Book Aid International is the UK’s leading international book donation and library support charity. Every year we work with our partners to provide over one million brand-new books worldwide.

We are looking for volunteers to support our small, friendly warehouse team in Swindon.

If you’d like to make a hands-on contribution to sharing the power of books worldwide, and you have a few hours a week you can offer on a regular basis, we’d love to hear from you.

The role includes assisting in preparing book shipments by selecting titles accurately from a provided pick list and using handheld scanners.

You will contribute to the overall safety of the working environment by following health and safety practices, and contribute to a positive team environment.

You must be able to stand for extended periods and perform light lifting duties, including handling and placing individual books.

You must be over 18.

NICOLA Arts is an artist-led charity and community space based in London, supporting young creatives, artists and local communities through art, culture and social projects. We are looking for volunteers to support our shop and community space, helping with daily activities, customer service, visual displays and the organisation of events, exhibitions and creative workshops. This is an ongoing volunteering opportunity with flexible shifts, ideal for students, creatives and anyone interested in gaining hands-on experience in an arts and community-led environment. Our Community Volunteers will work alongside our County Representatives to support our Fundraising Team by being the public face of Combat Stress in their local county, and will help build support from individuals and groups by raising awareness and funds. Income generation is key to our continued success and the support of volunteers enables us to raise more funds to support former servicemen and women, so that when a veteran is having a tough time, we’re there to help tackle the past and to help them take on the future.

• Updating and advising others on income received, expenditure and available funds
• Managing and monitoring donations made to the group
• Following financial procedures e.g. Gift Aid returns and VAT claims

Time expectation

Our current volunteer treasurers usually spend between 2 to 4 hours per week in this role. More hours may be required at certain times, such as towards the end of the financial year but support is always available.

Join FARA, a charity with over 30 years of experience and 39 charity shops across London. Our Clapham Books store is looking for a dedicated Book Volunteer to assist us on Friday.

By volunteering with us, you'll not only support our charitable work but also contribute to creating a positive experience for our community of customers. You'll also play a key role in ensuring that items FARA cannot sell are responsibly redirected, helping us further our commitment to a sustainable economy.

The Role:

As a volunteer, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

• Sorting book donations
• Pricing books
• Assisting with the placement of books on shelves
• Identifying valuable and collectable books
• Creating engaging book displays
• Greeting and assisting customers
• Till operations

The Volunteer:

We’re looking for someone who:

• Has a genuine passion for books (and perhaps belongs to a book club)
• Is friendly, approachable, and enthusiastic
• Previous experience working with books is a plus, but not essential
• Ideally connected with the local area

We are seeking two new Trustees with experience of senior organisational leadership ideally within the UK charity sector, with oversight of operations, finance, HR, and strategic development to join our Board of Trustees. This is  an exciting time in our development, when these functions are becoming more critical for us, as Board personnel changes. We are keen to appoint talented individuals who are as passionate as we are about public education, popularising critical thought, and addressing urgent questions of race and inequality in culture and society. Most importantly we need people who are willing to share their business, financial and operational skills and expertise with our Board and senior staff.

Inspired by the life and work of the eminent scholar and intellectual Professor Stuart Hall, the Stuart Hall Foundation (SHF) was launched in 2015 by his family, friends and colleagues to continue his life’s work and build on his unique and distinct legacy by attending to the urgent political, social, and cultural questions of our time. Our mission is to popularise critical thought by supporting the creative and intellectual development of a new generation of artists, academics and activists who are dedicated to challenging issues of inequality through their work. We pursue this mission by equipping underrepresented practitioners with the learning resources and research opportunities necessary to shape and expand public debates on politics, history and culture. We fulfil our mission by:

• Creating opportunities - offering artist residencies, commissions, scholarships, fellowships, and other opportunities to underrepresented people from a variety of backgrounds, disciplines, and geographic locations.

Duties:

Person Specification

Essential:

1.  Enthusiasm for Professor Stuart Hall’s legacy and commitment to the Foundation’s mission and aims.
2. Senior organisational leadership experience with the ability to apply strategic judgement to complex organisational, financial and people-related issues at Board level.
3. Understanding the political context and operating environment of the charity sector and demonstrate the ability to think strategically and entrepreneurially within it.
4.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent listening skills and the ability to communicate with diplomacy, tact and sensitivity.

Hopscotch Women's Centre is seeking a new Chair of Trustees at an important and exciting moment in our journey.

We are a values-led organisation working at the intersection of violence against women and girls, gender justice and equity, and we are now looking for an experienced and dynamic Chair to support our next phase of development.

This role would suit someone who has previous experience as a Chair, or substantial senior governance leadership, and who is confident in providing strategic oversight, strong governance, and supportive challenge. The incoming Chair will line-manage a first-time CEO and work alongside a Board that includes several first-time Trustees—all of whom are deeply committed, passionate, and motivated to learn and lead well.

We are particularly keen to hear from individuals who:

• Bring a strong intersectional feminist lens to governance and leadership
• Understand the realities of trauma-informed practice within the VAWG sector
• Have lived experience of minoritisation and can bring this insight meaningfully into Board leadership
• Are attuned to the current political, funding and policy climate affecting specialist women’s organisations
• Lead with empathy, clarity and confidence, and enjoy supporting others to grow into their roles

• supporting with cat admissions and matching cats with prospective owners

Our Cat Welfare Support volunteers typically volunteer for two to four hours per week. This role is flexible and can fit around your other commitments.
