If you care deeply about protecting people, promoting good practice and helping a charity operate responsibly — this role is a perfect fit.
Why We Need You
SUNSHINE is expanding into its next chapter, launching programmes, recruiting volunteers and building community spaces across London. To do this safely and responsibly, we need someone who can help us:
Maintain strong safeguarding practice.
Ensure legal compliance.
Promote safe, inclusive and ethical operations.
Support volunteers with clarity and confidence.
Embed good practice across the charity.
You’ll be the steady, reassuring presence who helps SUNSHINE stay safe, structured and aligned with UK good practice.
What You’ll Do
As Safeguarding & Compliance Lead, you will:
Oversee safeguarding good practice across SUNSHINE.
Support compliance with UK GDPR and data protection.
Promote safe health & safety practice.
Help embed Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) principles.
Maintain and update policies and procedures.
Provide guidance to volunteers and team leads.
Respond to occasional urgent queries or concerns.
Help ensure SUNSHINE operates ethically, safely and responsibly.
You’ll be joining a charity where kindness is a superpower, community is everything, and every volunteer helps bring SUNSHINE into people’s lives.
Who We’re Looking For
You’ll thrive in this role if you are:
Calm, structured and detail‑focused.
Confident with safeguarding, compliance or governance.
Able to interpret and apply good practice guidance.
Comfortable supporting volunteers with clarity and reassurance.
Passionate about protecting people and promoting safe spaces.
Inspired by SUNSHINE’s mission of positivity, human connection, community and belonging.
Experience in safeguarding, compliance, governance or risk is helpful — but heart, integrity and clarity matter most.
Time Commitment & Availability
This is a flexible operational volunteer role, not a trustee position.
Around 4 hours per month
Additional hours only for urgent enquiries or concerns
We’ll work around your life and schedule — we simply need someone reliable who can help keep SUNSHINE safe and compliant.
What You’ll Gain
The chance to shape a safe, ethical, community-powered charity.
A joyful, supportive team culture.
Real impact on people experiencing loneliness.
New skills, confidence and experience.
The satisfaction of protecting volunteers and participants.
The joy of helping SUNSHINE shine safely.
Ready to Help Us Keep SUNSHINE Safe?
If you’re passionate about safeguarding, compliance and helping a charity operate responsibly — we’d love to hear from you.
Join the SUNSHINE movement.
Help us bring connection, community and belonging to London — safely and ethically.

Volunteer Reading Coordinator
The Coordinator is the first point of contact for those who want to learn to read. Using a simple assessment, the Coordinator will explain to a potential new ‘Reader’ how Read Easy may be able to help them. The Coordinator pairs up new Coaches with those who want to learn to read and provides ongoing support to these reading pairs. They visit reading sessions occasionally and maintain support through regular calls with both Reader and Coach to check all is going well, calling on the group’s Literacy Specialist to respond to any literacy related difficulties a pair may be having.
Being a Read Easy Coordinator is very flexible. You decide how much time you have to offer, and this will determine the number of reading pairs you look after. The role provides lots of variety, is home-based and can work well around other commitments.
How we will support you:
You will be provided with the Coordinator Handbook, training, induction, policies, resources and guidance specifically needed for this role, including access to support from a Read Easy UK Regional Adviser. In addition, the Coordinator Supporter will meet with you regularly to provide support and find out how your Reading Pairs are getting on. You will be invited to Read Easy UK’s volunteer forums and National Conference which gives volunteers an opportunity for networking with those from other groups.
What you will be doing:
● Help interview new Coaches when recruited and shortlisted by the Volunteer Recruiter.
● Enrol and assess new Readers, using the simple resources provided.
● Match Readers with Coaches, make introductions, and help them organise their reading sessions (which will take place in an approved venue or online).
● Visit your reading pairs to provide encouragement, presenting certificates on occasion.
● Work collaboratively with any other Coordinators in the group.
● Contribute to Coach meetings where volunteers discuss their experiences and receive further support. (Run by the Management Team typically every 8 weeks.)
● Attend Management Team meetings when invited, typically every 6-8 weeks either in person or remotely.
● Record progress of your reading pairs using resources provided, sharing these with the Management Team to keep them fully informed and submit expenses for payment regularly.
The skills you will need:
● A passion for supporting others achieve either their reading or coaching goals;
● A willingness to become familiar with the methods of the phonics based Turning Pages coaching manuals, so that you can confidently guide others;
● Good communication and people skills, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality. Strong organisational, time management and record keeping skills;
● Self-awareness, personal responsibility and a professional approach;
● Reasonable confidence in using IT(accessing documents, completing electronic forms and records, email, Teams/Zoom meetings);
● The ability to use initiative and willingness to work independently and as part of a team;
● A willingness to abide by Read Easy policies and procedures;
● An open attitude that encourages two-way communication and willingness to ask for support from the Management Team; ● A non-judgemental attitude and respect for others, with a commitment to equality and diversity, so that you can make everyone feel valued and included;

Join the Board of Bristol Historic Buildings Trust - help fund the restoration of a Bristol landmark
Bristol Historic Buildings Trust (BHBT) is seeking a new Trustee with fundraising experience to help us bring Ashton Court Mansion back to life.
Ashton Court Mansion is a Grade I listed manor house with origins in the 14th century, set within an 850-acre estate on the edge of Bristol. Around three quarters of the building remains derelict. We are working with Bristol City Council to take a 125-year lease and regenerate the Mansion as a living civic place where heritage, creativity and public life meet.
We are already in the building under a tenancy at will, have refurbished the first rooms and begun taking event bookings. We are converting to a Charitable Community Benefit Society and preparing to launch a Community Share Offer shortly. Beyond that sits the long-term restoration itself - a phased, grant-led programme of significant scale, requiring a sustained major grants pipeline and a matching campaign alongside it.
Our vision is a building that works as a place of celebration, incubation and education, programmed around five areas: food, culture and arts, skills, nature and outdoors, and heritage.
We need a trustee with significant fundraising experience, who can help achieve our vision for ACM and who can help the Board build the capability to do it repeatedly.
What we are looking for (some, not all, of the following)
•Experience of major capital fundraising, ideally in heritage, culture or the built environment
•A track record with major grant funders - National Lottery Heritage Fund, Arts Council England, Historic England, trusts and foundations
•Major gifts and high-net-worth donor cultivation
•Corporate partnerships and business sponsorship
•Individual giving, regular giving and membership schemes
•Experience shaping a compelling case for support and holding an organisation to a fundraising strategy and pipeline
What the role involves
•Bringing fundraising challenge and expertise to Board discussions, and helping set realistic targets
•Supporting the development of our grant pipeline, major donor strategy and supporter programmes
•Opening doors where you can, and representing the Trust to funders and supporters
•4 quarterly board meetings per year (March, June, September, December), approx. 2 hours each
•An annual strategy day
•Additional involvement as your skills allow - fundraising, stakeholder meetings, representing the charity at events
•Terms of up to 3 years (renewable)
•The role is unremunerated; reasonable expenses are reimbursed
About us
We are committed to a Board that reflects the community we serve and the wider Bristol community, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
Our mission: to restore and operate Ashton Court Mansion through a mixed-use model combining conservation, community programming and commercial activity, sustained by a diversified income base of earned income, grants, donations and community investment.
How to apply
If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you. Informal conversations welcome before applying.
Send a brief statement of suitability (up to 250 words) and your CV by 31st August
