We are seeking new Trustees and a new Chair to join our committed and dynamic Board.

We have a group of committed Trustees who support and guide the organisation in delivering its key objectives. Sadly, some of those trustees are due to step down in the next twelve months, as is the Chair, and we are beginning a process of recruiting new Trustees and a Chair.

There is excitement and expectation within the current Board and our Executive Team that along with our supporters and partners, we can achieve something special over the coming years.

To reach our potential though, requires the highest level of governance and strategic decision making, which can only be achieved with a talented, experienced and diverse Board of Trustees.

About The Role

The Aviculture department is pleased to offer the opportunity for students to apply to complete their 100 hour work experience requirements within our specialist team. 

In this role you will be assisting the Living Collections - Aviculture team in all aspects of caring for the birds in our living collection which includes rare and endangered species of wildfowl from around the world.

We have 5 placements available throughout June, July, August and September. This opportunity is designed for you to complete your 100 hours within 6 weeks by volunteering for 2 or 3 days per week.

Someone with a background in animal care will find this a varied and interesting role within a supportive and experienced team.  The role is also an ideal placement for someone looking to gain practical experience in animal care / biology / ecology or conservation science. 

Candidates will be identified, chosen and allocated following an informal interview.

You must be Over 18 to apply for this role. 

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You'll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need.

Candidates need to have a genuine appreciation for wildfowl and a knowledge of WWT and what we stand for.

Communication is the key to good teamwork, and bird husbandry volunteers will need to demonstrate exceptional communication skills in order to join our team.

Who will be responsible for your role? Deputy Aviculture Manager and Living Collection Supervisors

Where will you be based? WWT Slimbridge Centre

How much time will it take? We have 5 placements available for students who need to fulfill their 100 hours (or equivalent) for their college or university course.

· Days start at 8.00am and finish at 4.30pm. 

· 2 or 3 days a week attendance is required* so you can complete your 100 hours within 6 weeks.

· These roles can become flexible when sufficient training has been completed.

*some exceptions ie. previous experience.

What will you be doing?

· Shadowing bird feeding according to best practice guidelines.

· Assisting with bird catches and movements.

· Maintenance of pens and breeding facilities.

· Assisting with the cleaning of Duckery ponds, coops and housing facilities.

· Vegetation work, mowing and clearance.

· An induction in bio-security and best practice care.

· Experience communicating with the visiting public.

· The potential for research experience and censoring techniques.

· The potential for experience in bird habitat and exhibit design.

Who are we looking for?

To be effective in this role you will need:

· Experience in animal/bird keeping and practical habitat management.

· An understanding of bird welfare.

General notes:

To make an effective contribution, we are asking you to be available for at least six weeks. Longer placements may be available if you would like to stay with us for a longer time period. This position is entirely voluntary and is therefore unpaid. Any offer of a volunteer placement is not intended to create a legally binding contract between us and any agreement may be cancelled at any time at the discretion of either party. Neither of us intends any employment relationship to be created either now or at any time in the future.

BloodForce

We work in Ghana to eliminate the burden of blood acquisition on providers and patients in crisis by leveraging technology to galvanize the public to increase Ghana’s Blood Collection Index to greater than 10 by 2030, because no patient in crisis should die from unavailability of blood products.

Ghana at 5.6 per 1000 population, is significantly behind WHO minimum standard [10 per 1,000 population] required to meet a country’s basic transfusion needs. As a result, restrictive blood disbursement policies have resulted in delayed care for critical patients in Ghana and in many cases, avoidable deaths.

We believe that public communities can be mobilized to close gaps in health care delivery, particularly in developing countries. BloodForce plans to build an online blood donor community that can reliably and meaningfully increase blood donation rates in Ghana while helping patients and families navigate their blood product health crises. This community will also serve as a platform for advocacy and education, strengthening transfusion services across the country.

Shelter Bucket Collection – Slough Tesco Extra

Role summary

Through their ‘Taste and Tesco’ scheme, the UK’s biggest supermarket offer charities across the UK opportunities to apply for fundraising collections outside their stores. Following a successful application, this bucket collection will take outside the Slough Wellington Tesco Extra, Slough. Volunteers will be required to stand with buckets and card machines asking the public for donations.

Plans to develop our board

We are specifically seeking one or more trustees with a good knowledge and experience of adult social care.  As well as the normal duties of a trustee, you would take a specific interest in our adult care service provision – St Davids House (residential care), Jigsaw (day service) and our Supported Living service.  You would scrutinise the quality and operation of our care services for adults and offer advice and challenge to our staff team as a member of our Adult Care Advisory Committee.  You will liaise closely with the Director of Care and Support.

You may have been a senior manager in an adult care service or have been a commissioning manager within the NHS for people with complex care needs.  You will have a passion for great person-centred care.  Experience of CQC would be an advantage.

The Board meets seven times a year and is also invited to all events and celebrations which is optional.  Trustees are warmly encouraged to attend meetings in person, but if required can attend some meetings online.  Expenses are paid for travel and overnight accommodation can be arranged for those not local to Devon.

Are you a proactive fundraiser and looking to support a small charity? We're looking for 2 energetic and enthusiastic fundraiser volunteers to increase the fundraising opportunities for the charity as well as developing corporate partnerships, legacy giving, individual giving and major donors. This role may also include:

• Develop new and imaginative fundraising activities, many of which involve organising events
• Project manage fundraising events, from inception all the way through to evaluation

• Good initiative and ability to work with little direct supervision but will ask when help is needed
• Be comfortable volunteering within a small team or by yourself

About the Charity: Burning Nights CRPS Support is a UK wide charity that works to improve life for those living with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), their families, loved ones, carers and friends. THE ROLE

The role of the Independent Member is to provide the Finance Committee with knowledge and experience to making key decisions in respect to the organisation’s affairs, ensuring its financial viability and ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained in accordance with the Association’s Bye-laws and in compliance of legal requirements.

Main Responsibilities

· To assist the Finance Committee with the review and monitoring of The Scout Association (TSA)’s financial policies and making recommendations to the Board where appropriate.

· To assist the Finance Committee with recommending the annual budget and financial plan to the Board for TSA and its trading subsidiaries; reviewing performance against this and contributing to the development of the Association’s long term financial plan and strategy.

· To assist the Finance Committee with TSA’s investment policy and asset allocation; the review and recommendation of a rolling strategy for all property and land owned by TSA and to contribute to the development, operation and performance monitoring of all National Centres.

· To contribute to the development of TSA’s Fundraising strategy and monitor performance against this.

· To support the Finance Committee in monitoring financial and deliverable performance against TSA’s Digital and Digital Technology strategies.

· To assist the Finance Committee in recommending to the Board the appointment of external auditors and meeting with auditors to discuss audit plans, fees, and key findings from the audit.

· To contribute to the detailed review and approval of TSA’s statutory accounts.

· To consider decisions and recommendations that involve substantial expenditure outside of budget.

· To assist the Finance Committee in the monitoring of TSA’s insurance arrangements and the financial impacts of TSA’s Pension Schemes, Development Grants Board and other TSA funds and making recommendations to the Board where necessary.

THE PERSON

Skills

· Quickly assimilate a broad knowledge of Scouting’s purpose, policies, activities and structures.

Experience

· All round management experience with some element of either pensions/ investments/ insurance expertise.

· Experience of working in Finance, Financial qualifications (or working towards a qualification).

· An interest in charity finance, fundraising and pension schemes.

· Experience or knowledge of working or volunteering with charitable youth organisations.

· Looking ahead, there is the potential for the Finance Committee to evolve into a broader Audit and Risk Committee. While this role is currently focused on financial oversight, we would welcome applicants who bring additional experience or understanding of internal controls, risk management, and audit practices.

Other essential criteria

The Finance Committee will meet at least four times a year (generally two meetings online and two face to face in Central London), with the requirement to read papers and contribute to occasional discussions and specific issues between meetings. Appointment term

These appointments would normally be for three years (subject to a 6-month review), extendable by mutual consent for a further three years.

Remuneration and expenses

In common with other registered charities, there is no remuneration directly associated with the role, although the Association will reimburse fully for all reasonable and properly documented expenses incurred in performing duties in accordance with the Association’s Expenses Policy.

What is the time commitment?

You'll need to set aside a couple of hours for the training initially and a few more for planning your course or group and connecting with your co-volunteer. Then you'll need a couple of hours per session for facilitating (x6 weekly sessions for a course, or x1 session per month for a group).

Trustees play a vital role in ensuring Wythenshawe Foodbank meets its core purpose by overseeing the management and administration of the charity and ensuring that the foodbank has a clear strategy in line with our vision and goals.

What will you be doing?

Wythenshawe Foodbank are part of the Trussell network. We employ two members of staff and have approximately 30 regular volunteers, in addition to volunteers from local organisations who support us at specific events such as food drives.

We are seeking two new trustees with an interest in helping others, who are willing to uphold the food bank’s values, and who can bring life experience to the board of trustees. Trustees have collective responsibility for the governance of the organisation and for all decisions made by the board. They set the strategic direction for the charity, ensuring alignment to its values, and are responsible for setting organisational policy, defining goals, agreeing the financial plan, evaluating performance, and ensuring that strong relationships are maintained between the trustees, staff, volunteers, and users of the charity’s services.

Key tasks

• approve, support and guide the charity’s purpose, vision, strategy, goals and objectives to manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk and not over-commit the charity
• act with reasonable care and skill, giving your time, thought and energy to your role.
• serve as an additional promoter of the food bank in the community.
• ensure the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law.
• help promote the organisation to a broader audience of potential funders and beneficiaries.
• represent, and present on behalf of, the food bank at meetings and conferences as and when required
• ensure the food bank has appropriate procedures to: comply with current legislation and good practice; including employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
• regularly communicate to the rest of the trustee board via trustee meetings or any other communication, any relevant information and/or developments regarding fund raising or grant applications.
• prepare for and regularly attend and participate in trustee meetings.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for people who want to help their local community and work towards the eradication of food poverty whilst supporting the food bank to continue to provide emergency food to people who find themselves in crisis. Our ideal candidates would demonstrate:

• knowledge of and commitment to the work of Wythenshawe Foodbank
• a commitment to equality, social justice and the need to eradicate food poverty
• willingness to actively participate in discussions concerning the needs of the foodbank’s beneficiaries and staff, and act in the best interest of the charity
• sound, independent judgement and the ability to think creatively
• the ability to work effectively as a team member and demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop 

The food bank would particularly welcome applications from those with experience in one (or more) of the following areas: 

• Funding & Grants, for example: experience of fundraising and writing grant bids; experience of promotion/influencing organisations and businesses regarding donations and fundraising
• Social Media, for example: creating digital and social media strategy and plans to increase engagement, internally in the charity and externally to the public; communications and engagement experience using multiple platforms
