, supporting their development of skills and enjoyment in music and the arts, and contributing to the whole team’s work to keep them moving forward in their journey out of homelessness. You will generate exciting and appropriate opportunities to curate, share, record and exhibit members’ work as part of this role.

This is a seconded post, which has allowed us to create internal opportunities for growth and progression across our teams, while opening up this exciting role within learning for an initially fixed-term period.

About you
To be successful in this role you will be a skilled musician, creative, and educator, able to demonstrate your passion and experience in using music and arts in combination with a range of review tools to help measure and support significant positive change in the lives of those affected by homelessness. Empathy, warmth, vision, organisation, humour, and the ability to work under your own guidance as well as build positive relationships with people are qualities that are as important as the creative skills required to do this job effectively, as well as a commitment to understanding processes and a flexibility to adopting new ways of working.

You will have demonstrable strong experience in designing, planning, delivering and evaluating music and arts learning with adults, with a qualification in Community Education, teaching, or significant experience in a professional role. You will be able to display your knowledge of and compassion for working with vulnerable people and will always be looking for the best ways to involve members at all stages of planning and decision-making.

Benefits
As a member of the team you will have access to a wide range of employee benefits including:

- Interest free loans to purchase a train season ticket or a bike or for a deposit to secure a tenancy
- Mandatory pension scheme, with an employer contribution of 8.5%
- 25 days’ annual leave which increases with service to 28 days

Alongside our excellent staff benefits, we will support your ongoing development to build your skills, experience and career.
