As a Grassroots Organiser, you will play a pivotal role in making this vision a reality by organising campaign events and actions in your local area and bringing together a community of like-minded people to advocate for animals.

As a Grassroots Organiser, you will change animal lives by:
- Organising events and actions in your local area
- These will include peaceful protests, public outreach, social meet-ups and leafleting.
- Ideally you will organise 1 event every 1-2 months
- We will provide you with all the support and materials you need, as well as covering relevant expenses
- Growing a community of advocates by promoting your events and encouraging others to join you, bringing people together for the animals to create change
- Joining us at national events organised by staff team
- Taking campaign actions remotely, such as writing emails, letters and social media actions
- And much more!
If you’re excited by the prospect of leading and organising effective actions at a local level, all while making a genuine difference to animals, this is the role for you.
You will be supported directly by THL staff members who will steward you throughout your time with us, including a full onboarding process to get you started. No prior experience is needed and we’ll give you everything you need to build your skills and take action.
There is no set time commitment for this role, all we ask is that you can organise at least 1 event every 1-2 months. On average, it takes around 4-6 hours to deliver an event (including planning and delivery).
Whether you're retired, working full time, a student, or somewhere in between - we would love to welcome you to our community.

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.
You can expect us to

What we need from you
You’ll be:
· supporting and encouraging a team of fundraising volunteers
· planning fundraising events and activities with your team
· allocating tasks before and during fundraising events
· keeping financial records from fundraising events
· encouraging and promoting a professional image of Cats Protection
· following policies and guidelines and ensuring licences and permits are obtained for events
Time expectation
Our fundraising team leaders usually spend three to four hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

The Welfare Benefits Unit offers specialist welfare benefits advice to those who work with members of the public. Our experienced advisers provide independent support through our advice line, publications, training, consultancy, campaigns and projects.
The Welfare Benefits Unit aims to maximise benefit take-up, helping to reduce the incidence and impact of poverty and in doing so improve health, well-being, financial and social inclusion. We are a registered charity based in York. We primarily operate in North Yorkshire and York although some of our services are accessed by organisations working further afield.
We continue to aim towards a board that reflects the populations we work to support, and as such, welcome individuals from diverse ethnic communities, LGBTQIA+ groups, as well as younger people, those with disabilities, and those who have lived experience of the welfare benefits system.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
We welcome and support applications from those new to being a Trustee. We also know that studies have shown some people are less likely to apply for positions unless they believe meet every requirement in the description. The most important thing for us is to find Trustees that connect with our values and who can readily buy into our mission. Though we have suggested skills and experience areas below, which would be keen to hear from, we’re eager to meet people that believe in our mission and can contribute to our board in a variety of ways – not just candidates who tick all the boxes.
We’re keen to add these areas of skills and experience to our board:
- Financial, legal or HR matters (especially as they may apply to a small charity)
- Expertise in marketing, digital or similar technological areas
- Welfare benefits system and welfare rights advice or lived experience.
About the Role
All Trustee positions are voluntary with reasonable expenses remunerated. To be an effective Trustee, you will need to commit up to 1-2 days per quarter to attend and prepare for board meetings which are held virtually.
Effective Trustees support our work by:
- ensuring we are working towards our vision, mission and values in everything we do
- ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources, maintaining proper financial and regulatory oversight and best practice as a charity
- approving the annual budget, and supporting strategic decision-making by actively contributing advice and guidance
- appointing key personnel such as the Chief Executive, and determining pay and conditions for the wider team
- constructively guide the Senior Leadership Team in the delivery of the organisation’s strategy
- actively representing and championing the work of the Welfare Benefits Unit.

Due to the four-year term ending for a number of our trustees, Active Humber are looking to recruit to the following Board vacancies:
- Chair of the Board
- Senior Independent Director
- Welfare and Safety Director
- Non-Executive Trustee
These are crucial roles for our Board, and we are looking for people who share our passion and energy to work with us to create a happier, healthier and stronger community across the Humber. To achieve our goals, we need a board of trustees who are as diverse as the people we are trying to reach.
Active Humber is a registered charity and is one of 42 nationwide Active Partnerships who are funded by Sport England to improve lives through physical activity and sport.
Our vision is that the Humber is a place where everyone, everyday is physically active.
Our mission is to get the most physically inactive to be active.
Our role is to help people think differently about physical inactivity.
What is it like to be a Board Member at Active Humber?
The Board at Active Humber is integral to what we are trying to achieve in the Humber. If you join us as a trustee you will help to lead Active Humber to achieve their mission and purpose - you might ask questions to challenge us to think differently, make suggestions to move things forward, or act as a sounding board for ideas.

What we’re looking for:
We’re seeking individuals who are enthusiastic about our vision and have the time and skills to contribute to the board. We are particularly looking for expertise in one or more of the following areas;
- Experience of chairing a Board
- Knowledge of Safeguarding and Welfare, in relation to Children and Young People and/or Adults at Risk
- Experience of governance matters, or legal issues
- Experience within environmental sustainability matters
- An understanding of equality and inclusivity
