This is an excellent volunteering opportunity for somebody who wants to enhance and develop their digital and social media skills whilst helping animals in need.
Overview of opportunity
As a volunteer Social Media Volunteer, you would play a massive part in ensuring that our branches activities are promoted online whilst creating a positive public profile on social media. You would play a significant role in gaining more awareness and support for animal welfare and helping us come to the aid of more animals in need.
About the RSPCA
Founded in 1824 we have been saving animals for almost 200 years and are proud to be the oldest welfare charity around. It has always been our vision to live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion, so our volunteers and employees work tirelessly to ensure that all animals can live free from pain and suffering.
Through our numerous campaigns, we seek to raise standards of care, and awareness of issues, affecting animals today. We rely heavily on our volunteers who play a significant role in enabling us to carry out this important animal welfare work every day!
The RSPCA South London Branch
The South London Branch is one of the branches of RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by volunteers who have the support of the National Society of RSPCA.
Volunteer Social Media Coordinator responsibilities
- Researching potential influencers, community groups, and online accounts that align with the branch’s mission and values.
- Identifying opportunities for collaboration or content sharing to strengthen the branch’s online presence and support base.
- Monitoring social media trends and gathering examples of engaging content that could highlight the branch in a positive light.
- Tracking audience feedback and online conversations to provide insights that help shape the branch’s outreach strategy.
- Potential to maintain the branch’s Instagram / other social media platforms and respond appropriately to online comments and feedback

Our charity shop in the heart of SW17 7TW is looking for a friendly volunteer to join our team and help make our shop a huge success. Make new friends, have fun, and help us help more animals!
As a volunteer Charity Shop Assistant, you would join a small team working with the shop manager and 1-2 other volunteers to help make it a success and raise vital funds for animal welfare.
About Our Charity Shop
The shop plays an essential role in raising the profile of the RSPCA in our local community and funds for our branch so that we can continue our vital animal welfare work. Our shops sell a mixture of donated items, including clothes, books, bric-a-brac and collectables, and a selection of new items. We have positions available on the shop floor and in our stock room or you could volunteer to do a mixture of both.
Volunteer Charity Shop Assistant responsibilities
- Helping customers in the shop find what they need.
- Accepting donations of items and money from the public.
- Processing sales through the till and card machine, including Gift Aid.
- Sorting through donated items to determine what we can sell.
- Preparing donated items for sale by steaming and hanging and items.
- Merchandising stock on the shop floor.
- Creating attractive shop window displays.
What we are looking for in a volunteer Charity Shop Assistant
- Friendly volunteers who are confident talking to people.
- Retail experience would be ideal but is not necessary as full training will be given.
- We are ideally aiming for someone who is flexible and can offer an ongoing commitment.
- Good communication and numeracy skills.

We are looking for volunteers to develop learning content and resources, such as lesson plans and educational materials, to support our environmental learning goals. This role will focus on creating school-friendly resources for our website and collaborating with educators to enhance our offerings.
The role would include:
- Developing online learning resources for our website (on-going project)
- Designing or tailoring existing lesson plans and activities for schools
- Supporting the creation of ELWP’s Under 18s volunteering policy

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces.
We are looking for social media and content creator leads to participate in our community-led working group who are promoting public awareness and support of the project.
There is opportunity to lead on projects across communications, content creation, social media, PR, newsletters, film, podcasts or any other channels of interest, and facilitate the direction of the working group.
The Comms Circle currently meets every 4 weeks on a Tuesday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely.
You will be at the forefront of our digital strategy to create a huge new biodiverse park and natural swimming ponds. We’re looking for creative and strategic thinkers who can craft compelling narratives and visually stunning content. You should have a deep understanding of social media platforms and analytics tools to measure and optimize our campaigns. Your ability to build and engage with online communities is crucial, as is your skill in managing media relations. While your experienced research skills are crucial, we also value your ability to engage with the community and build partnerships. Experience in conducting community-based research or working with community organisations is important. Following the retirement of two Trustees we’re keen to broaden the range of skills and experiences represented. Our work is guided by people with lived experience, and our Board of Trustees plays a central role in shaping our strategy and ensuring that our values are embedded across everything we do.

Are you interested in becoming the next Treasurer for CARAS?
We are looking for a treasurer to oversee the financial management of the charity and report to the trustees at quarterly meetings about its financial health.
About CARAS
Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS) works with people of refugee backgrounds to provide practical, educational, and social help. We create supportive relationships, networks, and spaces that enable people to access what they need in order to improve their wellbeing and safety. Our team of staff and volunteers run a large range of activities and services which offer a place of welcome to refugees and asylum seekers, working with them to recognise skills and develop potential.
CARAS has become one of the largest providers of refugee support in south London, including working with large numbers of unaccompanied and separated children. We have responded to changes in demographics and are proud of our ability to remain agile.
Role
- Oversee and present budgets, management accounts and annual financial statements to the board
- Ensure that proper accounting records are kept and financial resources are properly controlled, invested in line with good governance, legal and regulatory
- requirements;
- Oversee the charity’s financial reserves,
- Liaise with the finance manager, CEO and any other relevant members of staff
- responsible for the financial activities of the organisation
- Chair the finance working group and manage the agenda
- Monitor and advise on the financial viability of the charity
- Oversee the implementation of and monitor financial controls and adherence to systems
- Advise on the financial implications of the charity’s strategy
- Liaise with the risk lead regarding financial risk management
- Act as a counter-signatory on charity cheques and important applications to funders
- Liaise with the independent examiner/ auditors
What We Are Looking For
- Professional experience in a finance role (charity finance would be a bonus)
- A keen sense of strategic purpose.
- An inclusive leadership style
- The ability to listen and engage effectively.
- An advocate to champion CARAS’s work through personal networks and other channels.
- A strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Flexibility (as a growing charity, it helps to have co-chairs who are available and responsive)
We encourage applications from people who have been through the UK asylum or immigration system, people of colour, disabled people, and LGBTQI+ people.
Time Commitment
Four meetings per year (in the evenings, alternating between online and at CARAS’s office in Tooting), one away day per year (usually at the weekend), leadership of the finance working group, regular meetings with the finance manager, and occasional attendance at activities (this can be arranged either during the day, in the evenings, or weekends).
