Volunteering in our shops offers a variety of exciting tasks. From sorting, steaming, and pricing donations to spotting hidden gems, you'll roll up your sleeves in the backroom and assist on the shop floor. Engaging with customers is key, whether you're serving with a smile, working the till or helping donors complete Gift Aid forms.

No special skills are needed as we’ll show you what to do, and we provide all the training you’ll need. 

Spectra is a Community Interest Company (CIC), working to improve the choices, health and well-being of structurally excluded communities across London; particularly in relation to their sexual health, emotional resilience and well-being, and to combat isolation and minimise risk.

Under the steer of its Chief Executive and Board of Directors, Spectra’s outstanding staff team provide supportive, knowledgeable, non-judgemental services, which are all peer-led, meaning they are delivered by people with lived experience. Spectra strives to proactively identify the needs of all its service users and support them appropriately and effectively.

We are now seeking a suitably experienced and committed individual to join our Board as a Director of the CIC, and are particularly looking for someone with financial management and budgetary experience, particularly from a voluntary or statutory sector background.

You will provide strategic direction for the organisation on financial management, including helping to shape and support our ongoing financial strategy. You will support Spectra’s delivery of statutory and grant-funded services; help us in advancing our vision and provide constructive scrutiny and oversight of the Chief Executive and the work of Spectra’s staff.

Spectra is based in Vauxhall, South London. It is expected that you will attend five meetings (currently online on a Monday evening) and one SMT/Board Away Day each year (currently in person). In addition, it is envisaged that you will contribute your expertise outside Board meetings on occasion, e.g., to review service or planning reports, to participate in a focus group, etc.

About the REMAP:

Since 1964, REMAP has helped thousands of people each year overcome everyday challenges through innovative, bespoke solutions. When standard commercial products are not suitable, REMAP volunteers design and make one-off equipment tailored to a person’s individual needs. Our work is delivered through more than 65 volunteer-run branches across the UK and is completely free of charge for the people we support.

About the role:

REMAP is looking for Volunteer Makers who can use practical, technical or creative skills to design and make bespoke equipment for disabled people. Previous REMAP solutions designed by our volunteers have included adapted handles, specialist supports, modified furniture, access aids and other one-off items designed around a person’s individual needs. We are looking for volunteers: 

• With skills or experience in engineering, carpentry, DIY, product design, electronics, metalwork, plastics, workshop practice or practical problem-solving.
• With access to own tools or workshop .
• Who live in the area of your local Branch and have access to transport.
• Who are able to listen carefully, work safely, think creatively and treat people with dignity and respect
• With an understanding of risk management and who can follow set policies and procedures

What will you be doing:

You will take on practical cases that match your skills and availability. This may include meeting clients, speaking with families or therapists, understanding a practical challenge, and designing or making a safe solution using materials such as wood, metal, plastic or electronics.

Your volunteering and solutions will help disabled people overcome everyday barriers and enjoy greater independence, confidence and choice. Many REMAP projects are modest in size but life-changing in impact for the person receiving them.

This is a voluntary role. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

As a Macmillan Information & Advice Hub Volunteer, you’ll get a chance to meet new people and be part of an amazing team of Volunteers. It is really important to us that we provide the practical and emotional assistance required to our clients and that's why both Macmillan and ourselves will give you the support, supervision, volunteer insurance, and training required for the role.

The Hub is a drop in facility aimed at giving advice to local residents living with cancer, their friends and family or even fellow professionals. You will be providing face-to-face assistance which will include giving out high quality Macmillan advice resources or signposting to other service (all with the support of an employed Co-ordinator). You will also be providing emotional support by showing empathy, actively listening, and providing encouragement and reassurance. The Hub is based in Hastings Town Centre (the old Town Hall) and you could volunteer for as little as half a day.

A bit about this role

As a charity we can continue to help cats and kittens in need thanks to the donations we receive at fundraising events from generous members of the public. Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!
