Placement Volunteers at the British Red Cross are highly valued for the skills and energy they bring. We aim to provide our placement volunteers with an insight into the daily workings of the world’s largest humanitarian organisation. They will have access to relevant in-house training and development opportunities during their placement with possible ad hoc opportunities to get involved in other areas of activity.
Our volunteers will help make a great contribution to the work of the British Red Cross and will be responsible for achieving specific agreed objectives within one of our various departments. While we don’t offer voluntary internships, we are happy for you to describe yourself as an intern on your CV, if you feel that would be helpful
The expected start date for the placement will be 1 September 2025 and the placement will run for 12 weeks, up to 3 days each week.
The placement location will be The British Red Cross office 5 Donnybrewer Road, Derry/Londonderry, (BT47 3PD).
About the role:
We are looking for a hardworking and passionate individual to support us with the development and delivery of the HumanKind Programme. This programme provides cross-community humanitarian engagement activities in the Londonderry~Derry and Strabane area we are hoping to work with local people who know the area to help us meet our objectives.
We are funded through Derry City and Strabane District Council who are funded by PEACEPLUS a programme managed by the Special EU programmes body (SEUPB). Our funding includes covering community activity days and community volunteering events, which you will be able to get involved with where you have availability.
We are looking for someone that works well in a team environment as well as handling tasks independently. This role does not require any prior experience or knowledge; you just need to be eager to learn and become part of the team. This is a versatile role that allows for flexibility and adaptability when it comes to working hours and tasks. We can work with you and make sure that you get as much out of the volunteer placement as possible.
We would like our programme to have as much impact as possible and to reach as many people as possible, having your support could play a huge role in helping us achieve this. You can help us in a variety of ways, with the delivery of our activities, with getting the word out to more people about our opportunities or in the development and planning of our programme.

You will also be working as a team with the Project Manager so we hope that you have teamwork skill but also can work independently on a project or task.
Bursary Scheme
The British Red Cross offers a bursary scheme to those placement volunteers from low-income households. Eligibility will be determined through a separate application process open to all short-listed candidates. All British Red Cross volunteers are entitled to out-of-pocket reasonable expenses. What we do
ENN’s work includes our “Field Exchange” publication that provides up to date information from research, programme learnings, and news from the sector, generated by practitioners, and distributed to our large network of researchers, practitioners and policy makers globally. We have projects specialising in Infant Feeding in Emergencies, Wasting and Stunting, Maternal and Adolescent Nutrition and support for Small and Nutritionally at-risk Infants under six months & their mothers and also manage a peer-to-peer forum offering timely answers to the questions challenging those on the front line of providing services to treat and prevent malnutrition in the world. ENN does not directly implement programmes but works to improve the effectiveness of all nutrition practitioners by helping to shape policy and practice at global and national levels.
Key Tasks
· Translate short documents or messages from English to French, particularly technical content related to malnutrition prevention and treatment.
· Assist in the drafting or translation of social media posts for ENN’s French-speaking audience.
· Attend and take minutes for virtual meetings held in French, involving health and nutrition practitioners working in Francophone Africa.
· Provide feedback and quality assurance on French translations, once familiar with ENN’s tone, terminology, and referencing glossaries (ENN, GNC, etc.).
· Where relevant, support in identifying contacts in Francophone regions for interviews, written contributions, or presentations aligned with ENN’s technical areas of focus.
Requirements
- Fluency in French (C1 or C2 level) with excellent written and verbal skills.

This Health Center has many medical specialties, but they also give a lot of importance to preventive medicine and the promotion of health in the neighborhood. The doctors and nurses organize campaigns and workshops for the community; visit their homes in order to understand the social and economical root of health issues, and to help more effectively.
Background information
The "Centro de Atención Primaria" (Basic Health Care Center) is located in J. L. Suárez, an hour and a half away from the city. This Health center was founded in 1983 right after democracy was established in the country again. Currently, the center has 23 professionals who work as a team to receive 3000 patient consultations per month. Patients come from neighborhoods that are near Río Reconquista, a vulnerable neighborhood. The director of the health center is Fernando who has been working there for over 30 years. Their main idea is to share their understanding and knowledge of preventive health with the community to avoid that the patients get sick. In this way, besides taking care of patients they also work a lot in educating them and giving them tools so they can learn to take care of their health.
In this Basic Health Care Center, they see patients at the first level of sanitary assistance, they don't cover emergencies. Here doctors work a lot with health conscience, with trying to give a friendly service so they can reach the most vulnerable places in the area. Their idea is to work mainly in prevention that's why they work with contraception, fast HIV test detection and they do workshops in the schools, go and walk around the neighborhood. They face many difficulties, such as seeing patients with different illnesses due to the pollution, poor sanitary conditions, and the precarious sewage of the neighborhood. Despite all of this, at the moment they are developing a plan to improve their facilities and in this way make the health center better and more comfortable for the whole community.
Why is this project important for the community?
This health center has a comprehensive concept of "health" that goes beyond the biological fact of the illness. Health is understood as a process affected by various causes, including poverty. Therefore, doctors work in an interdisciplinary way, as a team, that integrates the different specialties for better care. Furthermore, they work to promote community participation in preventing and finding solutions.
Along these lines, the health center works integrally with the neighborhood without leaving aside the context of the population to which it serves. This perspective seeks to break with the idea of the doctor as the owner of the truth and tries to demonstrate that scientific knowledge along with popular knowledge can have a greater impact and better results.
Among the specialties that the center includes are: Pediatrics, general medicine, gynecology, obstetrics, odontology, psychology, social work, nutrition, psychopedagogy, and nursing. They also organize different workshops and activities for the community.
Volunteer's Role
Volunteer's tasks will depend on their commitment and interests, anyway, volunteers will start as spectators so they can learn how the health center and the professionals work. All areas, activities, and workshops are open to the volunteer who can participate both in the activities inside the center and those carried out in the field according to their interests. Moreover, volunteers learn a lot about the Argentine Health System, how to work in a team different from what you learn in universities, you can share your own knowledge as well as learn a lot from the people you share your experience with
For this reason, an intermediate level of Spanish is required, so that the volunteer can become more involved with those who work in the center and with the community. The volunteer must develop an outlook of communicating with people, taking into account that this is an institution that serves the community and that their concern is to understand the people living there and their health problems.
What can you learn as a volunteer?
It is an opportunity to put into practice previous knowledge about medicine, learn new modalities, and ways of running a health center. Volunteers will also learn about the culture and functioning of the public health system in Argentina from a health promotion and prevention approach. Therefore, volunteers will learn how a prevention approach on health works in a community and it's importance. The volunteers will get the chance to shadow doctors from different areas and, after the first week, the volunteers will get immersed in those of preference.
Long term volunteers can apply for a soft skills certificate from GLORE, a Project from the EU. You can choose up to 5 skills to certificate according to your experience and will.

The Trans Legal Clinic is the first trans-led specialist gender identity legal practice and registered charity in the UK. Service Introduction
The Casework department is the core of our organisation, working directly with clients by offering them support and advocacy. We have assisted over 70 clients since October 2023 and will be re-opening our referrals in January 2025 to new clients seeking our support.
Our Casework department is divided into four teams. Each team constitutes of one Specialist Caseworker who oversees 5-15 casework volunteers. Our four teams are:

Our Gender-Based Violence team provides specialist support to trans* individuals who have experienced hate crime, domestic abuse, and/or sexual violence. We work with compassion and care to empower our clients, often in extremely distressing circumstances, offering practical assistance in navigating the criminal justice system, obtaining protective orders, and accessing support services. Recognising the unique challenges trans* people face in these situations, our team works to address systemic inequalities and ensure that all clients feel safe, heard, and supported throughout their journey to justice and recovery.
Key tasks and responsibilities
Support and outreach
Be fully aware of safeguarding issues and lead on client risk management within the service.
Update the Gender-Based Violence client database to ensure client records are updated within agreed timeframes and that they accurately record interventions and demonstrate progress.
Liaise with our team of solicitors when requesting advice and guidance on a case.
Reach out to organisations that specialise in gender-based violence, especially hate crime, domestic abuse, and/or sexual violence and trans* specific services, to collaborate and share knowledge and resources.
Teamwork

IAPWA was founded in 2009 and aims to provide protection and improve the welfare of animals in need. THE ROLE
In February this year, we launched the pilot for our Youth Ambassador Programme, encouraging students between 11-18 to sign up and work towards becoming a Youth Ambassador for the charity through fundraising, raising awareness and animal welfare advocacy. We received a significant interest and are now in a position to have a super successful first full run out of the programme starting in September 2025.
As the Education Partnerships Assistant, you will be aiding the Partnerships Manager in running and growing this year’s programme, while also developing a new programme aimed at schools rather than individuals called the Educator Partner Programme, where schools and education institutions work towards being recognized as an IAPWA Educator Partner.
The role will involve:
- Youth Ambassador Programme Support: Assisting with the day-to-day coordination of the IAPWA Youth Ambassador Programme, including supporting young people aged 11–18 as they complete their activities and challenges to achieve ambassador status.
- Event and Presentation Assistance: Helping to organise and attend school visits, presentations, and award ceremonies, including communicating with schools and coordinating with community supporters.
- Volunteer Engagement: Communicating with Youth Ambassadors and their families, celebrating their achievements, and maintaining positive and inspiring engagement throughout their journey with the programme
- Content Creation: Supporting the creation of Youth Ambassador Programme resources, certificates, welcome packs, and promotional content.
- Educator Partner Programme Development: Assisting in the development of the new Educator Partner Programme for schools and educational institutions, including planning activities, recognition criteria, and outreach strategies.

You’ll take some of the stress and anxiety out of getting around and taking part in activities as a blind or partially sighted person. The help you give will encourage people to do more.
What you’ll be doing
• Sighted guiding / giving practical help to individuals in and around venues, so they can take part in events.
• Supporting volunteers with sight loss with their volunteering activities which range from facilitating a regular community group to delivering a talk about sight loss to a local business. Your role would involve things like guiding; Meeting and greeting at group activities or creating a welcoming and interesting display stand at events.
In this role you will only be helping individuals in places open to the public, often in a group setting. We will provide training in sighted guiding techniques and understanding sight loss.

Re-Vision is a small charity based in Queen’s Park, London, founded in 1988. We run professionally accredited part-time courses for adults to train as Counsellors and Psychotherapists and are looking for Trustees to join our Board.

Re-Vision is a registered charity. It is a small, not for profit counselling and psychotherapy training organisation providing outstanding, in-depth training with a soulful perspective. We also offer a low cost community counselling service to enable access to mental health services for those who might otherwise not find this affordable.
The role
We are juggling a number of important strategic imperatives. We have highlighted the need to improve resilience, to look ahead at future plans for our physical environment, to continue to provide an inclusive and rewarding experience for our students, trainers and staff, to maintain and build on the unique soulfulness and richness of our training, and to build our bursary fund to help to increase accessibility to our training.
We are keen to find trustees willing to help us with these challenges. We are particularly keen to involve people with financial or marketing skills, and people who have been involved in facilitating or helping small organisations faced with the challenge of retaining core values during periods of change. This is an exciting period of change for Re-Vision and could be a good time for those with experience in strategic planning or change management to get involved, even if only for a fixed term.

FareShare Merseyside redistributes quality surplus food to over 232 community-based organisations who are working with vulnerable people across the region and parts of North Wales. Our volunteers are at the heart of our service, with an amazing team of almost 100 volunteers, who ensure quality surplus food reaches those most in need in all communities in our region. As a thank you for their support, we hold regular wellbeing social events and offer pathways onto our employability program.
Why we need you:
This role is vital to the work of FareShare, ensuring that food is safely delivered to our Community Food Members or collected from our food suppliers. A standard driving licence is all you need to deliver our food once or twice a week to children’s clubs, homeless hostels and refuges in your area.
What will I be doing?
- Safely driving vans to deliver and collect food
- Representing FareShare in a courteous and professional manner at all times
- Completing all relevant paperwork
- Planning routes, sorting food, picking orders, loading and unloading.
- Carrying out routine checks on the vans, taking responsibility for the vans throughout the day and reporting accidents or damage to the van or other vehicles
- Assist in the maintenance of the vans including cleaning
What we need you to be:
- Minimum of 18 years old and hold a full, clean driving licence
- Confident to drive a medium-sized van (experience is preferable)
- Good at map reading and/or able to use a Sat Nav system
- Positive, friendly and personable, able to interact well with different people
- Enthusiastic about tackling food waste and/or food poverty
- Able to perform physical tasks including lifting and loading
- Good with numbers, identifying different foods, writing clearly
- Able to work effectively and use your initiative in a fast-paced environment
- Able to work well in a team and on your own
- Able to follow FareShare’s policies & procedures
- Flexible – there may be times when we ask you to help on other projects/tasks
