Hestia and UK SAYS NO MORE operate over 4,500 Safe Spaces in pharmacies and banks across the UK, for anyone experiencing domestic abuse. Anyone can be affected by domestic abuse, regardless of gender, age, race or identity. Domestic abuse is not always physical violence, and it can take many forms including emotional, sexual abuse, coercive and controlling behaviour. One in three women and one in seven men are affected by domestic abuse.

What you will be doing

• To visit Pharmacies and Banks/Building societies to check whether they have a consultation room to deliver the Safe Spaces Scheme

We’re passionate about what we do, and love giving second-hand clothing a chance of going to a good home. Our shop teams are key to raising vital funds for our work and act as incredible advocates for the rights of children both in the UK and around the world.

Volunteering in the shop

We've recently reopened our Islington Shop with a gorgeous new look inspired by the neighbouring film studios. In amongst the retro cinema seats and beautiful backstage velvet curtains you'll find unique vintage treasures and lovingly curated donated stock, hand picked by our brilliant volunteer team.

Our Islington Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

We’re looking for volunteer gardeners to help us maintain our gardens in our Walsall hospice.

At Acorns we provide care and support for life limited or life threatened children and their families. We have three hospices in the West Midlands, which provide a happy homely environment where children can experience all kinds of great activities, meet new friends or relax and enjoy some quiet time.

As a volunteer, you’ll get involved in a variety of hands-on tasks such as planting, weeding, path clearing, sweeping, and general garden maintenance. It's a rewarding way to contribute to our hospice community while enjoying nature and staying active.

Am i right for the role

We are currently seeking volunteers with relevant experience in gardening or outdoor maintenance, as their skills and knowledge will be invaluable in helping us care for and maintain our garden to a high standard.

Hours are flexible throughout the week, as some team members are unable to undertake heavier physical tasks, we are especially interested in applicants who are reasonably fit and enjoy hands-on outdoor work.

Could you help to raise vital funds for SSAFA in your local area? You don’t need a military background, just the ability to get on with all kinds of people and some occasional free time.

What is a Branch Fundraiser?

As part of a local team, our fundraisers represent SSAFA at events, and in public. The role includes helping at fayres, street collections, concerts, quizzes, raffles, sporting events etc.

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.

SSAFA branches rely on regular charitable income to fund all the necessities behind our support for clients. This includes volunteer travel expenses, phone bills, publicity, and grants for clients in urgent need. A varied programme of fundraising also keeps the SSAFA profile high in the local community, so everyone knows who we are and how we can help.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

This role involves being out and about at public events and would suit someone looking to give the occasional day, half day or evening to support SSAFA; when and where would be flexible to suit you.

What would you be doing?

• Be part of a team with collection/buckets tins at events, supermarkets, shopping centres, etc.
• Acting as a marshal at a public event e.g., handing out water to runners, supervising parking etc.
• Being part of a team running a stall at an event, Armed Forces Day, fayre, county show etc.
• Helping with putting up posters, building gazebos, serving refreshments, packing/unpacking cars etc.
• Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA, engaging people of all backgrounds and interests
• Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)

The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

Time expectation

Our volunteer fosterers usually spend around one and a half hours per day (around 10 to 13 hours per week) in this role, but this might vary depending on the number of cats or kittens in care.

We are looking for a male mentor volunteer to provide guidance, support, and inspiration to young boys in our Brent Domestic Abuse Service. You will act as a positive role model by offering a listening ear for challenges, helping build social connections, and developing life skills like self-esteem, respecting others, and decision-making. Hestia provides holistic, one-to-one support in our refuges and the community. Our refuge services are for women and children, offering a safe place to stay and vital emotional and practical support.

Outside of our refuges, most of our support services are accessible by anyone who has experienced domestic abuse, including men.

In the last year, 3,855 women and children were supported by Hestia to recover from domestic abuse.

Anyone can experience domestic abuse, at any point in their life, regardless of their background, age, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation. However, it is a gendered crime, with women being three times more likely to be victims.

We help people understand what domestic abuse is and develop the knowledge, skills and tools they need to protect themselves, stay safe and leave a relationship, if and when they’re ready to do so.

As a Family Support Volunteer with Tŷ Hafan, you’ll help ease the everyday pressures families face by offering help in the home. This might include light cleaning, tidying, laundry, garden maintenance or supporting the siblings, whatever matches your skills and the family’s needs.

Your support will give families the breathing space to focus on what matters most: spending time together.

Considerations:

Age requirement: 21+

Location: Across South & West Wales (in your local area)

Time commitment: Flexible and can be adjusted to accommodate your personal schedule. The support plans designed for referred families are typically structured to span a period of six weeks.

Background checks: Enhanced DBS check, 2 references and induction/training course required before starting.

Due to the nature of the role, we are looking for volunteers with some skills, experience and knowledge of gardening, either as a profession or as a hobby.

Activities include:

• Practical support activities such as supporting with housework, decluttering spaces or gardening

• Child focused activities such as reading, play and providing fun 

• Wellbeing & therapeutic support (if qualified) such as complimentary therapies and mindfulness

• Family support & companionship activities such as offering emotional support and conversation, accompanying families to appointments, etc.

These activities can be matched to each volunteer’s skills, experience, and comfort level, and always tailored to the family’s preferences and needs.

Treasurer and Bookkeeper Volunteer

What the role involves:

A support group treasurer and bookkeeper take on specific roles and responsibilities in the managing and reporting of the group’s finances.  One volunteer can do both roles or two volunteers can work together, dividing responsibilities.  The key tasks are:

Bookkeeper:

• Digital recording of all group income and expenditure using a monthly account spreadsheet
• Submit monthly accounts to the Stroke Association together with receipts and paying in slips
• Have access to the group’s online bank account to pay invoices
• Prepare a financial summary for the annual review meeting of the group 
• Liaise closely with the group treasurer (where the role is split)
• Aware of the Stroke Association financial guidelines
• Work together with the Stroke Association’s Finance Administrator

Treasurer/card holder:

• Manage the groups prepaid card
• Oversee the day to day income and expenditure, using the group’s pre-paid card and petty cash 
• Have access to the group’s online bank account to pay invoices
• Ensure all expenses and invoices are paid on time
• Bank any cash or cheques with the Barclays deposit card 
• Each month collate receipts, invoices, volunteer claims and registers of all group income and expenditure and email to the bookkeeper (where the role is split) Liaise closely with the book keeper (where the role is split) 
• Ensure the group follows the Stroke Association’s financial guidelinesWork with fellow volunteers to ensure the group spends in line with the charitable objectives and financial information is transparent 
• Work together with the Stroke Association’s Finance Administrator

Skills, attitude and experience needed

Bookkeeper:

• Good numerical skills and able to maintain clear and accurate financial records
• Able to use basic excel and send emails. You will need access to your own computer or device to do this role.

What the role can offer you personally:

As a treasurer and bookkeeper, you will play a significant role in supporting and developing a welcoming community for people affected by stroke.  The role provides an opportunity to engage with your local community and meet new people.  You can be part of volunteering team that provides support, information, reassurance and motivation in rebuilding lives. 

Many of our treasurer, cardholders and bookkeepers say that this role is a great way to engage with, and support, their local community.  They feel like they are making a difference and giving something back.

It also offers you a chance gain and develop professional skills, by volunteering with a well-respected charity.

Training for this role:

We provide all of our support group treasurers, cardholders and bookkeepers with training so they feel confident in the role and give the best possible support to stroke survivors.  All training is over Zoom.

Essential training that you need to undertake for this role is:

• The Stroke Association’s People welcome session (2.5 hours over Learn)
• GDPR (online module over Learn and factsheet)
• Safeguarding training (online module over Learn)
• Finance training modules (total of 3 hours)

We also offer ongoing support and expenses where appropriate.

Where and when you would volunteer:

The bookkeeper can be a remote role, supporting the financial running of a group from your home for approximately 2 hours per month.  As you are not going to the group, you do not need to do the safeguarding training.  You’ll need to do the other essential training though.

The treasurer/cardholder is usually a face to face role, one which requires attending the group sessions for sometimes up to 2 hours a week.  This will depend on how often your local group meets.

Our vision is for there to be fewer strokes, and for people affected by stroke to get the help they need to live the best life they can.

Our core purpose is to be the trusted voice of stroke survivors and their families. We want to drive better outcomes in stroke prevention, treatment and lifelong support for everyone affected by stroke.

St John Ambulance Cymru is looking for to recruit 3 County Recruitment and Onboarding Managers – 1 in Powys, 1 in Gwent and 1 in Dyfed, to lead the way in welcoming new volunteers into our organisation.

This is not about paperwork - it’s about people. As a County Recruitment Manager, you’ll be the face of St John Ambulance Cymru for every new recruit. You’ll inspire confidence, create a warm welcome, and make sure every volunteer begins their journey ready and excited to make a difference.

What you’ll do

• Lead monthly onboarding days - welcoming new volunteers, checking ID documents, organise and support engaging first aid awareness sessions, and helping recruits take their first steps.
• Champion volunteering - representing St John at local events, community fairs, and through online promotion.
• Work with local leaders - ensuring new volunteers get the right training, support, and opportunities.
• Shape the future - this is a newly designed role, so you’ll help develop how we recruit and onboard for years to come.

We are Buttons & Bubbles CIC. We are dedicated to increasing inclusion and representation across society for disabled families.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for volunteers to help with our social media. We want to massively improve and increase our content from TikTok to You Tube. So much goes into social media from the physical filming and scripts to making the small everyday promotional posts to bigger videos, editing and posting them. We need people to help with every aspect of social media  But don’t panic we are not asking one person to do all of this! So keep reading....

Who are we looking for?

• Somebody who is fun loving
• Be creative. Content creation is all about being creative.
• Knowledge or willingness to research algorithms and social media trends.
• Willing to learn or has knowledge of editing and posting videos
• Enjoy building online community
• No previous experience is necessary but a willingness to learn is essential.

What do we expect?

• Must be willing to undertake our training programme which will be done virtually and at a time to suit you.
• Have a basic DBS check (preferably be on the update system)
• Sign our volunteer contract. (If you disagree with anything in it please do discuss it with us and we will be happy to have a conversation and make small changes if appropriate).
• A positive attitude to disability and illness. We are happy to answer questions on this.
