Job description

Lancaster University Students’ Union plays a fundamental role in shaping the student experience at Lancaster University, providing key services, events and activities and shaping the future of the institution by ensuring student voices are heard in decision-making at all levels.

It’s an exciting time to be part of the Lancaster University community. The University has consolidated its top-10 place in several key league tables and is embarking on a new strategy. The campus is expanding to reflect growing student numbers, with a new Health Innovation Campus soon to open alongside a redeveloped Management School. The University is closely involved with plans to open a new Eden Project in Morecambe, a project that promises to transform the local area and put the Lancaster region on the map like never before.

The Union is developing a programme of activity designed to help overcome the challenges our members face to feeling part of the students' union and the wider university community, particularly during these unprecedented times caused by Covid-19. Our ultimate aim is to have a positive impact on a broader and more diverse mix of Lancaster students, supporting them to have a fun, fulfilling and fantastic time at university.

The Trustee Board is vital to steering the strategic direction of the Union, and we are currently looking for new External Trustees to work alongside elected Officer and Student Trustees to ensure that our Union is well-run, financially sustainable and anchored by student voice.

To contribute effectively in this role, you will be committed to working with a diverse board within democratic structures, as well as a willingness to collaborate closely with individuals who might be in their first position of leadership. We particularly welcome applications from individuals with finance, commercial services, governance, or HR and organisational development experience.

Lancaster University Students’ Union is committed to being a diverse and inclusive place to work. The Union welcomes applications from everyone regardless of race, age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability.

The closing date for applications is midday on Friday, 4th June 2021. For a conversation and details of how to apply, please contact our recruitment partner Society.

The Union also seeks two independent advisors for its Commercial and HR and Remuneration sub-committees. These individuals will provide expert HR and commercial advisory without assuming broader Trustee commitments.
