Lead the Board that will shape the future of Urban Youth

The Role: Volunteer Chair of the Board of Trustees

We’re looking for a forward‑thinking, people‑centred leader who can bring clarity, confidence, and momentum to Urban Youth. You’ll set the tone for our governance, support the early development of the charity, and help us build a Board that is strong, inclusive, and rooted in our mission.

• Leading the recruitment of our brand‑new Board of Trustees (all roles except Treasurer)

• Providing strategic leadership as we establish Urban Youth as a London charity

• Supporting the Founder and CEO as we shape our vision, culture, and long‑term direction

• Ensuring good governance, accountability, and a positive, collaborative Board culture

• Acting as an ambassador for Urban Youth — building relationships, confidence, and momentum

• Guiding the Board to make decisions that centre young people and community impact

Help shape the future of specialist education for young people with vision impairment and complex needs.
At InFocus, we believe everyone deserves to live life to the full, with choice, control, and meaningful opportunities. We support young people who face significant barriers due to vision impairment combined with additional disabilities, helping each individual follow their own pathway towards independence and fulfilment.

We’re now looking for a Volunteer Trustee with strong experience in special education to help guide and strengthen our specialist FE College.

What the role involves

In addition to the standard responsibilities of a trustee, you will:

• Focus on the delivery and development of post-16 education for learners with vision impairment and complex needs

• Scrutinise the quality of teaching and learning

• Provide constructive challenge and professional insight as part of our Education Advisory Committee

• Work closely with our College Principal to champion high-quality, person-centred education

This opportunity would suit someone with experience as:

• A senior leader within a SEND provision

• A headteacher or principal

• A SEND improvement partner

• An Ofsted inspector

Our Board meets seven times a year, with optional invitations to events and celebrations. Trustees are encouraged to attend in person, though online attendance is possible where needed. Travel expenses are covered, and overnight accommodation can be arranged for trustees living outside Devon.

St John Ambulance is seeking an inspiring leader to take on the role of County Commissioner for Norfolk. This pivotal volunteer position is responsible for leading St John’s work across Cheshire, driving community engagement, and supporting volunteers to deliver life-saving services. As County Commissioner, you will: Lead and motivate local teams to achieve St John’s strategic goals. Build strong partnerships with community organisations and stakeholders. Oversee safe and effective delivery of first aid, youth programmes, and fundraising activities. Time commitment: 5–8 hours per week (flexible arrangements available). Tenure: Three-year term. In this role, you'll support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of health citizens. Youth Helpers also help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be, as well as supervise and support other adult volunteers in their team.

You’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time.

Pursuing the role

Expected to undergo a DBS check & e-learning modules. To progress to a Youth Leader, a candidate would be expected to undergo Safeguarding Level 2, Fundamentals, Principles and First Aid for Youth Leaders. They may also wish to undergo Day Warrant training, but these aren't a requirement.
