Trustee Duties

• Support and provide advice on Safer Places’ purpose, vision, goals and activities
• Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation
• Oversee Safer Places’ financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress
• Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation

What is the purpose of this role?

To provide personalised digital/IT support to older people

What impact does this role have?

Supports older people to gain or improve technical skills and to become digitally included. This inclusivity results in reduced loneliness and isolation and helps older people lead more healthy and independent lives.

What activities might you be involved in?

The purpose of this role is to provide personalised digital/IT support to older people to gain or improve technical skills and to become digitally included. This may include but is not limited to supporting with digital access & building confidence skills & motivation to access the opportunities of the internet.

What are we looking for?

· Individuals with an interest in the wellbeing of older people and who are committed to volunteering

· IT literate with good digital skills and who are confident using different Apple and Android devices (including smart phones and tablets, laptops, and smart speakers).

· Individuals who can work with learners with different levels of knowledge and skill and to be able to demonstrate empathy when needed.

· Excellent interpersonal skills.

· Commitment to complete our Volunteer Report Form accurately and regularly.

· Ability to travel to visits either by car or public transport.

When would you be needed to volunteer?

Volunteering will be on an ad hoc basis to meet the needs of the older person that you are supporting in line with your availability.

What training will you be given?

You will be given all the training you need to enable you to carry out your role which will include a thorough departmental induction.

Nomad Health Initiative

Nomad Health Initiative is an early-stage venture building data-driven access to Healthcare for last-mile Pastoral Communities in Northern Kenya.

Nomad Health Initiative addresses the interconnected social and environmental challenges that affect the health and survival of nomadic and pastoralist communities in Northern Kenya, particularly in regions like Moyale and North Horr. These challenges include:

1. Limited Access to Healthcare • Challenge: Nomadic families live in remote, scattered Manyattas, often over 50 km from the nearest health facility. • Impact: Women miss antenatal care, babies remain unimmunized, and preventable illnesses go untreated, leading to high infant and maternal mortality rates.

2. Marginalization of Nomadic Communities • Challenge: Pastoralist populations are often excluded from national health planning due to their mobility and lack of infrastructure. • Impact: They are underserved in health budgets, data collection, and public health outreach, widening the health equity gap.

3. Malnutrition and Child Mortality • Challenge: Chronic drought, food insecurity, and displacement have led to rising malnutrition rates among children under 5. • Impact: Increased cases of stunting, wasting, and preventable deaths — often undetected until critical.

4. Climate Change and Displacement • Challenge: Recurring droughts and resource-based conflicts displace families and limit access to water and food. • Impact: Health services become harder to deliver; mothers and children are more exposed to disease and mental stress.

5. Stigma and Invisibility of Disability • Challenge: Children with disabilities in pastoralist communities are often hidden or neglected due to stigma and lack of support. • Impact: They miss out on early intervention, education, and basic health services.

Nomad Health Initiative delivers last-mile, culturally sensitive healthcare to nomadic and pastoralist communities in Northern Kenya who are often left out of the formal health system. We professionalize frontline health workers and digitizing the healthcare access, on a path to reach more and more pastoral women and children.

The Feminist Shop

The ethos behind is to explore and fuel feminism from different angles: education (content), ethical shop, community creation and more! We give back to the cause through information, profit sharing, supporting companies with the same values in the process, and taking care of the ethics.

All the products are not only ethically produced but conceived to be wearable activism: statement makers & conversation starters.

It has, since its conception evolved and now it is now also focused on the work of Virginia, the founder, as author, consultant and trainer on topics related with gender equality.

We want a more equal world for everyone (#NoPressure). Fight the stigma around the word feminism, educate about the importance of gender equality, empower people to challenge gender stereotypes and become part of the solution.

We want to be is the brand that helps people no matter where they are in their journey, and we do it in many different ways!

• Ethical products that are conversation starters and statement makers
• We sell (and recommend) over 300 books! whatever you are curious about it we probably have a book about it!
• Virginia has written 2 children's books (one about gender stereotypes and one about consent) and a parenting book.
• Training, consulting, public speaking… something bespoke for your organisation (school, business, community…)

We couldn't be here without some help! The shop is not profitable yet but we still donate a % of the revenue and care deeply about creating something we are proud of. We want to be able to have a team one day and grow the project but at the moment we need to scale and get there. We fight for gender equity through system-level change by educating about and advocating for living in sync with your cycle.

Period Reality aims to address period related issues and stories by sharing the real life stories from girls and women globally. Although half the population experiences a menstrual cycle, the stark contrast in the different realities of girls and women is very real and through storytelling we aim to educate and provide relatable content.

Through sharing stories from girls and women focused on their common humanities. Even though our realities might be very different depending on many factors (physical, geographical, socio-economical, mental etc.) we all share a lot of the same questions, worries, dreams, anxieties, ambitious etc. Making these stories relatable and accessible will educate and inspire and create a movement of girls and women being able to first and foremost understand their own cycle, in order to be kind to themselves.

Swindon and Gloucestershire Mind is looking for compassionate, values-led individuals to join our Board of Trustees. This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in guiding one of the region’s leading mental health charities at a time of growth and transformation.

As a Trustee, you’ll support strategic decision-making, champion inclusive and community-based mental health services, and help ensure strong governance and financial sustainability. You don’t need prior board experience—we’re looking for people with diverse backgrounds, fresh perspectives, and a shared commitment to improving mental health for all.

We’re especially interested in hearing from people with lived experience of mental health challenges, as well as those with expertise in finance, safeguarding, digital strategy, income generation, clinical services, or HR.

Our board meets around 8–10 times a year, usually in the evenings. The average time commitment is 2–4 hours per month, and we provide a full induction, training, and reasonable expenses.

By joining us, you’ll be part of a passionate, forward-thinking team helping to create a future where everyone facing a mental health challenge is recognised, valued, and supported.

We are ideally looking for experience at executive and non-executive board level especially with strategy development,  implementation and delivery.

The Benevolent Fund is the independent charitable arm of the MOD run Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC – aka the “Unit”) – it operates beyond the limitations of the public purse by providing specialist equipment, grants, staff initiatives and occupational, social and adventurous activities to enhance and optimise DMRC’s rehabilitation outcomes.

The DMRC Benevolent Fund exists to provide essential welfare and social rehabilitation opportunities to service personnel who find themselves recovering from life changing injuries and illness whilst in active service. By offering support to staff and welfare provision to patients we aim to complement and enhance medical interventions to support the achievement of optimal outcomes for patients.

The rewards from working with the DMRC Ben Fund are immense – we work on the front line of defence rehabilitation, and we are always busy. Our Trustees and committee members are a passionate group of volunteers, drawn from military and civilian backgrounds. Moreover, relationships between Unit, Board, volunteers and beneficiaries are very strong.

Previous military experience is not required although we are keen to receive applications from former patients and military personnel who have had a life-changing illness or injury or support those that have. Grants & Bids Writing Volunteers Role Overview

The Africa Health Organisation (AHO) will be 25 years old on 14 August 2025. We seek Grants and Bids Writing Volunteers to join us celebrate our Silver Jubilee from across the world to help us apply for funding from major donors, development aid agencies and public sector tenders.

Duties and Responsibilities

 Grant writing

• Developing and writing grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organisations.
• Assembling and submitting grant requests, including letters, proposals, and budgets.
• Track and create a calendar of grant opportunities - including deadline dates, required materials,
• Researches and identifies potential sources of funders and corporate and governmental funding.
• Complete and submit grant applications to secure funding

 Tender & Bid Writing

• Write and submit tenders to win contracts.
• Maintaining awareness of tenders, acquiring PQQ questionnaires and tender documentation.
• Responding to tender invitations from the UK and other governments, EU tenders, the public sector and local authorities from the UK in areas such as health and social care.
• Recruit partners for the EU grants & tenders and other tender projects.
• Collating the input of contributions to create a coherent and well-structured final tender and ensuring the timely submission of tenders and other proposals.

Funding and Finance

The role will involve seeking and securing funding and finance for the specific goals, objectives, targets, and outcomes. You will work with the AHO President, the Board and senior management to research and identify public, private, philanthropic, individual giving, and legacy funding and finance. Each volunteer will have the opportunity to choose their goal and set a fundraising target to achieve.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required

• Degree in any subject area that results in superb language writing skills, including grammar, clarity and style.
• Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organised and have experience using online databases and other sources to locate biographical, financial, and philanthropic information.
• You MUST have at least 3 years of experience writing and delivering successful grants and tenders, especially for public health contracts such as health checks, smoking cessation, etc., from the UK government, NHS, DOHSC, Ministry of Justice, London authorities, and county councils.
• An understanding and passion for issues affecting Africa's political, social and economic development and health, social care, climate change and environmental development.

Languages requirements

InterVol is a student volunteering charity in the United Kingdom that connects students with volunteering opportunities locally and overseas. InterVol supports students to develop their skills with community projects in the UK and then use those skills to support the work of charitable partners overseas on health, education, refugee support, and conservation placements. Our project placements and volunteering opportunities are designed by our local partners and with the long-term needs of beneficiaries and communities in mind. InterVol supports a network of five student societies at English universities with around one hundred volunteers annually.

InterVol is looking for new trustees to join our board. Trustees are responsible for ensuring that InterVol follows our guiding principles and acts within the law. This includes the timely submissions to the Charity Commission, ensuring that volunteering is safe and appropriate, and developing and maintaining a long-term strategy for InterVol. InterVol is a small charity with no staff, so trustees also play an important role in maintaining institutional memory for student committees which change annually. 

We are recruiting for general trustee roles and for a treasurer. For the treasurer role, we are looking for applicants with a specialism in financial management to oversee our bank account, monitor our online donation platform, make grants, donations and payments, and report on our finances annually to the Charity Commission. Trustees in non-finance roles will be allocated roles most relevant to their own experience e.g. specific university group support, specific placements, or thematic areas such as training or research.

As a trustee you are expected to take on roles including:

• Attend termly meetings (three annually, online) and annual meetings, where possible.

• Provide advice to the trustee board and our committees. This is either by email, or through the Trustees WhatsApp group.

• Work on specific projects with other trustees and advisors, e.g. managing interns, setting up new placement partnerships, and conducting/reviewing risk assessments.

• Identify potential partnerships in both the United Kingdom and overseas to forward the goals of the charity and strengthen our existing university projects.

• Attend training and network events to represent InterVol, make new connections and bring new ideas into the charity.

• Commit to 2-3 years of supporting the charity before handing over or renewing your term.

• Be based in the United Kingdom to allow travel to meetings.

You will contribute to the group to ensure that all participants feel comfortable and that the group runs smoothly.

• Enrich the cats’ experience in care including play, exercise and appropriate handling/interaction
• A willingness to complete some training in order to provide high standards of cat welfare
• Introduce cats to prospective adopters so they can find their forever home

Time expectation

Our volunteer fosterers usually spend around one and a half hours per day (around 10 to 13 hours per week) in this role, but this might vary depending on the number of cats or kittens in care.
