We are seeking a new Chair of Trustees to guide our Board and shape the future of our 170-year-old charity, as we enter a new strategic period. 

What will you be doing?

We are seeking a committed and strategic Chair to lead our Board of Trustees. This role offers an opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of children whose parents work in the UK fashion and textile industry. The Chair will provide governance oversight, help shape our long-term strategy, and play a key role in building networks which will ultimately lead to raising essential funds to continue our work.

What are we looking for?

Proven leadership experience at board, executive, or senior management level. Passionate about improving outcomes for families in the fashion and textile workforce. Strong understanding of the UK charity or nonprofit sector, with a commitment to best governance practices. Well-connected within fashion, textiles, business, or philanthropic circles, with the ability to open doors and build partnerships. Experience with fundraising or income generation, especially through corporate engagement or grant funding. Excellent communication, advocacy, and facilitation skills. Empathetic, inclusive, and collaborative leadership style.

As part of our Board, you will act as a key ambassador for the charity, helping to raise its profile within the fashion and textile industry and beyond. 

To also support the development of impact measurement, reporting, and transparency in grant-giving processes.

You’ll shape clear, compassionate messages that empower thousands of people living with Long Covid-right from your home. With your strong editing and writing skills, you’ll make a direct contribution to our cause by refining how we inform, support, and inspire both our community and the wider public. You’ll edit, proofread, and occasionally draft a variety of content, including website pages, blogs, newsletters, reports, policy briefings, and campaign materials.

What are we looking for?

You’re a confident writer and editor with a keen eye for detail, able to adapt tone and style to suit diverse audiences. You thrive on meeting deadlines and managing your own time remotely, and you’re passionate about using clear, inclusive language to support our community. Ideally, you’ll bring experience from health related charities or a lived-experience led setting, though this is desirable rather than essential.

By volunteering with Long Covid Support, you will directly influence public understanding of Long Covid. Your work will help thousands find reliable information, connect with peers, and ensure their voices shape research and services.

Key Responsibilities:

Description: Generally, interns assist the Legal Director and Legal Project Managers with all aspects of preparatory work for the AIRE Centre's legal advice services and cases, including:

· Legal research in support of cases.

· Correspondence with the client, the court or other legal professionals.

· Accompanying the legal team during hearings.

· Keeping effective files.

· Drafting advice letters for the advice service on the EU Settlement Scheme and associated areas, including eligibility for benefits.

In addition to the above, interns may be requested to assist with:

· Undertaking research for articles, both for publications of the AIRE Centre, and for outside journals/publications.

· Undertaking projects in which the AIRE Centre is asked to take part.

· Attending meetings/conferences/seminars on behalf of the AIRE Centre.

All Legal Work is supervised.

To be eligible you must:

· Have a completed law degree/GDL or equivalent

· Have a good understanding of the areas of Law in which the AIRE Centre works (EU Free movement, EU Migration, asylum etc)

· Have a good standard of written and spoken English.

All our internships are unpaid; however, we do cover up to £30 of expenses for travel and lunch
