About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Finance Volunteer for our Salisbury and District Group. As a Finance Volunteer, you would be joining a coordinating team of volunteers to plan and deliver services and activities to support people locally.
You will maintain and approve income and expenditure records and explain financial information clearly to other group members. You would ensure our financial requirements and policies are followed, and that money is spent in a cost effective manner.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience with a large charity, develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be comfortable with figures, preferably with an accounting or business background. You will live in the immediate area of the Group, allowing you to meet with other volunteers from the Group.

At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education.
We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient by sharing your first aid skills and knowledge. As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.
Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives.
Through volunteering as a Community First Aider, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time.
We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. Join your local St John Network to learn First Aid skills, to attend events as medical cover, and to pass on your skills and knowledge to local community groups.You will be expected to attend training meetings, and to go out and give talks and First Aid awareness sessions to the local community.
A Welcome Event (Induction) will take place at the Devizes and Central Wiltshire Network after all screening and checks have been completed.
Training for role will take place 13th/14th September 2025.

What will you be doing?
This role involves leading on fundraising and grant applications at board level, ensuring that the Board of Trustees are aware of and kept up to date with any fundraising or grant developments.
Key tasks
Trustee (Fund Raising & Grants Lead) Responsibilities:
- to work alongside the Chair, Treasurer and the rest of the board to develop a fundraising and grants strategy and identify what funds are required to be generated to ensure the effective running of the charity
- to work alongside the trustee board to ensure that all grants are sought and written with the purpose of meeting the charity’s vision and objectives
- to work with the chair to organise local fund-raising opportunities to support the running of the charity, including incorporating national Trussell fundraising campaigns/events throughout the year
- oversee, with operational management support, the writing of high-quality grant applications that are in line with the charity’s vision and objectives
- to regularly communicate to the rest of the trustee board, via trustee meetings or any other communication, any relevant information and/or developments regarding fund raising or grant applications
Other responsibilities, along with the board of trustees, include:
- to approve, support, and guide the charity’s purpose, vision, strategy, goals and objectives
- to manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk, and not over-commit the charity
- to ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity, responding to changes in the local community as appropriate to ensure that key risks are identified, monitored, and controlled appropriately
- to ensure appropriate financial plans are in place, budgets are monitored, and progress is evaluated
- to review and approve financial statements
- to help promote the organisation to key stakeholders and beneficiaries
- to ensure the charity has appropriate procedures to comply with current legislation and good practice, including employment, health and safety, equity, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding, and GDPR compliance/data protection
- to prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days

The charity has seen significant growth and development over recent years, with expansion of our Trees for Streets, Trees for Schools and Trees for Neighbourhoods programmes in towns and cities across the UK. We currently seek a Trustee with fundraising expertise to join our Board. This is a new role and an exciting opportunity to support the charity as we embark on our new strategic ambition to take a prominent, influential and leading role in urban forestry. We are particularly looking for someone with senior-level strategic experience and networks in corporate and grant fundraising.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The trustee will maintain an overview of Trees for Cities’ fundraising strategy. The trustee will work closely with the Board and Executive Team, particularly the Chief Executive and Fundraising Director, to support the charity in pursuing its vision and mission and achieving its agreed objectives. In addition to the skills, experience and qualities required of all Trustees, this trustee will have significant senior-level experience of fundraising strategy, policy and regulations as outlined in the person specification.
