Policy Development & Compliance Volunteer

Role Description
Join Lightup Impact as a volunteer and be part of a passionate team driving real change for young people and women across East Africa — where your expertise can help strengthen the systems, governance, and sustainability of a growing grassroots movement.

What you’ll do:

• Develop and maintain a policy and user guide development plan aligned with organizational priorities.
• Review, update, and improve existing organizational policies and procedures.
• Support the creation of new policies, guidelines, and governance documents as needed.
• Ensure policies are practical, user-friendly, and aligned with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Work closely with leadership and team members to identify policy gaps and organizational needs.
• Support the development of simple user guides and implementation tools to facilitate policy adoption.

As we transition from successful pilots to commercial scale, we are looking for a strategic CFO who can help build the financial foundations required for sustainable growth and successful fundraising.

The Opportunity

This is not a traditional finance role. We are looking for a strategic partner who can shape BioBright's growth trajectory by developing a capital strategy that enables rapid customer adoption, scalable operations, and long-term shareholder value.
The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO to ensure every financing decision accelerates commercial growth while maximising capital efficiency.

Key Deliverables

1. Build a Scalable Financial Strategy

Timeline: First 60 days

• Develop a robust three-year financial model.
• Define commercial KPIs and unit economics.
• Build customer acquisition and revenue forecasting models.
• Create scenario planning for conservative, expected, and high-growth outcomes.

Impact
Provide the financial framework required to scale confidently while maintaining financial discipline.

2. Develop the Capital Strategy

Timeline: First 90 days

• Determine the optimal size of the next funding round.
• Recommend the timing of future fundraising activities.
• Model expected cash runway under different growth scenarios.
• Produce dilution and ownership models across multiple investment rounds.
• Develop valuation assumptions linked to commercial milestones.

Enable BioBright to raise the right amount of capital at the right time while protecting shareholder value.

3. Improve Investor Readiness

Timeline: Months 2–6

• Build investor-grade financial models.
• Prepare fundraising metrics and Board reporting.
• Support due diligence and investor discussions.

4. Drive Capital Efficiency

Who You Are

You have experience leading finance within high-growth technology or deep-tech businesses and understand the unique challenges of scaling venture-backed companies. You are comfortable advising founders, communicating with investors, and balancing ambitious growth with disciplined capital management.
Most importantly, you enjoy working alongside founders to transform innovative technology into commercially successful businesses.

About The Stray Cat Charity (TSCC)

The Stray Cat Charity is a newly established UK-registered CIO working to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome stray cats in Greece, starting in Patras. Our current priority campaign is to raise £35,000 to build a dedicated stray cat shelter in Patras, Greece, which will provide safe housing, veterinary care, and a pathway to adoption for vulnerable cats. As a growing new charity, we are building our fundraising and outreach network across the UK.

Role Purpose

We are looking for a motivated volunteer to support the growth of our charity by helping identify and connect with potential supporters in their local area. This includes community groups, schools, corporates, and potential major donors who may be interested in supporting or fundraising for stray cats in Greece. The aim of this role is to help generate awareness, build relationships, and support fundraising activity for our current and future campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

The volunteer may support with:

• Researching local community groups, schools, faith groups, and businesses
• Identifying potential corporate partners and supporters in their region
• Contacting organisations to introduce The Stray Cat Charity and its mission
• Encouraging groups to support the charity through donations or fundraising

Chair of Trustees - The Family Place Foundation

We are recruiting a new Chair of Trustees to lead our Board and support the next stage of our charity’s development.

Location: Remote, with occasional in‑person trustee meetings (typically once or twice a year) held in the Clyro/Herefordshire area.

Time commitment: Approximately 1–2 days per month. This includes six trustee meetings a year, occasional ad‑hoc discussions and light‑touch support between meetings (for example reviewing policies or responding to emails).

Remuneration: Voluntary role (reasonable expenses reimbursed)

We raise funds to provide support to adopted, fostered and kinship care children and their families to improve emotional wellbeing, strengthen relationships, and reduce the impact of early trauma. In collaboration with leading UK practitioners, we support the delivery of a range of services providing essential therapeutic care and family support that isn’t covered by statutory funding. Services offered include Family Activity Days, Specialist Clinical Workshops, Advisory Consultations and Family Respite Camps. We also work to raise awareness of the challenges faced by children who cannot live with their birth families. We are now seeking a Chair of Trustees to help guide the charity through its next stage of development, including shaping our emerging Family Foundations project, a significant new early‑years initiative for the charity, alongside our ongoing portfolio of funded projects delivered through our specialist partner. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated Board and a small operational support team who care deeply about the families we serve and the long‑term sustainability of the organisation.

The charity is currently led by a Board of four trustees, supported by two part‑time operational staff and a small group of volunteers.

As Chair, you will provide leadership to the Board, ensure effective governance, and help the charity continue enabling the delivery of high‑quality, trauma‑informed support. You will work closely with the trustees and operational colleagues to help shape strategy, strengthen partnerships, and ensure the charity remains compliant, resilient, and focused on its mission. You will also play a key role in strengthening the charity’s governance and fundraising, which in turn enables the therapeutic delivery carried out by our specialist partner. 

A supportive handover will be provided to ensure a smooth and confident transition into the role.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who brings:

• Warmth, clarity and good judgement, with a balanced, proportionate approach to governance.

• A genuine commitment to improving the lives of adopted, fostered and kinship care children and an understanding of the challenges faced by families affected by early trauma.

• Confidence in chairing discussions, helping the Board reach clear, well‑considered decisions.

• An understanding of good governance, including risk, safeguarding and compliance (or a willingness to learn).

• The ability to work collaboratively with trustees and our small operational support team, offering encouragement and constructive challenge while supporting the charity’s governance and fundraising role, which enables the specialist delivery work carried out by our partner.

• Strategic thinking, with the ability to help shape the charity’s direction and ensure long‑term sustainability.

• Reliability, integrity and a calm, steady approach, keeping the charity’s purpose at the centre of decision‑making.

• Meets the eligibility requirements to serve as a charity trustee, as set out by the Charity Commission.

Helpful but not essential:

• Experience of chairing a board or committee

• Experience in charity governance, education, social care, therapeutic work, or community leadership would be helpful, but we are open to a wide range of backgrounds.

• Lived or professional experience related to adoption, fostering, trauma or family support.
