What are we looking for?
We're looking for enthusiastic, creative, and organised people from Exeter and the surrounding areas to become Community Fundraising Volunteers. With around 90% of our income coming from our amazing supporters, we simply couldn't do what we do without them. That's why our community fundraising volunteers are at the heart of our mission - bringing people together to raise vital funds that help protect children and prevent cruelty and abuse.
What will you be doing?
Volunteering in this role will mean you become a valued member of our local community fundraising team. You will engage with the public, local organisations, and your community, and raise awareness of our vital cause. The role will involve attending events, helping us out with spreading the NSPCC's messages across the area, raising funds and just proudly representing the NSPCC and what we stand for. There is plenty of opportunity to make the role your own and support us in a way that works for you!
How regular is the volunteering?
This role is a flexible, 'as and when' volunteering opportunity with no regular time commitment required! We understand that life comes first, which is why this role can easily fit around you and your schedule. A commitment of a couple of hours a month is all we ask for, but if you would like to do more then we would love that too, and there are always plenty of ways to get involved!
What will you get from the role?
In this role, we'll support you with advice, skills and tools to help you raise funds for and awareness of the NSPCC. You'll learn more about how you're helping to protect children across the UK, and of course you will have the opportunity to grow your skills and confidence within fundraising and charity work. It is also a wonderful opportunity to spend time and connect with like-minded individuals who want to do something positive within their community.

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales. Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. What your role will involve
There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:
- Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
- Receiving donated goods from members of the public
- Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
- Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
- Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
- Processing sales and serving on the till

About Us
Unseen Expeditions UK is a newly forming Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) supporting mission-led charities and expedition projects across the UK and internationally. Sterts Arts & Environmental Centre is a dynamic creative hub located on the edge of Bodmin Moor in South-East Cornwall. Our unique 4-acre site is where creativity meets nature at Cornwall's geographical and cultural gateway. Our 500-seat Barn Theatre hosts a diverse range of performances, including theatre, dance, comedy, and live music. Our newly refurbished 70-seat Studio and Community Hub, opening in April 2025, will centre around creativity and community, providing a regular programme of activity and performances for people of all ages.

Charity Structure & Responsibilities
Sterts Arts & Environmental Centre (CIO Number 1189424) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), and in 2024, Sterts Theatre (CIC Number 15422924) was established as a Community Interest Company (CIC), wholly owned by the charity. The charity is looking to appoint more directors to its operational arm, focusing on the theatre operation and programming, events and other activities.
What is a Trustee?
Trustees/Directors must be at least 16 years old. While Trustees/Directors are unpaid, we’ll cover reasonable travel or support costs connected to your role. If you’d like to check anything in advance, feel free to ask.
Trustee Responsibilities
As a Trustee, you will be responsible under Charity Law for overseeing key areas such as employment, health & safety, and financial management. In particular, you will:
- Ensure the charity is fulfilling its purpose for public benefit.
- Comply with Sterts’ governing document and legal obligations.
- Act in the best interests of Sterts and its community.
- Manage Sterts' resources responsibly.
- Use reasonable care and skill in your role.

Commitment and Culture
Our Board meets formally six times a year, but being a trustee is more than just turning up to meetings. It’s about being part of a creative, collaborative, and supportive group that enjoys working together, celebrates successes, and tackles challenges with openness. The pace can vary, sometimes calm, sometimes busy, but always with the shared goal of helping Sterts flourish.
Expectations
As a Trustee, we ask you to:
- Attend six face-to-face meetings per year (typically 2 hours each)
- Participate in occasional extra meetings, both in-person and online
- Act as an advocate for Sterts and its work within the community
- Engage in discussions, making informed decisions, even when these may involve differing views
- Stay informed about Sterts’ activities by reading Board papers and relevant materials.
- Give practical support where possible and regularly attend shows and events

The Democratic Progress Institute (DPI) is seeking to welcome Turkish speaking volunteers to work within the Institute’s Programmes Team. Key areas of focus include conflict resolution and democratic transition processes in Turkey and Syria. Each volunteer will have the opportunity to work closely with – and learn from – the Programme Manager and other team members in planning and implementing DPI project activities, which include roundtable meetings in the region and international comparative study visits, as well as conducting project related research in the Institute’s main areas of interest, which include governance and constitutional reform; DDR and SSR; gender and conflict; the role of the media in conflict resolution and democratic reform process; and transitional justice among others.
DPI seeks candidates with a strong interest in international relations, conflict resolution and democracy building. These volunteer placements begin on a rolling basis and typically last three to six months, are unpaid, and preferably full time. A daily stipend is provided for lunch expenses. Candidate Profile Project Skills:
The successful candidates may be invited to attend external conferences and DPI activities both in Turkey and elsewhere, and to write briefs and take detailed notes on behalf of the Institute, therefore touch-typing/transcribing experience is valued. Projects involve a high level of external communication with the diverse stakeholders engaged with DPI’s work, therefore excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Much of this role will involve administrative assistance to the Programme Manager, including drafting correspondence and filing documentation. Administrative and organisational skills are key, and an enthusiasm for carrying out practical tasks in addition to research or activity related work is necessary in this role. These may include budget preparation, completion of expense reports, logistical planning and assistance.
The successful candidate will be invited to carry out in-depth desk research on behalf of DPI, which will feed into the Institute’s activities. This may include detailed research projects relating to the Institute’s main areas of work, high level briefs, and shorter, ad-hoc research tasks. Excellent research, writing and proofreading skills are highly valued. Many research papers worked on by interns are published on the Institute’s website and used as a resource for programme activities and meetings.
DPI’s Programmes Team operates within a fast paced environment, often planning and implementing ambitious projects to tight deadlines and within high pressured contexts on the ground. It is important that the successful candidate is self-motivated and able to work successfully independently and with minimal supervision.
IT skills are essential (Word, Adobe, PowerPoint) and project management experience is welcome.
Experience with various social media platforms and with social media strategy is an advantage.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven interest in and knowledge of DPI’s areas of focus; namely conflict resolution and democratic advancement (including but not limited to the MENA region).
The successful candidate will have an excellent command of written and spoken English and Turkish

About The Role

At WWT, we shape unforgettable experiences. We bring awe-inspiring nature up close and let it do the talking. In this role you will help to look after our Asian Small-Clawed Otters and Back from the Brink exhibits (which include Water Voles and Harvest Mice) and engage with the public in understanding more about these species and the conservation threats they face.
What will you be doing?
Duties may include some or all of the following:
- Helping to prepare the mammal areas for opening at the beginning of each day – checking exhibits, cleaning windows and public area; ensuring all are correct and safe before the visitors arrive.
- Food preparation and feeding of off show and on show species.
- Cleaning and maintaining of all animal areas.
- Interaction with visitors, answering questions and assisting keeper with public presentations.
- Possible assistance in the Ectotherm Section and Living Wetland Theatre.
- Ensure the safety, welfare and enjoyment of the visiting public.

About You
No formal qualifications are required. However, this role will suit you if you have formal or informal experience or an understanding of animal husbandry and are:
- Practical and physically able.
- Over the age of 18.
- Able to reliably give us 7.5 - 15 hours of their time a week.
- Able to work in a team of staff and volunteers.
- Experienced in a visitor service environment with a strong commitment to excellent customer service.
- Experienced in mammal husbandry (desirable).
- Proactive and able to work under the direction of the Mammal team as well as lone working.
- Keen to support the work of WWT.
- Sociable and customer-focused.
