The Role: Helpline Call Taker (Family Support Volunteer)

As a Helpline Call Taker at Addiction Family Support, you will play a key role in offering emotional and practical support to individuals impacted by a loved one's addiction. You will provide a compassionate, non-judgmental listening ear, helping individuals navigate challenging circumstances.

This is a flexible role that is delivered remotely. Family Support Volunteers work within a flexible rota system to accommodate their availability and commitments while ensuring ongoing support for those who need it most.

Responsibilities:

• Offer empathetic and non-judgmental emotional support to individuals impacted by a loved one’s addiction.
• Provide relevant information, literature, and resources to help clients or group members cope with their situations.
• Offer structured emotional support adhering to guidelines and safeguarding measures.
• Maintain accurate records in line with GDPR and the charity’s policies.
• Participate in ongoing training, mentoring, and support sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge.
• Handle any potential safeguarding concerns and signpost clients to additional services when necessary.

Training and Development:

All Family Support Volunteers undergo a comprehensive three half day training programme covering addiction, core counselling skills, the 5-Step Method, bereavement, safeguarding, and self-care. Ongoing supervision, mentoring, and further development opportunities are available to support volunteers in their roles.

One of our female befriendees is especially keen to improve her English skills and would benefit greatly from a supportive volunteer who can help her build confidence through regular, friendly conversations.

What is the Talking Bubble Project?

A phone-based service that connects volunteers with individuals who may feel isolated or lonely. Through regular calls, you’ll help build friendships, brighten someone’s day, and offer emotional support — in a way that’s sensitive to their cultural and language needs.

In this case, we are looking for a Farsi-speaking volunteer with a good command of English, so conversations can be held in English while using Farsi as needed to ensure understanding and comfort.

Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) is recruiting six volunteers to sit on our new Advisory Council, which will support the work of the organisation by helping to guide our strategy and direction, develop new thinking around our grassroot activism, research, campaigning and advocacy work, and strengthen our solidarity networks, coalitions and allyships, especially with and amongst marginalised and racialised communities. 

The Advisory Council will complement our governing board (the Steering Committee). The aim is for the Council to take a broader, more long-term and strategic view of CAAT’s activities, provide fresh perspectives, and expand our networks. The Advisory Council will not have responsibility for financial, legal, or HR oversight of CAAT.

What will I be doing?

Our amazing Activity Volunteers play a key role in supporting blind children and young people to take part in a variety of activities. These range from sports, creative (singing, performing, art), audiobook club and day trips. Our activities are designed for blind young people to meet new friends, gain confidence, learn new skills/sports, and become more independent. The skills you have developed in your career and personal life will be invaluable to our young people.

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of skills and experiences. You don’t need to have volunteered or worked before as full training will be provided. Volunteering in the shop

Our Belmont Road Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

The placement will run from the 23rd February to 27th February 2026, from 10.00 - 13.00 each day. The sessions will be online via teams.

Induction to the British Red Cross: You will learn about the history of the movement, our work and fundamental principles as well as gaining First Aid skills.

Digital Media: You will learn about how to keep yourself safe online and what different annotations me in the social media world.

International Humanitarian Law: You will learn about humanitarian law and what it means in today’s society.

Choice International is a UK based not-for-profit international development organisation that seeks to address inequality issues both overseas and within the UK. About the CARAS ESOL Team:

Our ESOL team offer English language classes to adults at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling people to attend college and access other services in the future.

About the Role: 

CARAS is looking for volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistants to support our online Zoom classes on Monday mornings: 

• ESOL Entry 2+ level: 1:30am to 2:30pm (plus a 10-minute debrief) 

Please note that ESOL classes do not run during school holidays, and we follow Wandsworth Council term dates.

As a volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistant your role is flexible and varied. It will involve supporting the Adult ESOL Teacher in the delivery of online Zoom classes, as well as providing learners with one-to-one or small-group support. 

Volunteer tasks and responsibilities: 

• Providing learners with one-to-one or small group support within ESOL classes; 

• Helping learners build confidence in digital literacy; 

• Attending and contributing to volunteer debriefs after each session;

The Role

We currently have a Board of 7 Trustees that supports the Chief Executive and Leadership Team in the development and implementation of its Strategic Plan and the governance of the charity.  The Board is currently reviewing whether the current governance structure requires some development as the charity continues to grow.

The Executive Assistant to the Board is a new post to assist the smooth operation of the governance of the charity, in particular with the running of Board meetings.

Working remotely, you will assist the Chair and Chief Executive by organising hybrid and remote Board meetings, ensuring agendas are accurate and clear and distributed in a timely manner, confirming attendance, attending meetings remotely and providing summary minutes for approval.

Presently, there are 2 remote Board meetings each year, which last up to 2 hours and an away half day in London, which is a hybrid meeting.  It is likely that the number of meetings will increase to in the region of 5 a year.

You will be able to attend all these meetings remotely, although you will be encouraged to join the away half day meeting, but this will not be mandatory, and your travel and subsistence expenses will be paid.

As the Board embarks on a governance review, you will be given the opportunity to contribute your experience and thoughts to this process and assist the Chair with future Trustee recruitment.

It is envisaged that in addition to attendance of Board meetings, there will be an annual time requirement in the region of 20 to 30 hours a year, managed in your own time.

Our partner is a growing NGO working to improve access to healthcare for underserved and remote communities in Uganda. As the organisation scales its programmes and funding, it is seeking pro bono support to strengthen its finance systems, reporting, and organisational foundations, ensuring they are robust, efficient and fit for future growth.

They are looking for an experienced finance or business professional to provide remote, hands-on support over an initial three-month period. The assignment will be delivered in two phases, starting with a review of current finance systems, workflows and reporting, and supporting leadership to clarify what “good” looks like for the organisation’s future systems. The volunteer will work closely with senior leadership and the finance team, helping to improve use of their existing accounting system, strengthen budgeting and KPI reporting, and reduce pressure on senior staff through clearer processes and controls.

Key areas of support may include:

• A finance health check, reviewing current processes, controls, workflows and approval structures, with a focus on identifying opportunities to streamline and reduce the administrative burden on senior leadership.
• A review of how Odoo is currently being used, with practical recommendations to improve reporting efficiency, data quality, and usability.
• Strengthening budgeting and budget vs actual (BvA) reporting, including alignment between budgets and the chart of accounts.
• Development or refinement of a small set of core financial KPIs that support internal decision-making for leadership and programme teams.

The work will be undertaken collaboratively, with a focus on practical, proportionate recommendations that can be implemented by a small team in a low-resource context. The finance professional will lead on refining the scope and deliverables, based on the initial findings.

Profile

This role would suit a finance or business professional with experience in finance systems, ERP/accounting tools, management reporting, and organisational design. Experience working with NGOs or in international or low-resource settings would be highly valued. The ideal volunteer will enjoy working alongside teams, sharing workload as well as advice, and translating technical concepts into usable solutions.

Time commitment

The assignment will be delivered remotely, requiring approximately 2–3 hours per week over an initial three-month period, with flexibility to extend depending on progress and availability. The preferred start date is as soon as possible in January.
