We have lots of opportunities at flexible times, including speaking to customers and operating the till on the shop floor, tagging clothes and steaming in the back room and much more. 

No experience is necessary as full training is provided.

Volunteering in the shop

Mary's Living & Giving for Save the Children is unique - a vibrant result of the generous gifts of local individuals and companies being turned around by the skills and passions of volunteer teams, to create a destination retail experience. Selling womenswear, menswear, shoes, and bags to household goods, our shops can be found in the London villages and bring in vital funds for Save the Children.

Our Wimbledon Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

What happens next?

After you’ve filled in an application, we will invite you for an informal trial shift. It’s a great opportunity to visit the shop, meet some of our existing volunteers and have a go at some of the tasks that you would be supporting with as a shop volunteer. Hopefully allowing you to get a feel for the role and make sure it’s for you. We also ask for a couple of references (these don’t have to be formal workplace ones, just someone who has known you for over 6 months and isn’t related).

Trustee with Fundraising Experience 

About NWR 

NWR (National Women’s Register) is a membership charity aiming to stop social isolation in women.  It was founded in 1960 by Maureen Nicol in response to a letter in the Guardian bemoaning how women became isolated when they gave up their careers to raise their children.  Maureen set up NWR as an alternative to WI, with the aim of meetings focusing on non-domestic, stimulating topics.  60 years later NWR is still connecting women, albeit an older generation of +55 years, with 315 local groups and a thriving online community.

Trustee Role 

Our current Board of Trustees are all members of NWR, and we are seeking a voluntary, external Trustee to bring a different dimension to the Board.

We are looking for someone experienced in working in the charity sector, in particular a membership organisation, and who is committed to our objectives. In addition, our ideal Trustee is someone with successful skills and experience of working in a fundraising role, who could advise us on accessing and applying for grants. 

The board holds quarterly Trustee meetings that last approx. 3-4 hours. These are usually on Zoom, but we try to meet face-to-face once a year. Additionally, our Head of Operations & Development is seeking some ad hoc fundraising and bid writing mentorship.

Bright Futures UK is looking for passionate and knowledgeable A-Level Maths tutors to provide educational support and a fun, safe learning environment for young people living with serious illnesses. 

What will you be doing? 

Run tutoring sessions online to support a young person. 

Offer subject area knowledge and expertise related to A-Level Maths. 

Help to combat social isolation through fun and engaging tutoring sessions. 

What are we looking for?

Joining this role means you'll be at the heart of providing essential support to families facing the unimaginable; caring for their child who's life will be short.

Many families in Wales are unfortunately facing this challenge alone, without support from others.

As a Practical Family Support Volunteer for Tŷ Hafan, you will assist families in need with various light tasks such as cleaning, tidying up and laundry.

Your contribution will go beyond housekeeping; it's about taking some of the pressure off and giving families the breathing space they need to spend more precious time together.

This role offers the satisfaction of knowing you are making a positive impact on families with a child with a life-shortening condition, by helping them create a tidy, clean and safe home environment that reduces their daily stress and worries.

Most importantly, you will be helping us to ensure that no family faces this challenge, alone.

Considerations:

Age requirement: 21+

Location: Across South & West Wales (in your local area)

Time commitment: Flexible and can be adjusted to accommodate your personal schedule. The support plans designed for referred families are typically structured to span a period of six weeks.

Background checks: Enhanced DBS check, 2 references and induction/training course required before starting.

Due to the nature of the role, we are looking for volunteers with some skills, experience and knowledge of gardening, either as a profession or as a hobby.

Activities include:

Activities include helping families with light housekeeping tasks such as; cleaning, dusting, vacuuming and laundry, giving them the space they need to be there for their child who needs them.

We are looking for volunteers who:

You will receive a comprehensive introduction to Tŷ Hafan and your role, to include an in-person Induction and Training Programme as well as additional e-learning.

Other role and organisation specific training is available including both supplementary and mandatory training.

All volunteers must maintain their mandatory training to continue in their role.

Do you have 1-3 hours every two months spare to become a Mencap befriender volunteer?

We support a gentleman who would like for somebody to visit him for company and friendship. He enjoys time at home, watching TV, playing board games and baking, but mostly enjoys being outside when the weather is fine. He enjoys taking walks, cycling, bowling and meals out and would love for a friend to spend time and enjoy doing this with him. He would like to meet a volunteer to get to know and eventually enjoy getting out and about.

We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.

This is a Stop and stay, let’s get busy visitor role which means the person you will be visiting can communicate actively with you and take part in choosing or planning activities. As you get to know each our you may choose to ‘go out’ either with or without support from the staff that supports the person you visit. Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tends to be around an hour or longer, depending on what you do.

In this role you will spend quality time with the person you visit and could do a range of different activities like: • Sitting and having a chat • Checking in on their well- being • Going out to a local café/pub for a meal/drink • Enjoying a walk • A craft activity at home • Reading a book/magazine together

The Senior Chef is responsible for the daily planning and preparation of the on-board menus, training of the Galley Team, hygiene, safety and cleanliness of the Galley areas. This position supports the Food Services Manager by ensuring the Galley Team Leaders have everything they need to complete their daily tasks and supply the crew with well-balanced, nutritious, and enjoyable meals.

   Ensure coordination for supplies and food preparation between Galley teams.

• Contribute and coordinate with Food Services Manager for the 6-week menu and long-term supply order.

• Oversight of cleanliness and hygiene of Galley areas by conducting daily spot checks.

• Carry out final walk-through of the Galley in the evening to ensure high standard of cleanliness and all equipment is switched off and stowed appropriately.

• Train Galley crew in preparation, hygiene and safety procedures as laid out in Food Services SOP.

• Take lead on special functions and coordinate for events requiring catering.

• Working outside of regular hours as required.

• Assist the Food Services Manager.

• Attend departmental meetings on all workdays.

• Encourage the family to find ways to be self-supporting and teach them about planning for the future

• Assist in reaching out to local healthcare professionals who care for palliative patients, build meaningful relationships, assess their practical and intellectual needs and assist them in sustainable and culturally appropriate ways, through mentoring and teaching
