Role Overview

GHRI is seeking a detail-oriented volunteer accountant to help manage and maintain transparent financial operations. If numbers are your love language and accountability is your personality, babe… this role is screaming your name.

Highly Sprung is a physical theatre company where performances and participatory projects are produced with and for new audiences of children and young people. Working together is at the core of everything we do. Our inclusive shared approach to physical theatre creates a physical language that enables children and young people to tell stories and explore global themes, using accessible, gestural, high-energy, and often risk-taking dynamic movement. We share stories through movement that speaks of the world our children and young people will create their futures in.

Highly Sprung are looking to recruit a voluntary Honorary Treasurer, with experience of:

We welcome applications to the role of Honorary Treasurer from those of all ages and backgrounds and particularly welcome applications from those who may not have previous experience of Board roles. 

We estimate that this role will require the investment of time of approximately 1 – 2 days a month which will include, preparation for and attendance at a minimum of 3 meetings per year, plus an annual away day and additional subcommittee meetings. The Honorary Treasurer will also be required to spend time working directly with Highly Sprung Directors and preparing for Board Meetings. 

The Overall Role

·To monitor the financial administration of the charity and report to the Board at regular intervals on its state of financial health, in line with best practice, and in compliance with the constitution and legal requirements.

The main responsibilities and duties of the treasurer include:

·Oversight & presentation of budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the Board

·Leading in the Board’s duty to ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly controlled and spent, in line with good governance, legal and regulatory requirements

·Leading in the development and implementation of financial reserves & cost‐management policies

·Liaising with members of staff responsible for the financial activities of the organisation

·Chairing any finance committee in line with standing orders and terms of reference, and reporting back to the Board

·Monitoring & advising on the financial viability of the charity

·Overseeing the implementation and monitoring of specific financial controls and adherence to systems

·Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan

·Overseeing the charity’s financial risk management process

·Board‐level liaison with the external auditors (not currently applicable, but may be in the near future)

We are currently looking for a personal assistant to the charity's chair person.

Responsibilities typically include: 

· Acting as a first point of contact for enquiries: (email/calendar management and managing diaries 

· Typing, compiling, and preparing reports, presentations, and correspondence. 

· Miscellaneous tasks to support the Chair

· Forming a relationship with our clients as they are part of the community. 

Essential skills for this role are: 

· Organisation skills: The ability to prioritise tasks, manage time, and keep track of deadlines is crucial.  

· Communication skills: should be able to communicate effectively in writing. 

· Attention to detail: the ability to pick up on small details can prevent costly mistakes from occurring. 

· Problem-solving skills: the ability to identify and resolve problems quickly and efficiently.

Volunteers are an essential part of our team, making sure that clients are able to  access the right service. Our Reception Volunteer will welcome clients and visitors at our office in Deptford. You will also deal with basic enquiries (in person, over the phone or by email), assess what support clients need and help them access the right service.

Our Volunteer team is integral to the smooth running of LRMN. Without them our advisors wouldn’t be able to provide life changing support to the people who access our services. 

Our Volunteer Receptionist will be the first person that clients will talk to so it is essential that we offer a  safe, welcoming and non-judgemental space and give them the right information about the services we offer. Given the demand that we face, volunteers help us do that. 

What activities will you be involved in? 

As part of our volunteer team, you will work with staff and fellow volunteers to: 

• Welcome clients to our office and Advocacy Drop-In Service, speaking with them to understand their needs in a professional and compassionate manner
   

• Respond to queries from clients and members of the public via phone and email
   

• Support clients to complete our online referral form
   

• Help clients and referrers understand the services we offer and how to access them
   

• Respond to new referrals and upload them onto our case management system
   

• Contact clients to book appointments and follow up on referrals
   

• Take messages for staff and volunteers and ensure they are passed on promptly
   

• Log incoming mail and post outgoing mail for staff and volunteers
   

• Help gather feedback from clients to support service improvement
   

• Undertake other administrative tasks as required

As you become more experienced, you may be involved in giving basic advice, providing  support letters and other duties.

• Be provided out of pocket expenses to the value of £6 for lunch per day (if volunteering 4+ hours) &  up to £15 travel expenses (when volunteering in the office for 4+ hours) 

Is there induction and training? 

Yes, we provide a comprehensive induction to all new volunteers. This covers roles and  responsibilities, safeguarding, record keeping and use of our client management system  (Advice Pro).

You will be provided with the training needed to perform the role and will have the opportunity to join training with the whole LRMN team.

What commitment do you need to make?
