Our shops are at the heart of local communities raising vital funds for our fight against homelessness and bad housing - and they’re powered by our volunteers!

Suggested Involvement: It’s up to you! We have volunteers who support for one hour a week and others who volunteer more. Many people volunteer for a morning or an afternoon each week, but we’ll have a chat about your availability after you’ve applied.

Availability: The shop will be open Monday - Sunday (times tbc)

Supervised by: Community Shop Manager / Assistant Manager

Why volunteer with Shelter?

We’re passionate about what we do, and love giving second-hand clothing a chance of going to a good home. Our shop teams ensure fighting the housing emergency never felt so fun. 

What can I do?

After you’ve filled in an application, we will invite you for an informal chat to find the right role for you. Some roles involve a basic criminal record check being completed during recruitment. Having a criminal record does not mean that you cannot volunteer with us, but it may impact the ways you can get involved.

• Volunteering in the shop

Our retail volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

- You will not undergo a criminal record check for this role   

• Volunteering in a leadership role

Our volunteer supervisors help with overseeing the running of our shop and creating a fantastic environment for our customers. You may be involved with coordinating and supporting other volunteers, operating computer systems, and being a key point of contact for the shop.

Skills and Experiences Required:

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of skills and experiences. You don’t need to have volunteered or worked in a shop before as full training will be provided. What’s important to us is that you are a team player, open to learning and willing to follow Shelter’s policies and can be an excellent ambassador for Shelter. We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of bad housing or homelessness.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about increasing and representation for disabled families across society. 

What do I have to do?

Attend meetings roughly four times a year to help steer the organisation towards its goals. And using your skill set to help grow and advance our non-profit. 

Part of the fabric of Buttons & Bubbles that wherever possible people who volunteer and work with us have lived experience of disability and or illness, (including parents, carers, siblings and friends) This includes our board members.

We have an opportunity for a volunteer based in our Salisbury office to support our busy supporter care/membership team. You will help the team to ensure our members and supporters receive the highest standards of care and an excellent experience.

What you will be doing

This dynamic opportunity could involve anything from answering supporter queries and letter stuffing, to updating supporter records, filing and researching.

Location – This role is based at Plantlife Head Office in Salisbury, Wiltshire, so we are looking for a volunteer who is based in or around Salisbury. Ideally, we would prefer someone who lives in close proximity to our office.

Time commitment – We are looking for someone who can volunteer one day per week with us in our Salisbury office, aiming to give 5 hours or more (Wednesday or Thursday).

Love being out in the community and chatting to people? We are looking for friendly and engaging people with a passion for animals to help raise invaluable funds and awareness in the local area,

This is a flexible role, great if you’re not able to volunteer regularly. Most events are on weekends or bank holidays over the spring and summer.

What you’ll be doing

• Helping at Teckels events like our Spring Fair and Summer Show
• Raising awareness at local fairs and community events
• Researching opportunities and events to attend

What you’ll need

• A passion for Teckels and animals, and the enthusiasm to share this with others
• Friendly and engaging, comfortable talking to a range of people
• Willing to get stuck in and help out, with a good level of fitness

Love being out in the community and meeting new dogs? We are looking for friendly and organised volunteers to run fun dog shows at local events, helping to raise funds for our animals. 

This is a flexible role, great if you’re not able to volunteer regularly. Most events are on weekends or bank holidays over the spring and summer.

What you’ll be doing

• Working in a small team to run a fun dog show. Preparing for the event and driving to the venue in our van.
• Setting up the ring, registering dogs, judging classes and chatting to people about our work.

What you’ll need

• Comfortable being around all kinds of dogs and reading their behaviour
• Confident and engaging, able to announce to groups and talk to people individually
• Good level of fitness and mobility, happy being on your feet for long periods

Event Fundraising Volunteer

Role Description

Volunteers are incredibly important to Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity. We cannot achieve our mission without them. They help us reach a wider audience and spread our message to a more diverse group and help us raise vital funds to help communities in Greater Manchester.

Role Purpose

Fundraising Volunteers help us to deliver our portfolio of events throughout the year, across Greater Manchester. This may include helping with organising in the lead up to the event or helping at the actual event, and after. There are many different ways to volunteer with Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity.

Main Activities

Gala Dinner – every March we throw a HUGE bash for businesses in Greater Manchester, up to 400 people join us to raise funds for our work. It’s a lot of fun, but it’s also a lot of hard work and we need people to help on the night with selling raffle tickets, meeting and greeting guests, and generally ensuring the night runs smoothly.

Bus Pull – our annual Bus Pull brings together businesses and groups to pull a bus at Manchester Central to raise funds. It’s a great team building day and the element of competition always makes it a lively event. Duties may include signing in teams and ensuring they know when they are taking part, cheering on teams and generally helping the event run smoothly.

24 Hour Run – another key event on the Manchester calendar attracting over 1,000 participants to run laps of 5km around the city. We need help with signing in runners, organising the groups, cheering them on and welcoming them back and making them feel appreciated for all that they have done!

Winter Campaign – our annual Winter Campaign gains a lot of media interest locally. We are going to be growing this over the coming years with new opportunities for fundraising, this might include events, gatherings or other engagement plan.

What do we need from you?

Reliability – if you sign up as a volunteer please ensure you have the time and capacity to do so. We don’t want to add to your workload! Volunteering for Grater Manchester Mayor’s Charity should be fun and rewarding, not another thing on your ‘to do list’.

Happy to chat – our volunteers are our ‘front face’ at our events and we need to know that you are happy to do that. Of course, we will try to give you a role that takes advantage of your skills, but our events by their very nature are working with people!

Embraces a fast paced environment – events are busy places, plans change in an instant, quick thinking is needed. You will need to embrace the chaos!

Behave like a pro – whilst you are at our events or wearing our t-shirts you are #TeamGMMC, we therefore you expect you to behave in a way that does us proud, you are the front face for our brand.

What we will do for you

· Keep you fuelled – at every event we will ensure that there are appropriate refreshments available, this might not be a 3-course meal but we will do our best.

· Ask for an event debrief – we will share a form after events to ask for your feedback on what went well for you, what didn’t, we are always looking to improve how we do things. Your voice is key to this.

Say Aphasia is a charity supporting people living with aphasia—a language and
communication disability that can affect a person’s ability to speak, understand, read, or

Role Overview
We are seeking a volunteer marketing expert to help design and deliver creative
marketing strategies that strengthen our fundraising campaigns. Your expertise will help

This role is ideal for someone with experience in marketing, digital campaigns, brand
strategy, or fundraising communications who wants to apply their skills to a
meaningful cause.

The Treasurer is a key officer of the Board of Trustees, providing strategic financial leadership and oversight. The role ensures the Charity’s financial sustainability, compliance with statutory and funder requirements, and effective financial governance, enabling the organisation to deliver its mission and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Contribute to the development and oversight of the Charity’s strategy, with particular focus on financial sustainability and resource planning.
• Advise the Board on financial risks, opportunities, and the implications of strategic decisions.

Financial Oversight

• Ensure the Board receives timely, accurate, and meaningful financial information, including budgets, forecasts, management accounts, and annual accounts.
• Provide assurance that financial reporting complies with regulatory, statutory, and funder requirements.
• Oversee financial controls, policies, and procedures in line with the Charity’s scheme of delegation.
• Oversee the appointment and performance of external auditors and financial advisors.
• Work in close partnership with the Director of Finance to support effective financial management.

Assets, Reserves and Investments

• Ensure appropriate reserves and investment policies are in place and reviewed regularly.
• Monitor investment performance and advise the Board accordingly.
• Ensure the Charity’s assets and equipment are properly maintained, protected, and accounted for.

Governance and Compliance

• Ensure the Board understands and fulfils its financial duties and legal responsibilities.
• Lead regular reviews of financial policies, procedures, and the scheme of delegation.
• Chair the Finance and Governance Sub-Committee and report to the Board.

General Trustee Responsibilities

• Contribute to the Board’s strategic leadership, policy setting, and performance monitoring.
• Ensure the Charity’s resources are applied solely in pursuit of its charitable objectives.
• Safeguard the Charity’s reputation, values, and financial stability.
• Act collectively and responsibly as a Trustee, including declaring and managing conflicts of interest.
• Attend and prepare for Board and sub-committee meetings and participate in additional activities as required.

Skills and Experience

• Financial or commercial expertise sufficient to provide strategic financial oversight (professional qualification desirable but not essential).
• Experience of financial management, governance, or risk oversight.

Quilombo UK is looking for a Bid Writer (Grant & Funds), who loves to face work challenges; to join their growing team.

The Bid Writer (Grant & Funds) will play a critical role by assisting the manager to prepare the proposal that helps the organization to further develop and establish.

This role offers a great opportunity for the right person who is looking to; gain experience in the Third Sector; love to 'give back to their community'. The role is for you if you are looking for flexibility and autonomy. Where necessary specific training will also be provided to help you develop and grow your skill set.

Main Responsibilities

• Apart from writing proposals, you will also be reviewing and editing previously written content wherever necessary.
• Working with other team members to produce bid responses and writings
• Helps in writing funding applications for the varied projects that we run in order to meet our organisational objectives.
• Also helps in presentations and all supporting documentation.

General tasks

• Contribute to staff meetings and other internal meetings with views and suggestions etc.

The volunteering program with Quilombo UK requires a minimum of 16 weeks of commitment. We are looking for someone who can offer 12 hours a week, Monday - Friday (2 times a week).
