Volunteer roles in east of england
Join the board of YMCA and help its work supporting communities through training, wellbeing and social inclusion.
Location: London, WC1H
Closing date: 9 a.m. Monday 17th November
Who we are
Established in 1844, Central YMCA is the founding organisation of the global YMCA movement, now present in over 120 countries.
Central YMCA works at local, regional and national levels, providing high-quality education, training and qualifications. As one of the largest charity Independent Training Providers in the country and the holder of substantial contracts from the Department for Education, Central YMCA provides education and opportunities for employment for young people and adults, irrespective of their background and experience. We work with some of the most socioeconomically disadvantaged groups, and we believe we can have the greatest impact for those falling through gaps in provision or struggling to engage with mainstream provision.
The sectors in which we work have been carefully selected to reflect the Charity’s commitment to supporting careers in areas that are essential for building strong communities. We deliver employability courses, qualifications and apprenticeships in Health and Fitness, Health and Social Care, Early Years and Education, Horticulture and Business Services. We work with key partners in each sector to promote our courses and amplify our reach.
Some of our work is strategically based in socially and economically disadvantaged communities; supporting the vulnerable and those on low incomes, those who have low prior attainment and are facing personal challenges, alongside those needing support through life transitions.
Through our awarding and end-point assessment organisation, Central YMCA also develops qualifications and learning and assessment resources to enable learners to start or develop their careers, predominantly in the physical activity and wellness sector.
Founded in the heart of London in 1844, Central YMCA is the world’s very first YMCA. For over 180 years, we’ve been inspiring people to reach their full potential in body, mind, and spirit. From pioneering youth education and fitness programmes to supporting communities through training, wellbeing, and social inclusion, Central YMCA has always stood for positive change.
Today, we continue that proud tradition by offering recognised training and qualifications, and a range of community programmes that empower people of all ages and backgrounds. We believe in opportunity for everyone — no matter your starting point. Whether you want to improve your health, gain new skills, or make a difference, Central YMCA is here to help you grow stronger, together.
Central YMCA — A historic legacy. A modern movement. Your community.

Unify Giving is building more than just a platform — we’re building a movement around tech for good and social impact. We need a Community Builder to help us connect and grow that movement both inside and outside the organisation.
What you’ll do
-

Support our volunteers: keep in touch, share updates, and make sure people feel connected and valued.

Spot social impact leaders on LinkedIn, Slack, Discord and beyond — and invite them into our Tech for Good Unify Giving channel.

Build your skills in community management, partnerships, and social impact networking.
 -

Minimum 5–10 hours per week, for at least 3 months.
 -

A role with variety: part people, part digital, part creativity.

Who we welcome
No age limits, no “perfect CV” required. If you’re passionate about social impact and love bringing people together — online and offline — this could be the challenge for you.
If you’ve ever wanted to build a community from scratch, this is your chance to do it while making real impact.
Connecting donors directly with individuals expriencing homelessness.

                    Dates: 2 February 2026 – 7 December 2026
Location: Remote (Online via Google Meet)
Commitment: 1 hour per week for 16 weeks
Location: Fully remote
Structure: We provide guidance, resources, and ongoing support, but there is no fixed curriculum.
Mentees: You will be paired with a small group of mentees (typically 6–9), aged 18–26, all fluent in English.
Scheduling: Mentors arrange sessions directly with mentees at mutually convenient times.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome professionals from a wide range of industries. Our current mentors come from backgrounds including law, mental health, business, civil engineering, and architecture. Each mentor is carefully matched with students pursuing similar career paths to ensure meaningful and relevant engagement.
You do not need formal mentoring experience. We are seeking dedicated, emotionally intelligent, and inspirational professionals from around the world who bring real-world experience, strong communication skills, and empathy, and who are passionate about helping others grow.
This is not a traditional mentorship programme — it is a structured pathway designed to help young Afghan women develop the academic and professional skills needed to move forward despite the severe restrictions placed on them inside Afghanistan.
Applicants should hold either a master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of professional experience. They should demonstrate emotional intelligence, clarity in communication, and the ability to guide, inspire, and challenge thoughtfully. A reliable internet connection is also essential.
Our students have completed six levels of English and are now enrolled in one of four mentorship semesters. Each mentee follows her own unique path, whether:
-

Pursuing an online university degree,
 -

Applying for scholarships abroad (Europe or the US), or
 -

Seeking remote work or internships (particularly for qualified professionals currently unable to work inside Afghanistan).

This is an opportunity to make a tangible, life-changing impact. The women in our programme are courageous, determined, and eager to learn, yet they lack access to role models and practical guidance from professionals in their fields.
As a mentor, you will help them take the next step, n whether that means applying for scholarships, building a career portfolio, or gaining the confidence and professional skills to work remotely.
Our long-term goal is to move towards a 1:1 mentor-to-student ratio, ensuring that each young woman receives the personalised support she deserves.
16-Week Semester: 20 January – 24 May 2026
Location: Online (Google Meet & Google Classroom)
Commitment: Approx. 4 hours per week

You do not need to be a qualified English teacher to apply, enthusiasm, reliability, and strong communication skills are most important. However, having teaching experience or a TEFL certificate would be advantageous. Join a multinational team of volunteers from 27 countries.
All curriculum materials, lesson plans, and assessments are provided. Volunteers only need to prepare for classes, teach their lessons, and complete light marking and feedback.
Responsibilities:

Our Story
Talitha Arts was founded by actor, Amanda Root. It began as a small volunteer organisation, primarily offering mental health support by facilitating arts workshops for International Justice Mission in India and working with professionals in aftercare homes for girls rescued from trafficking and violent abuse.
Over the years, our work has expanded to respond to the needs of U.K. organisations working directly with those who have experienced trauma, abuse, violence, homelessness; ex-offenders, refugees, children, and those who are living with dementia.
Every year as part of our mandate, we train new practitioners in the Talitha Approach to deliver our workshops. Our approach is 'person-centred', meaning it is tailored to the individuals we serve. Our practitioners are both professional creative artists and registered therapists who are passionate about the Talitha Mission.
At Talitha, we aim to change the world one life at a time by providing mental health support through the power of the arts.
We do this by delivering programmes of workshops that support creative expression, foster community, and empower through music, movement, drama and the visual arts.
We aim to use the power of the therapeutic arts to enable transformation in those in need of mental health support
