Travel and subsistence will be paid for attendance at meetings in accordance with the ARFID Awareness expenses policy where required. Board members are not remunerated for their Board/trustee work.

Overview:

Established in 2019 and supporting a community of over 30,000 families ARFID Awareness UK is the only registered UK charity dedicated to raising awareness and further information about Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder.  As a not-for-profit, we provide individuals, parents, carers and medical professionals with up-to-date relevant information, research and support.

We are equally committed to supporting medical professionals across varying specialities, by equipping them with the information they need to ensure that their patients receive an early diagnosis and have access to appropriate care.

Our charitable aims are to:

1. Raising awareness about the condition within the medical and associated professions and the general public in such ways as the trustees shall determine;
2. Providing advice and information in such ways as the trustees shall determine to enable and empower parents and carers to advocate for the children in their care;
3. Facilitating research into the condition, the useful results of which will be published for the public benefit;
4. Potentially providing grants of financial assistance to enable economically disadvantaged families to obtain necessary treatment and medication unavailable via the NHS.
5. Advancing the education of the public in the subject of ARFID.

With regards to our structure, we are a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). As a CIO, our Charity Trustees are protected with limited liability, and whilst they are responsible for helping to manage the organisation, they do not hold dual roles of Company Director as they might with other charity structures.

Our mission is to remove the uncertainty, ambiguity and frustrations experienced by parents, carers and individuals over obtaining a diagnosis and treatment by providing general advice that may improve their journey.

Time Commitment:

Trustees meet twice a year virtually. Meetings last approximately 2 hours.

The Remuneration Committee meets once per year virtually. Meetings last approximately 1 hour.

In addition, Trustees are expected to allow time for reading of papers and preparation for meetings, attending events training and induction.  As a small charity there may also be a requirement for additional input of approximately 1-2 hours per month specific to your professional background and expertise as we continue through a period of growth.

Purpose of the role:

Board of Trustees

The Board of trustees (the Board’) is the body with the legal duty to protect the mission and vision of ARFID Awareness UK and to ensure that it is run in accordance with legal requirements.

The role of the Board is to provide good governance and leadership by: 

• Shaping ARFID Awareness UK’s organisational strategy 
• Approving organisational statutory policy
• Ensuring the organisation’s financial stability and sustainability 
• Appointing the Executive Director/s (overseen by the Chair of the Board on behalf of the Board) 
• Providing support and constructive challenge to the Executive Director/s and their staff
• Setting and monitoring procedures for assessing and managing risk 
• Taking advice from Board members and external specialist advisors 
• Monitoring strategy performance 
• Representing ARFID Awareness UK externally where necessary

As a charity CIO, Board members are charity trustees only. They do not represent any group or organisation in this role and they must act in good faith and in the best interests of ARFID Awareness UK.

Chair duties:

• Chair and facilitate board meetings
• Provide inclusive leadership to the organisation and the Board by ensuring that everyone remains focused on the delivery of ARFID Awareness UK purpose and delivering strategic and charitable aims
• Ensure that the Board is effective in its task of setting and implementing the organisation’s direction and strategy
• Support each trustee to fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of ARFID Awareness UK
• Support and constructively challenge the Executive Director/s to ensure that ARFID Awareness UK operates in line with statutory and legal requirements and is effective in its outputs
• Ensure financial probity and that all resources are focussed on achieving the aims and objectives of the organisation for the benefit of the membership and delivery of charitable objects
• Appoint the Executive Directors
• Appoint and support the ARFID Awareness UK Treasurer
• Act as an ambassador of ARFID Awareness UK
• Ensure the smooth running of Board meetings, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment

Alongside the Executive Director:

• Planning the annual cycle of board meetings and other meetings where required

Person Specification:

Essential:

• Significant experience of charity governance and trusteeship, demonstrating understanding of best practice and regulatory compliance
• Proven experience of chairing boards, committees or senior leadership teams effectively
• Track record of supporting small to medium organisations through periods of growth, change and development
• Strong strategic thinking and planning skills with ability to provide vision and direction
• Excellent facilitation and interpersonal skills, able to build consensus and manage diverse perspectives
• Confident and effective communication skills including active listening and constructive challeng.
•  Ability to work effectively as a member of a diverse team whilst maintaining independence and accountability as Chair
• Understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of charity trusteeship and Chair role

Desirable:

We're looking for an experienced Fundraising Volunteers to help us find the money we need to keep our club going and grow. This is a vital role where your skills can make a real difference. You'll be working behind the scenes to find new funding opportunities, write strong applications, and help us show funders the amazing impact our club has. Who are we?

We are Buttons & Bubbles CIC. We work with children, young people, families and other professionals associated and affected by illness and disability. We have several different services including inclusive characters, sensory workshops, resources, events, advocacy and more.

What are we looking for?

Do you enjoy art? Graphic design? Are you an amazing illustrator? Then we might just have a project for you. One of our aims is to have every type of disability in every culture, religion and ethnicity depicted through our characters. And yes, we know that’s going to mean a lot of hard work and a lot of characters! But NO we are not asking you to complete this entire project!

We’ve created 11 characters so far that depict a variety of conditions. We want to look at potentially re-developing these characters and starting work on some new ones!

The Fundraising Lead is key in helping ADHDadultUK diversify and 
grow its income to support core operations, projects, and campaigns. Working closely 
with the Chair and other trustees, the Fundraising Lead leads on fundraising planning, 
supports volunteer fundraisers, ensures compliance with fundraising regulations, and 
builds relationships with donors and supporters.

Skills and experience:
• Experience in fundraising, income generation, or marketing, ideally in a charity or
non-profit context (not essential).
• Ability to think strategically and identify new income opportunities.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills; confident in speaking to donors 
and partners.
• Comfortable working with digital platforms (email, online forms, fundraising 
portals, spreadsheets).

Key Responsibilities:

1. Fundraising Strategy:
• Lead the development and implementation of our fundraising strategy aligned 
with the charity’s mission and values.
• Identify suitable funding streams including individual giving, community 
fundraising, corporate sponsorship, grants, and events.

2. Income Generation and Campaigns:
• Oversee and support individual and community fundraising activities (e.g., 
sponsored runs, birthday fundraisers, merchandise).
• Work with trustees, volunteers, and supporters to coordinate campaigns and
appeals.

3. Governance and Compliance:
• Ensure fundraising activities comply with the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of
Practice, data protection laws and the charity’s Ethical Fundraising Policy.
• Maintain appropriate records of donations, donor communications, and income
sources.
• Report to the Board on income generation progress and risks.

4. Support and Collaboration:
• Support the wider team in developing grant applications and fundraising 
content.
• Act as a point of contact for supporters who want to fundraise for ADHDadultUK.

Do you have the passion and commitment to support women experiencing Domestic Abuse to reach a place of safety? We are recruiting volunteers to support our Refuge Referral Line team, which supports women and children experiencing domestic abuse to find a safe, secure, and suitable refuge space across London.

You will join a team of trained staff and volunteers to support women to make a referral, and ensure they have the knowledge and are informed of the best options to reach safety. You will be supporting women and children to rebuild their lives free from fear!

What you will be doing

• Taking calls to assess the risks and needs of the women fleeing from domestic abuse whilst under supervision/guidance of the Referral Line Worker and the Service Manager
• To use a range of skills and tools to make phone conversations with women effective and empowering
• To provide women with knowledge of how to access refuge space and other types of support with the aid of a trained staff team
• General admin support: typing, taking notes, filing, scanning documents, keeping accurate records on our digitalised client management syste

We are recruiting for a Choir Leader Volunteer at our Dame Gertrude Young House which supports men who have mental health needs. Choirs have shown to reduce stress levels and depression as well as creating a sense of togetherness. Your role will be to lead auditions to identify and pick out suitable choir members, provide necessary guidance and direction on tone, rhythm, pitch, tempo, and harmony as well as scheduling choir rehearsals.

What you will be doing

• Direct choir members in warm-ups prior to practices and performances
• Decide on appropriate musical pieces for the choir to perform depending on the occasion and setting and Choose individual choir members to perform solo pieces.
• Lead auditions to identify and pick out potentially suitable choir members.
• Build a structure, choir harmony, Determining voice types
• Provide necessary guidance and direction during choir rehearsals to help choir members in attaining the correct tone, rhythm, pitch, tempo, and harmony.
• Direct choir members during musical performances
• Schedule choir rehearsals
• Craft appropriate choir formations for rehearsals and performance
• Selects music to meet the needs of the performance while also taking into account the group's aptitude and abilities

The skills you need

• Patient, passionate, creative, and assertive and knowledge and experience of working with individuals that live with mental health issues
• Music Education, or related field is preferred
• Experience of directing choirs
• Can interpret various styles of music
• Bold leadership and listening capabilities
• Strong communicator
