Time expectation

This volunteer role involves being available for a mix of weekly drop-in IT sessions in which you will provide ‘floating support’ as well as pre-arranged one-to-one sessions in order to help clients complete more specific tasks relevant to them.
Digital Inclusion provides a crucial resource, helping people to take positive steps to improve their lives, by overcoming digital exclusion, accessing learning and securing work. In an average session, clients undertake independent learning and tasks, such as; completing searches on the internet, formatting documents and using email, paying bills, filling in forms etc
Increasingly, clients are asking for help with social media platforms, such as; logging into Facebook account, creating a LinkedIn profile or Instagram account to promote their business, or help with blogging.
How does this role make a difference?
All of life’s activities - including job seeking, accessing and managing benefits and housing - take place online. Clients without IT skills are hugely disadvantaged. This role provides clients with support, helping them to overcome initial fears or learning barriers. With increasing confidence, they will be able to access the internet independently.
Who will you be helping?
Users are adults from diverse backgrounds and can range from those who are complete computer beginners, learning the basics of IT, to those needing access to the resource for learning, job search or managing household finances. The service helps clients seeking to address digital skills gaps and improve their confidence in order to access the internet.
What will you be doing?
- Meeting clients and carrying out weekly, one-to-one coaching sessions
- For the remaining time, offering ‘floating support’ to other clients, such as completing searches on the internet, formatting documents and using email
· Helping new clients to complete an IT Initial Basic Skills Assessment
What are we looking for?
- Although advanced technical skills are not required, a good understanding of MS Office (Word and Excel mostly) and a breadth of experience in using the internet are essential in order to coach and help vulnerable clients develop their skills.
- The confidence and willingness to work closely with clients and actively approach them where required.
· You have some experience assisting or coaching others.
· You are patient, a good listener and have the ability to motivate others.
· You are available for a period of at least six months to give you time to develop a rapport and fulfil learning objectives with the clients.
What is the time commitment?
We have open access and prebooked sessions for clients twice a week, on Mondays or Fridays, for a miniumn 3 hour slot per week.
We are asking for a 6 months commitment to enable you to build trusting relationships with clients and develop in your role. Volunteers find this goes very quickly!
How will you be supported?
· There is ongoing support by the Learning and Employment Manager.
· Free access to a range of e-learning modules on the Centre’s online e-learning platform
· You will be reimbursed for reasonable and agreed ‘out-of-pocket’ expenses such as travel, and also lunch if volunteering a full day.

- Trustees may be invited to attend Pony Club events such as the Championships, the Pony Club Conference, and Trustee away days.
- New Trustees will attend an induction at The Pony Club Office in Warwickshire and are expected to complete NCVO Charity Trustee Induction Training if new to the role of Trustee.
- The role is voluntary, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Refugee Action Kingston (RAK) is an active and forward-looking charity based in Kingston Upon Thames. We help refugees and people seeking asylum to access essential services, including immigration and welfare advice, English classes, counselling and support into employment, volunteering and training.
We are a small charity that has significant impact: last year we assisted over 2000 individuals. RAK won the Best in Supporting Young People award and was Highly Commended at the Kingston Borough Business Awards (KBBA) in 2025.
The charity is seeking to recruit a volunteer chair of trustees, and would suit someone who has management experience in public or voluntary sector organisations. The chair will work closely with the CEO to help guide our next chapter of growth, providing governance and strategic direction inline with RAKs mission and values. And to help a small user-led charity that has become reputationally successful and punches way above its weight to grow sustainably, yet at speed, into its next iteration and be able to serve more families?
Founded in June 2020 , The Belay Foundation was created to fill an urgent need for practical ‘in-home’ support to families whose children have previously been in local authority care. We were awarded charity registration in December 2020 and were soon working with families and Local Authorities across the UK. Our main areas of focus are: finding, training and supporting people who can offer trauma-responsive childcare and respite; disability benefits advice to families and young people; training professionals and parents to understand and respond to the impact of early-life trauma.
Currently, The Belay Foundation has an income of £120k and has supported over 400 families. Feedback from those families is very positive and reflects the change from crisis to coping. We are currently conducting a major review of our services and business model to enable us to relaunch services which can be scaled to the next level and respond to an ever-expanding need. This review is being led by our new CEO, Libby McVeigh, who looks forward to working with our new Treasurer to ensure that our financial systems and processes match our ambition.
Role Description
As a trustee you will:
- Meet regularly (mostly online and in the evening) with the other trustees to shape, drive and monitor the charity’s strategy

- Oversee the preparation and scrutiny of annual accounts
Person specification
Essential:
- Qualified accountant (ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) or experienced senior finance professional
- Some experience of charity finance and fundraising, with an understanding of core accounting principles and charity reporting requirements
- Excellent financial acumen, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-finance trustees
- Ability to scrutinise financial processes and budgets, and a willingness and ability to support with operational financial tasks
- An interest in good governance and strategy
- Experience of providing oversight of operations in an organisation
- Excellent communication skills
- Collaborative, enthusiastic and empathetic
- Able to offer 6+ hours per month in Trustee and other meetings and in small group/1:1 support; and attend one in-person away day each year.
Preferable but not essential:
- Experience of a trustee role
- Personal or professional interest in adoption, special guardianship and/or kinship care
- Experience in supporting the growth of a small organisation from its origins to its next stage

Number Champions supports London primary school children who struggle with numeracy. Independent evaluation shows our highly positive impact. We seek two capable and committed trustees to help drive our strategy and oversee delivery.One new trustee may become Vice Chair.
What will you be doing?
Numeracy, like literacy, is a core life skill. However, many children do not learn well in a classroom setting. Number Champions was the first and is still the only UK charity focused on supporting primary school children who struggle with numeracy. By helping children improve their confidence, enjoyment, and skills in maths, we support their wider development and help them achieve their potential.
Our trained volunteers run weekly one-to-one sessions with each child, during the school day but outside the classroom. They use games and other creative activities to engage the child and to enable them to build confidence and skills. Experienced teachers volunteering with us as “Mentors” provide support.
The trustee board meets about seven times a year. It sets strategic direction, reviews all aspects of the charity in rotation, and takes corrective action where it identifies that we are not achieving our planned objectives. All trustees are expected to study the papers for each meeting and to contribute to all discussions. We currently have eight trustees with two reaching the end of their terms, so we will be eight again after the recruitment process.
You would use your experience, skills, and current awareness to identify risks and opportunities to bring to the board’s attention, and you would influence the other trustees to follow your ideas through to implementation.
Board meetings alternate between in-person in London and online.
We encourage trustees to meet our volunteers and staff, and to ensure that their experience and voice is taken into account in directing the charity.
What are we looking for?
You will:
- bring relevant senior experience from any sector, including education, business, professional, or charity.
- have skills which would enhance the capability of the board. The attached role descriptions list skills, but we are open to other skills you can offer which you can persuade us would be important to the charity.
- function effectively as part of a team, thinking creatively and strategically, listening, stating your position clearly and succinctly, and accepting group decisions.
- be open, deliver on commitments and show attention to detail without losing sight of the big picture, and understand your own strengths and weaknesses.
- be enthusiastic about our mission to help children achieve their potential.
- devote time to reading papers and attending board meetings and to progressing issues as needed between meetings – probably about ten to twelve hours a month.
- ideally have experience in fundraising or volunteer management, but this is certainly not a requirement for the roles.

The Maritime Archaeology Sea Trust is seeking a new trustee to support our exceptional Board of existing trustees.
About Us
MAST is a registered UK charity, founded in 2011 by maritime archaeologist and author Jessica Berry, to address the gulf in the way our maritime Underwater Cultural Heritage is protected in contrast to land-based archaeology. We are considered the foremost maritime archaeological organisation in the UK, providing full-cycle maritime archaeological services, from discovery, recording, excavation and conservation of the artefacts for the public to enjoy and understand. We exist to fill a long overdue void in our understanding of our nation’s rich maritime heritage, to ensure that there is a sustainable future for such sites, through archaeology, research, study and dissemination.
MAST is accredited to the Governing Bodies of the UNESCO Convention on Underwater Cultural Heritage 2001.
