About us

ORCD UK is a new charity, the British arm of ORCD, a humanitarian organisation that has worked across Afghanistan for over a decade, delivering health, food, water, and emergency support. We are in our founding phase, building the fundraising that will let us support families facing one of the world's largest humanitarian crises.

The opportunity

We are looking for a volunteer with fundraising experience to help us execute our fundraising strategy over the next few months. We have a clear plan and a set of campaigns; what we need is for someone share their know-how as we get off the ground.

This is a flexible, online role of a few hours a week, ideal for an experienced fundraiser who wants to use their skills for something meaningful without a heavy time commitment. Whether you are between roles, giving back alongside a career or simply passionate about Afghanistan, we would like to hear from you.

What you might help with

• Helping refine our fundraising campaigns (winter, orphan sponsorship, water, nutrition)

• Support in identifying and securing new funding opportunities and strategic partnerships

• Explore digital fundraising and emerging trends

• Advising on individual giving and crowdfunding/giving platforms

• Guidance on approaching trusts, foundations and institutional funders once we are registered

• Sharing best practice and helping us avoid the common pitfalls of a new charity

About you

• Experience in charity fundraising e.g. across major donors, community, trusts/foundations and/or institutional funders
• A good understanding of the humanitarian funding landscape
• Happy to work remotely and flexibly
• Collaborative and comfortable helping a small team
• A genuine interest in humanitarian work

Please note this is an advisory role. You would not be expected to write or submit funding applications, just to share your know-how and steer us in the right direction.

Hi, I’m John, the founder of The Ootsider. We are an West Lothian -based social enterprise on a mission to provide warmth, dignity, and comfort to those experiencing rough sleeping. Using a "buy one, give one" model, the profits from our premium, hand-made in Scotland outdoor robes directly fund the production of our bespoke, weather-proof, sleeping coats which we donate free to rough sleepers across the UK.

To help us scale our impact and protect more people from the harsh elements, we are looking for a superstar Volunteer Grant Writer & Fundraiser to join the team and help us secure vital funding.

What You’ll Be Doing

Working directly with me, you will:

·Research Opportunities: Scout out trusts, foundations, and corporate grants that support homelessness, social enterprise growth, and Scottish community manufacturing.

·Craft Compelling Bids: Take The Ootsider’s proven impact story and weave it into persuasive, professional funding applications.

·Manage the Pipeline: Help keep a simple calendar of upcoming deadlines so we can plan our applications effectively.

What We’re Looking For

·A Passion for the Cause: You care about tackling homelessness and believe in the power of social enterprise.

·Strong Writing Skills: You can write clearly, persuasively, and concisely to meet strict word counts.

·Independence: You are comfortable working on your own initiative, managing your 8 hours a month effectively.
