Support the work of St John Ambulance in your community by volunteering as a Community Volunteer, an exciting new role which is designed to revamp how volunteering looks in the modern world; flexible, innovative and is open for all.

We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient. Community Volunteers can choose from a wide selection of activities – including fundraising, talks and demonstrations, supporting at events, volunteer welfare, social media and administration support.

Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives.

Give as much (or little) time as you can afford. With this new role, you simply volunteer when it works for you. That means you can give as much time as you like or as little as 24 hours across a whole year, whenever it suits you. It’s perfect for busy lives, changing schedules, or for anyone seeking a low-commitment involvement.

Once we have completed your selection and screening for this role, we will provide you with an induction, as well as invite you to any necessary training sessions. Role

We are looking for passionate and committed people who have a genuine desire to help us achieve our mission.

Trustee responsibilities are wide and varied and include:

• Ensuring the charity is compliant with relevant legislation and is adequately resourced
• Contributing actively by giving strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and evaluating performance
• Ensuring the effective and efficient management and administration of the charity
• Ensuring the financial stability of the charity and proper investment of the charity’s funds
• Using any specific knowledge or experience you have to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions

Trustees are required to:

• Attend up to four board meetings a year
• Attend our annual Away Day and represent the charity at external events
• Act as an ambassador for Suffolk Mind
• Attend and participate in training as and when required.

No specific qualifications are required but you should have relevant expertise or experience which will enable you to make a positive contribution to the work of the Board.

Face to Face 2 Day intensive training course plus online learning modules

We are looking for volunteers to monitor nestboxes at Nagshead in Spring and Summer

This role will involve monitoring nest boxes between April and July. You will identify nests, check them weekly and follow chicks through to fledging, recording your findings as you go. You will be working with one other person, and ladder climbing is involved.

You will need to be able to commit to checking your route on the same (or close to) day each week. You can choose which day of the week you carry out the nest box check. As this role involves working with another person, you might want to take it on with a family member or friend. You each need to apply and then let us know that you want to work together. If you don’t have someone to volunteer with, this isn’t a problem as we can pair you up with someone.

It can take between 2-3 hours to complete your route. As the nest boxes are situated in a woodland the terrain can be uneven and hilly.

We will offer full training for the role, including identifying birds and nests, and health and safety training in the safe use of ladders/working at heights.

Skills required for this role:

• Good wildlife identification and knowledge of wildlife, OR the willingness to increase your identification skills

• Safe working, ability to follow safe working procedures

• Teamwork or pair work

• Care and sensitivity around wildlife

• Ability to clearly record information and findings

• Good physical fitness is needed, as climbing ladders and uneven terrain is involved

• Ability to navigate using a route map to locate nest boxes.

This is a really rewarding role and offers volunteers a chance to develop hands on experience and skills around surveying. The role also offers an opportunity to be out in nature and benefit your own health and wellbeing. It will suit someone who enjoys being outdoors.

What is Trafford Centre Foundation:

Trafford Centre Foundation (TCF) is in the process of being set up and will be a registered charity, supporting charitable causes across the Greater Manchester region. The Foundation is independent of  Trafford Centre and governed by a board of trustees who decide which good causes will receive support. Our Trustees act in the Foundation’s best interests, applying donations to advance charitable purposes.

The Foundation will fund a wide range of charitable purposes (subject to the law of England and Wales). Independent Visitor: Mentor a young person for 2 – 4 hours per month for at least 1 year.

An Independent Visitor is usually an adult volunteer who befriends a young person in care and develops a long-term friendship with them. This often involves helping young people develop new interests, skills and hobbies or going on outings such as going to the cinema, bowling or just walking in the park.
The aim is to provide support, confidence, and fun experiences outside of the young person’s daily environment. If you are looking for a rewarding role with an organisation that makes a difference in young people’s lives, we want to hear from you.

About the role:
•Visit a young person monthly and become a trusted adult friend to them.
•Build a trusting, consistent and positive relationship with the child.
•Provide a child with the opportunity to try new activities (e.g., cinema, bowling, museums, nature walks, or simply having a chat) and spend time with them away from their placement. 
•Provide visit reports and feedback after visits to help us monitor and improve the service.

• supporting with cat admissions and matching cats with prospective owners
• ordering, collecting and delivering cat-related supplies, for example, food, litter, medical supplies
• communicating with the public, offering support with cat ownership or lost and found cats
• supporting the volunteer neutering team

Time expectation

Our Cat Welfare Support volunteers typically volunteer for two to four hours per week. This role is flexible and can fit around your other commitments.

Volunteers would be expected to attend regular network training evenings, on line training and specific face to face training for the role. Once trained for the role would be expected to assist at First Aid, PR and fundraising events.

Candidates will need to be available to attend an all day Selection event that will be held on Saturday 28th February 2026 at the St John Ambulance Headquarters in Aylesbury.

Following the selection event, successful candidates will need to attend a Welcome event on Saturday 14th March in Aylesbury. On line training plus face to face classroom training.
