Trauma Foundation South West (TFSW) help refugees and people seeking asylum who have suffered trauma, oppression and war, and those working with them. We are seeking a finance professional to join our Board.

What will you be doing?

Our Trustees work collaboratively to meet our legal responsibilities to govern the charity, including:

• Defining TFSW’s long-term direction and furthering its charitable purposes.
• Ensuring it is effectively and properly run with legal and other obligations met and being accountable to those with an interest or ‘stake’ in the charity.

We use board meetings to agree and oversee our strategic priorities, monitor risks, ensure sound financial management and confirm the charity’s assets are being used appropriately. All TFSW Trustees additionally bring individual skills and experience that are much valued. 

As well as different skillsets, there are three defined roles on the board: Chair, Finance Lead and Fundraising Lead, and three Trustees chair the sub-committees (they may be the same people who undertake the defined roles).

As the Finance Lead, you will oversee the charity's finances to ensure regulatory and legal responsibilities are met and comply with charity accounting practice and returns.

This is a voluntary role, but we can pay Trustees’ expenses. The time commitment for all Trustees is approximately 22 hours per year (under 2 hours per month).

What are we looking for?

Essential requirements for all Trustees are:

• Enthusiasm for contributing to TFSW’s purpose and able to commit the required time.
• Able, or willing to learn, to carry out the responsibilities of being a Trustee.
• Commitment to TFSW’s values, clients and to working in a supportive and inclusive environment.
• A specific skillset that enhances the Board’s overall skills. In this case we are seeking Finance experience, ideally with financial or accountancy qualifications. We value and respect qualifications from outside the UK.

We have a committed and supportive board with a diverse skillset and are currently recruiting to meet areas where we need to enhance our overall skillset. In addition, we strive to be a board more representative of the diversity of the communities we serve and as such we warmly and actively welcome those with lived experience of the asylum or refugee resettlement process to apply. To be more representative of gender and ethnic diversity more broadly, we would also welcome applicants from the Global Majority and male applicants.

We are recruiting volunteers to oversee and help at Pride stalls across the UK.  

It Gets Better UK is making the world a better place for LGBTQ+ youth. LGBTQ+ youth in the UK face serious mental health challenges, worsened by societal stigma, discrimination, and a lack of support: 1 in 5 LGBTQ+ young people have experienced suicidal thoughts, and 33% have self-harmed.​

In a world which often tells LGBTQ+ young people not to be themselves, we're providing LGBTQ+ youth with the tools, resources, and support they need to navigate their identities safely, and know they are not alone and that their futures are filled with possibility. We collect and share the stories of LGBTQ+ adults who've been there themselves, to help LGBTQ+ young people find a community where they can see themselves reflected and envisage a future worth experiencing.

At Pride, we share positive stories from members of the LGBTQ+ community. We encourage attendees to share their story, message to their younger self, or message of support. The conversations we have are uplifting and often emotional. 

What will I be doing? 

• Choose one or more Pride events which you commit to attending with us. 

• Help set up and tidy up stand at beginning/end of event. 

• Welcome people to the stall, invite them to learn about stories from others in the community, and share their own stories.

• Support fundraising and raising awareness with our branded badges. 

• Engage event participants in positive messaging opportunities and story-collecting via our whiteboards: “a message to my younger self”. 

• Get photo consent from participants so that we can share their messages on our platforms. 

• Help produce video messages, recording participants' stories of hope. 

• Promote volunteering roles within It Gets Better and let people know to how to get involved. 

• Signpost people to our resources and how we can support them. 

• Listen to stall attendees’ stories with warmth and respect.

7th Perthshire (Methven) Scout Group are looking to recruit a Chair of Trustees. 

About us:We are a small yet active charity running scouting groups (Beavers Cubs and Scouts) for young people aged 6-14 living in and around Methven, Perthshire. The ethos of the group aligns with the core principles of Scouting which aims to teach young people “Skills for Life”. All scouting activities in Methven are provided by a dedicated group of volunteers, overseen by a Board of Trustees to which we now seek to recruit a new Chairperson. The Chair plays a pivotal role in leading and guiding the charity towards achieving its aims and objectives. This position requires a dynamic individual who can ensure effective governance and strategic direction. The role is for 3 years initially, as per our constitution.

Duties

• Lead and preside over Trustee meetings (approximately 4-5 per year), ensuring that discussions are productive and focused on achieving outcomes.
• Develop agendas in collaboration with other board members, ensuring all relevant topics are covered.
• Foster an inclusive environment where all members feel valued and encouraged to contribute.
• Represent the organisation at public events, as necessary, effectively communicating its vision and objectives.
• Oversee the implementation of policies and strategies set by the board, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
• Help to set budgets and manage the charities finances to enable it to perform its duties and fulfil its vision.

Skills

• Strong leadership and team working skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Well-developed organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to think strategically and make informed decisions that benefit the charity.
• A collaborative mindset with a focus on building consensus.
• An understanding of and alignment with the ethos, vision and values of Scouts, it is a requirement to  uphold these at all times.
• The ability to research and formulate grant applications on behalf of the charity would be beneficial but is not essential.

Additional Information

• This is a volunteer role and attracts no remuneration, however reasonable expenses will be covered.
• Although this role does not require the successful candidate to directly work with young people it will require an enhanced PVG.
• The Board of Trustees meet approximately 4-5 times a year, usually for up to 2 hours at a time.  Additional time outside of trustee meetings will likely be required to follow up on actions agreed by the Board. This role could be performed as a hybrid role as some meetings could be run online, however an in-person presence at the AGM each year is essential.  The AGM is held where the charity operates, in Methven, Perthshire.
• Training both for this role, and about Scouts as an organisation and charity will be delivered online in an on-demand format. The successful candidate will be expected to complete this before taking up the role in September 2025.  Further ongoing support and training is offered both online and in person to enable the successful candidate to enhance their skills, learn new skills as required and network with other volunteers across the wider organisation.
